I love her version of this song and came back to it today after hearing Hank Williams "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain". As beautiful & with the same longing

My mother taught me this song in China in the 1960s, a song that she learned in China in the 1930s. This beautiful song always reminds me of my dear mother. I would listen to it when I miss my dear mother.

Lovely voice and lovely interpretation of a beautiful ballad- thanx to Ms Tubb for the singing, and to the poster for sharing it.

I used to play this song on the organ as a kid. Haven't thought of it in 35 years, til a friend said they were going to name a dog Gloaming.

My grandfather's personal history records that his mother used to sing him this song when he was a child (in the late 19th Century) -- Thanks for allowing me to hear what he must have heard as a child . . .

"The Story" did an amazing job recording this, with eerily beautiful harmonies and a bit slower. Amazing, can find on youtube or amazon...

Jonatha Brooke does a version of this song on Angel in the House. Totally dark harmonies. Almost as if A Perfect Circle and Alice in Chains did it. It's the best I've ever heard.

Wow, I found this song through an article while researching my ancestory. The song is about my 2nd great grand uncle Dr. Miles Walton Goldsby, Jr. However, they never maried because her family moved away from Marion while Miles had gone North to war. He was a physican in the Confederate States and died in 1865. The article was written by Vernon Louviere entitled "Her of "In the Gloaming".

Would you have a link to the article by Vernon Louviere? That would be fascinating to read!

Wonderful singing, good piano playing--but what on earth was Evelyn Tubb doing singing with such an out-of-tune piano?
