17 was the perfect example of the power of positive thinking Rick. You almost convince yourself you're going to have a bad round at times. I'd love to see you go round without doubting yourself. I'm convinced you'd shoot a low score

But that’s the problem isn’t it? Many of us could play much better if we had the right mindset …. And if we knew how to achieve this mental state we’d be millionaire sports psychologists!
When I stand on the tee my main thought is “don’t make a complete di*k of yourself in front of people”. I suspect this isn’t helpful! 😂 If I had Rick’s ability I’d like to think I’d be supremely confident but it doesn’t work that way does it.

And that’s what we all have to remember. Sometimes getting in our own heads is what kills us. I just played two rounds this weekend, the first an 84, the next a 79. Both rounds I was +7 through 13. The first round I just got ahead of myself, though about the next holes instead of the one I was on, and I finished like crap. Pissed away a great score on a tough track. The next round, not as tough of a course, granted, I knew that I was in the exact same place with 5 to go. All I told myself was. This is your time. That was then. This is now. It worked great.

Best thing I learned from Grant Horvat’s channel is the power of positive thinking. He got upset that he missed his eagle putt by a few inches, but came back with “a nice little tap in birdie on the last hole, let’s see if we can do it again!” And stayed cool and confident the whole time.

Rick, I'd be interested to see how next season of break 75 would play out if you brought on a sports psychologist. You've clearly got the physical talent to play well. To me so much of what affects your game is between your ears.
I get the every day golfer can't bring on a psychologist, but perhaps some of the techniques you work through could help a lot of your viewers navigate a golf course themselves.

It would be an interesting video as well to see the process of that. Similar to when Rick played with the tour caddie and assisted through the shot process - that was one of his best rounds! Just backing up the confidence and changing the perspective could be huge for the game. I would love to see that video from a 10 handicapper here.

I agree that Rick's attitude could use some work, and ability to be more resilient on the course. Everyone hits bad shots, and you need to be able to get past it and hit the next one the best you can in the moment in order to play consistently (even it consistently does not mean great golf).
Mainly he could use some short game lessons as that is the part of his game that lets him down and puts pressure on the long game to perform. It becomes a house of cards quickly if 1 part of the game doesn't go as planned on the day.

    Rick,
The reason the channel is my favorite is you’re the most honest golf UA-camr out there. You don’t shy away from posting “bad” videos or showing that the game can beat even pga pros down. It’s just as informative and inspirational to watch this break 75 series as it is to watch your instructional videos or the club reviews. This has been some of my favorite content you’ve ever produced. Keep plugging away! We, the long time fans, love it. I hope next year you can do a USA break 75 tour at some of the classic courses here. Whether it be here in Florida, Pinehurst, Myrtle Beach, the classic courses in California like pebble, or Riviera. Bethpage black, winged foot or shinnecock. The holy grail of Augusta… can’t wait to see what comes next!

Hi Rick, first I just want to say I’m a big fan of your channel and love your break 75 series. Recently I even dreamed about it and in that state of semi consciousness between sleep and waking up I had idea for a new twist on this series.
In the past you have done episodes of break 90,85,80. Well how about you take a golfer who shoots on avg somewhere over 90 and you play a number of holes with him/ her and see if you can give them instructions/ tips so they can break 90. You could play 3 or 4 holes with them or if you enjoy it then even more, the same with break 85 and 80.
PS. I’m an ex Pat living in Santa Cruz CA, so if you fancy doing an episode over here then you can help me break 85. Cheers

Even though you had a tough day on the course, I think we all can relate 100% to how that feels, Rick! The fact that you had a hole in one on that par 3 in the past, executed the shot to incredible near perfection to do it again, then missed the birdie putt is just a testament to the difficulty of the game and just how crazy it is!!! A few months ago I was striking the ball the best I ever have in my life through several rounds and decided to make a range trip to work on a few things. Halfway through my bucket at the range, I was so incredibly embarrassed how horrifically bad I was swinging and striking the ball, I just ended up giving the rest to the young man next to me. Everyone hits bad shots at times, but that day my body and mind seemed to forget how to hit a golf shot completely! Such a strange experience days like that can be and what an unbelievable negative impact it has to your confidence.

kinda want to see the next episode with rick playing with a caddie. He would probably feel more comfortable with his yardages and only focus on his strike. Great video keep up the grind!!

One of those days Rick. Typified by the good drive on 18 landing in the bunker and the bunker shot hitting a sprinkler head 🤦. Taking the positives out of the round, the tee shot on 17 👏. As you said the amazing benefits of a positive mind set. Onwards and upwards Rick 🙌

Rick, for you and your fans.. Play golf without saying AND THINKING anything negative about ANY shot or put. 2.39M people love your channel. You've allowed negativity to creep into your content and its tough to watch. You are an inspiration for millions, including me. Keep your chin up, your thoughts high and play YOUR game (however it goes) with positivity, acceptance even though you are striving to be better. This allow will take 3 strokes off your final score. Mentally, golf can destroy you (if you let it). Fight to stay even keeled. I've been playing golf for one year and a few days now and initially, your strong mindset helped me tons. Bring back that Rick.

Can totally understand the frustration and negative vibes, as so relatable how I often feel on the golf course, like I’m playing with a bag of snakes! Rick, on the podcast would be good to hear what mental tricks you use when those negative voices are in the head. Loved this one btw!

Now you Rick….love you mate….but 100% think you would benefit from DECADE manage expectations, mental scorecard and working on discipline then you’ll be able to call yourself a better golfer than Guy 😎
    Keep up the good work

I played one of the worst rounds this year on Wednesday. The way you explained how you were feeling at the start is exactly how I felt. I hit high 70s to mid 80s and had a round of 100. Just couldn’t get anything to go right. Love these videos and I hope they continue as they push me to try and break 80.

You really are the best UA-camr out there. I know you struggled but your realness is so refreshing. I bought a new set of clubs, I was so excited, and I played like it was my first round ever. It was horrible. I was playing break 125 I think. It was that bad.

For anyone interested, there's something of a secret sale going on over at PXG... I've just picked up an 0211, 22° Hybrid for £99. Massive price drop because it's last year's model. Rick reviewed (and liked) the driver from this range. Worth a look? Thank me later.

What a game golf is. Played 3 times this week and went 74, 87, 82. It’s so relatable to see how everyone no matter the skill level struggles with this impossibly brilliant game. No matter what I could watch you play anytime. The videos just entertain to no end.

That was a tough watch, Rick. Not because you were playing badly, but because of all the sighing, "poor me" posturing and negativity throughout. You're a pro, so you should act like one. You score badly because your short game and your wedge game are poor. Why not do some intensive work on those two elements? That's what a true pro would do. Even in this round you had plenty of chances to get up and down for par. Had you done it five more times from close to the green you'd have shot 75. You're not far off, but you need a reset in approach.

I think the only thing stopping Rick breaking course records is the mental game. See him losing his head quite a lot and we all know how that affects our game when we play. Master your mind and you’ll be golden! Absolutely love the content though it’s absolutely brilliant
