If the reactions and tracking numbers are as they are, I think the film might just be in some trouble. My guess is the money is coming from the two leads mostly. I’ll be rooting for the movie to be good and to at least see profitability. There’s another thing I can’t stop considering too. While I don’t know how Piece By Piece will perform, I think there’s the slightest chance that that, Terrifier, and My Hero can take some of Joker’s attention away the very next weekend. They may be niche, but I think it’s totally possible given Art the Clown’s surging popularity now and My Hero’s manga having also recently concluded and the current ongoing season. I just hope all these movies do (and are) good.
Personally, as a casual nerd, I'm not interested in the 2019 sob-story Joker movie series and I doubt a $200 will entice me to see it. That being said, I won't deny the fact the first made a billion and as such, the sequel will almost certainly do well by simply being associated with the first movie's mainstream success. Brand recognition and herd mentality type stuff
Looking at those early ticket sales for Joker: Folie à Deux, that $200,000,000 budget was probably a big mistake. I was looking at several of the Thursday and Friday showings of the film, and not a single ticket was sold in about half of them. We’re still two weeks away from release, but this could end up being a huge bomb. I’ve seen the trailers for this sequel in the theater a lot, and I couldn’t tell you what the actual story of the movie is. That’s coming from someone who goes to the theater all the time and is on the internet movie space, so imagine what the average person actually knows about this film. Marketing starts with product development, and when the marketing isn’t building lots of excitement, then the product most likely doesn’t meet the need. That’s fine for an independent film, but not at all for a project that cost hundreds of millions of dollars to make and market.
Budget would have been just fine until they decided to make it a musical. That cut the originals gross in half. That’s about what i expect those to make
Even if that was the case, I'd say good. Pay Phoenix his dues. His life got screwed when his brother, River died during his megastardom in strange circumstances. Joaquin is living up to his last name for his brother
If this is a question for Sean, his all time favorite composer is John Williams and his runner-up is James Horner. He likes the scores from the late 70’s to the early 00’s significantly more than the film scores of today, which is why those two gentlemen are his favorites.
The funny thing is that Martin Scorsese actually directed a musical with Robert DeNiro and Liza Minnelli, and I think it’s vastly underrated. So Joker 2 is right up my alley
The 2019 Joker series is good. Idk if it needs $200 million HOWEVER I do love IMAX scenes so if it's shot entirely using IMAX cameras then that's awesome. But generally, leave those budgets for blockbusters that warrant a trip to the cinema.
David Zaslav: I’m gonna shelve two mid-budget IP movies to cut costs and get a tax write off. Also David Zaslav: I’m going to put $200M to a Joker sequel. I also think this is gonna possibly do good numbers internationally to where it could be like a Fast X where it doesn’t do great domestically, but does well enough internationally to not make it the biggest failure ever.
@@ku222104 A ridiculous budget over at Warner Bros. Discovery isn’t exclusive to Joker: Folie à Deux. Bong Joon-ho’s Mickey 17 has a budget of $150,000,000 and Paul Thomas Anderson’s The Battle of Baktan Cross has a budget of $115,000,000+. Doesn’t seem financially smart.
I really hope you make another video covering Inside Out 2 and it’s massive success. It’s now become the highest grossing animated movie of all time and surpassed The Lion King (2019) It’s also now become the 8th highest grossing movie of all time. I still can’t get over that, it’s ludicrous! Massive success for Pixar! I saw it four times at my local theater, it was a phenomenal masterpiece and is definitely one of my favorite Pixar movies of all time.
That was earned, but if he already made one, there’s no reason to keep making them. Other movies need attention too. Clearly, Inside Out 2 has already been given attention and then some.
@@mugen9147 True I understand totally. He has made a good amount of videos discussing about the success with Inside Out 2, but I would like just one last video talking about Inside Out 2 and the massive success it’s had. I really enjoyed the first Joker. Don’t care about a follow up, especially after the mixed reviews. Even if they were great I probably wouldn’t see it.
Most likely, the musical aspect is going to make it flop. No adult will tell another adult you should check out this new musical. Thus removing word of mouth. Plus, people were really hoping to see some action in this movie. The last one got away with it because it was an origin story. Plus besides the plot twist no one saw coming a lot of people found the movie was a bit boring.
Nah it’ll make enough money, but the controversial reputation of it means it likely won’t pass the original unless the mainstream appeal skyrockets upon release

It shouldn't exist. Should've let the 1st one stand in rarified air. I'm concerned Phillips was pressured to do something he didn't want to do so he purposefully made a movie nobody wanted out of spite.
Exactly. Joker 2019 made such a ludicrous amount of money from its tiny budget that it wouldn't matter if the sequel bombed, even if it lost a gross $1 billion which isn't happening.
1- I read Todd Phillips is denying that the budget was 200 million 2- This movie will be saved by overseas box office. Just like the first one that made 70% of its box office overseas.

Morricone, Williams, Zimmer, Goldsmith.
