00:00 Hello Everyone!
The 2022 FTX Crypto Cup sees Magnus Carlsen, Alireza Firouzja, Levon Aronian, Anish Giri, Jan-Krzysztof Duda, Liem Le, Hans Niemann and Praggnanandhaa gather in the Eden Roc Miami Beach Hotel in Miami, Florida for the 2nd Major on the $1.6 million Meltwater Champions Chess Tour. $210,000 and a $100,000 Bitcoin bonus is at stake in the 7-round all-play-all tournament. Each match consists of 4 rapid games on the chess24 Playzone, with the winner earning $7,500 (3 points). If the match is tied there's a blitz tiebreak, with 2 blitz games followed, if needed, by a single Armageddon game. The winner earns $5,000 (2 points) and the loser $2,500 (1).
For each rapid game the players have 15 minutes for all their moves, with a 10-second increment after each move. For blitz games it's 5 minutes and a 3-second increment, while for the Armageddon game White has 5 minutes to Black's 4, but a draw counts as a win for Black. No draw offers are allowed before move 40. Official website: chess24.com/tour

Legend states that Magnus saw 72. gxh6 when he played a3 as his first move.

😂😂
😂😃😃
Magnus out here doing side-quests🤣
😂
Best comment 😂😂😂
Honestly, the biggest surprise for me was, after a3, I didn’t hear “And it was here after move 2 that we have a completely new game”.
That's because Carlsen is beginning to have a nice database of games played after 1.a3 x)
New game at move 5, 2:00
that's because you do not follow chess otherwise you wouldn't have put yourself in a stuper
Adolf Andersson played it against Morphy
😅
I still can't get over with Hans "*****g Ridiculous" yesterday and "Chess speaks for itself" today🤣🤣
sorry guys.
magnus 🤫
#9LX speaks for itself. chess does not speak for itself.
Animes Lovers United magnus is bullying
Magnus has indicated that he wants to start playing more like Bobby Fischer by breaking opening theory and just playing pure OTB style chess. Nice to see that he's doing just that.
Thanks
Rapid chess hits that sweet spot of expert god like gameplay and amateur openings so as to create winning chances instead of just drawing.
"chess speaks for itself?" Now you see what happened when the REAL chess speaks for itself, Niemann.
"...face the sad reality of being on an endgame against Magnus Carlsen being down a pawn..." The fear of every chess player.
Hans "chess speaks for itself" must've struck a nerve with Magnus. Three servings of humble pie coming up! 🤣
"look at this spectacular party happening at the D file"
It feels like Magnus has reached Fischer levels of being so strong that he has become bored and just wants to experiment and try weird stuff.
I think for both Fisher and Magnus it's about taking their opponents out of their known comfort zone.
What is Fischer level bro,Magnus is 5 times world champion,if he didnt refuse to take part in world champ he could won even many more world champ title.Currently no one is looking who can stop him. There are lot many good players in the world but againt magnus in classical chess all look hapless against him.
Fischer was genius in his era and one of the best in the world of all time but so is the Magnus.
@@ManishSharma-ri2hs I think it's impossible to compare players of the engine era against others, I wouldn't be so sure that Magnus would have been better than Morphy, Capablanca or Fisher and other greats from the past if he would have lived at the same time as them
@@antoniomonaco6882 lol. with those kind of memory, creativity, and solid calculation, Magnus would have easily destroy them all without engine. Even Fischer run from Karpov because he knew that he had no chance against new generation. And we haven't yet talk about Kasparov😅😂
@@aadika45 most GMs have stated publicly that Fischer would probably win against Karpov, GMs much smarter than us. Aronian, Kasparov, and many others etc. I’ll trust them over you.
Here we see proof that 1.a3 is the best opening. Literally unbeatable.
Also further proof of why I'll never be a grand master. Random pawn moves forward: "Ahhh....here Magnus has chosen to open with the Frenchman's Cumsock."
Yes, when the great Magnus plays it.
@ca5 Until he faces Jan-Krzysztof "The Streakbreaker" Duda :D

You come in ready to perry all fancy techniques from rapier. Yet, the match starts with Magnus raining axe at you. You quickly grab your pieces and throw them back. That's when you accidentally throw your queen out of the game. What a party this is.
Did an AI type this summary?
Tf
Magnus' whimsy never ceases to entertain me.
"Kg2 what is even happening here?"
Hans: beats Magnus
Magnus: God Mode *ON*
Magness mode: ENGAGED
Magnus typed the secret code in the console command.
Ur kinda sus
Amazing games, thanks for keeping us followed, Agad!
a3 only because Magnus want to have fun. And Magnus is that strong, that he can save every "strange" opening.
He probably was pissed for the game 1 loss and wanted to make a statement.
@@Arko9858 exactly
@@Arko9858 I agree. Hans probably thought he showed Magnus how it is done with his first game win, so Magnus said, "Okay, I'll destroy you using French Defense as black, and a3 as white. He is just reminding the youngster who he is playing.
Magnus deffinately trolled Hans after his pompous remarks from the first game. The sad thing is even after the match he thought he outplayed him in most games. He isn't strong enough to relilize how bad he got beat.
Its because Anish knows there is always a perpetual to calculate…
The real problem with engine evaluations is that they might play some weired move that will be relevant like 15 top eninge moves later, and sometimes that only line is the reason why the enginge prefers one side over the other. Now some of them can be spotted in a classical game, but in rapid or faster time formats in general they cant. (I mean not just the move, but the reason why it is good)
The last time I was this early -- while winning, Anish Giri was playing for a Draw.
So no "sorry about that" for this match today
6:38, all the pieces on the d file... White's pieces (R B Kt) are on white squares and Black's pieces (R B Kt) are on black squares. Very pretty.
Yeah it's perfectly symmetrical
I'll give Niemann credit for playing his part in a game that produced this
instead of playing just for the win, Magnus is playing with style, he's a real entertainer
Not only is he the best, I agree - very entertaining. He is creating, not grinding.
Magnus is like Michael Jordan when the oponent player challenged MJ he simply destroyed him, that is what MC did to Niemman.
When you're so early, even all the resolutions are not even available 😎
Hey sorry I'm late.. I heard there was a party on the D File!
magnoose wanted to show the kid the dark side of chess
Edit: #Suggestion
6:30
There's a Tal game where eight pieces are on one file, but I don't think you've covered that one though.
Edit: The game is Mikhail Tal Vs Andreas Voremaas, Baltic's Chess Club(1971)
Spoiler:
There is a nice Queen sacrifice😏
Being the tactician he was, Tal was never afraid of weird positions with tactics looming.
@Talphazero What game is that please buddy? Would love to see it

@@jx_g I love a good Tal game and this one sounds spectacular as ever.
Magnus after the loss, "listen here you little shit.."
Once again, Carlsen shows Hans how futile the endgame was.
Magnus seems to be able to play any subpar opening, take the opponent out of book preparation, and then
beat them over the board.
Magnus goes Ultra Instinct in the endgame. I enjoy watching the GM's play more than ever trying to be good at chess myself.
Magnus endgame skill is on a different level.
6:27, in the midst of war, I'm glad a few pieces could set aside their differences and have a party on the d file. 🤣
The only good thing about playing an end game against Magnus is you were good enough to get to that point. After that " GOOD LUCK "
Minor detail here but I love your channel for putting useful information in the description. Made it easier to know who played the games, the moves, when it is played, what tournament is it played, the ratings and all. Sets you apart from other UA-camrs really. By far, I think is the reason why this channel is going strong.
10:16 After "I've had it with *your Nf4+ and Bc5+* , let's go for it", I just lost it :D
When I heard agad mentioning that Magnus has had it with the bishop and knight checks and captures with a rook around 10:22. Pure wholesome moment
even I had it with that coward's delay by checks
Niemann throwing out his queen with Magnus's King still trying to stroll out to the centre, defies all logic.. That was the beginning of the end sadly...
It speaks to Niemann's arrogance...
Thank you very much! Very interesting game and analysis!
And it is already as of move one that we have a completely new game
Nothing better than a wall of confidence to support your offensive. Magnus ticks like a Rolex.

Three Magnus vids in one day by Agad?? BLESSED!!!
Niemann exchange queens in such position really big blunder for a gm
Sad reality of facing Magnus in an endgame with a pawn down...well said
Yes! I've quoted this in a slightly different way, but the outcome is the same ... :-)
Magnus vs Nepo in the championship had many pieces in the same file too.
is invaluable that you show us their minds is such a nice way
@11.49 Agad, why not rook capturing white pawn at h4 and open up black for checks?
Wow. I just started chess and I have trouble against a level 3 computer that seems to deliberately make mistakes in the middle game. Carlson's setup is just so weird compared to anything I've done that I can't make sense of it.
Party on the D-file! Woo!
Universal Order is restored with Magnus dominating the end game and grinding Niemann down, (despite Magnus’ unconventional opening moves …. ). Great commentary, thanks Agadmator.
This reminds me of the recent match against danya with the sodium attack. Magnus in the opening is always worse, but the opponents do not have the good moves to punish it, and once the dust settles, you are basically lost. I guess only super GMs probably those in top 10 can continue the advantage in the opening to defeat magnus.
Give Hans or Danya those positions against Magnus when they don't it's him and they'd probably annihilate him. Magnus is a brillian player...maybe the best ever...but the aura does just as much work as his skill. People always fear the champ and try to survive rather than seriously fight like it's against any filthy casual
@@talphazero1036 Hahaha no. Magnus always known for his weakness in the opening that's why he always try to derive from the main lines in the past, but still managed to conquer chess by his mid-endgame mastery. And here you think danya/hans can crush magnus with opening advantages if they're playing seriously? They're not even super GM yet.
Wonderful game 🎯 by Magnus
that Anish quote reminded me of the meme that says "the chances of winning the lottery is 50%, you either win or you dont" LOL
We see those positions all the time. White goes on an attack, sacrifices a piece, and is indeed technically winning, but if he makes one incorrect move along the way, the material loss means loss of the game.
What side would you rather play? The side that wins with perfect play, or the side that just needs to wait for one suboptimal move?
These mid- and endgames in the past few videos were so immensely complex and fast, my head is spinning as I try to keep up! So many things are being set up in these theoretical lines, the best moves work not only based on threats to win material, solid defense and space, it seems like long-term positional advantages and tempo play a much greater role these days, as they are even harder to calculate. Is my assumption correct? I'd love to get some feedback here.
no shut up
It's one of the effects of the engines. Theory now runs so deep into the match that endgames are more important than ever before, and so very early positioning for them is a higher priority than it was.
@@kenoliver8913 Thanks for your response, so just to be absolutely clear, as a result of deeper preparation, long-term positonal play and tempi have become relatively more important than they were, correct?
@@schwindsichtigaderechte5293 yep. It's a matter of a shift in emphasis rather than radical change.
@@kenoliver8913 Thanks!
Rule Question: at the hypothetical line 9:24 would it be allowed to capture on f4 with the King, due to the pin, as this square is not really „covered“?
No. Still moving into check, it doesn't matter that the knight is pinned.
Did Niemann explain post-match why the hell he went for queen trade?
"Chess speaks for itself"
Magnus was trolling Hans.
This game kind of shows how little respect Magnus had for Hans. He essentially plays a bong cloud opening, and proceeds to destroy Hans over the board. Keep in mind that this is less than a month before Hans beat Magnus, and the fiasco started.
Magnus changes the meta and now players are starting to prepare against 1.a3 and 1.h3
And f3 🤣
Giri is right in that you are drawn or someone is winning. Centipawns do not exist. They are just a reflection of an engine's inability to see the position through to the win.
@Niemann, hey mann, chess speaks for itself.
"How many moves does it take to have really strong grandmasters come up with a new game?"
"Five."
Fischer came up with a new move on move three of the King's Gambit (3... d6).
If white opens with a3 (and this pawn plays no role in the first moves like in this game) black can play as white, but "just" has to mirror the board in his head (left to right), but not an easy exercise I guess
This was Magnus speaking in the super GM language.
6:34 That is indeed some good shit happening right there
1. a3 and this is why Magnus doesn't want to play in the super-serious WCC. He just wants to horse around and have fun.
Very good game.. A very human game. Magnus is truly a champion 💥
Rubinstein vs Levitsky, Breslau,1912 also had 6 pieces on the d file, including queens though. 😁, It could be 8 pieces on the d file according to Schelcther analysis.
Pls antonio what do you always go down to fix...if it's the speakers,I can't tell a difference before and after
It must be a total mindf*** when playing Carlsen and he uses an opening like A3, and you know the whole chess world will be talking about your game for the next couple days, no matter the result.
The king is back
Clearly Magnus wanted to send a message to Hans. He won the first game against him and that was something that Magnus sportively accepted but inside he was seriously triggered. After winning the second match in a mostly safe way, the third had to be not only a win but a message delivery.
Reason for A3, to express his dominance…! That’s funny!
Please make the video of pragg vs Anish 4th game of ftx crpto
"What is even happening here?" LOL
🤣
The level speaks for itself
Carlsen's chess level is just insane ...
Good grief, MC just toyed with him..total destruction.
Magnus literally trolling GMs, what a madlad.
Magnus is end game GOAT
Me , queen , rook and three pawns. Magnus has king and one pawn. I might as well resign.
6:27
Spectacular Party happening on the D-File. 😀
"Magnus playing some very weird chess here" - agad
LOL
6:30 There was one game on the Magnus vs Nepo world championship match when they had eight pieces all on the same file. One of the two central files. Can't remember which file or which game.
Also Gelfand-Anand (Game 2 , WC 2012) 8 pieces on the d file after 9 moves
I think it’s funny how people never learn that as long as there is a queen there is a chance.
He plays more and more like an engine that wants to have fun lol. I feel like he might even give up the title to take it back just for fun.
1.a3! Magnus is playing with his food, he got tired of just eating it
Chess speaks for itself
7:24 why can bishop take the pawn on H2????
Is this Magnus just saying "I'll just move this here so you go first!"
Magnus took it personal. 😂 great games by Niemann anyway
Whenever Magnus desperately wants to win against someone , he throws his repertoire out of the window!
"Even though engine prefers black, it doesn't really mean anything."
At this point i believe Magnus can play any opening as he like
Hans Moke Saltymann has a bright future.
