  • Hello,
    As we are awaiting the release of the new Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450, which we believe is essentially the "Scram" version of the new Himalayan 450, but with a few more differences than the Scram 411 was to the Himalayan 411, I really wanted to get out on the Scram 411 so I would have something to compare the new bike to (when we get to ride it).
    I didn't really gel with the Himalayan 411, so what would I think about the Scram ? Please watch to find out.
    Many thanks to Roger and Carl at Crewe Motorcycle Centre, for letting me take this showroom prepared used bike, out for a ride.
    Thanks for watching.

    I loved the demo ride I had on the 411 Scram, luckily I was able to take it off-road in SE Oregon. What a blast! If I had the room for one I’d have it.
    The old school simplicity is the thing that will be lost with the 450. I think the 411 Scram will go down as one of the bikes I SHOULD have bought.

      I hear what you are saying, but the 450 is such a leap forward in my humble opinion. I couldn’t get on with the Himi 411, but was blown away with the Himi 450. I am hoping the Guerrilla is a bit lower and lighter, can’t wait to try it out 😃 Cheers

    I totally get how you feel about the Scram and the Himalayan. The Scram has a smaller front wheel than the Himmy; that will make quite a big difference to the riding experience. It would be a bad job if we all liked the same thing Ian.
    I haven’t ridden a Scram; as far as I know the front wheel is the only difference that might alter the ride characteristics.
    The 411’s are quite rough till they get a few miles and then it smooths out nicely.
    The J series engine is much more refined than a 411 and in my humble opinion is a better power plant.
    Enjoyed the ride and banter; as always. It’s good you give your personal experience and feelings of each bike you ride; great stuff.
    Thanks bud, ride safe.

      Thanks Neil, I do like to be honest, even though it might gain me some criticism….hey ho 😂. Someone on the Royal Enfield Farcebook group has put up another fresh photo of the Guerrilla 450……omg 😍 I really can’t wait for that. I am hoping it’s as good to ride as the Himi 450, but easier to get both my feet flat on the floor 🤞Had a nightmare couple of weeks, hopefully back on track soon 👍

      Ann falling poorly like that must have been a worry and then your dad too; that’s a lot bad stuff on your mind.
      I hope Ann is feeling better and on the road to recovery. Please give her our love.
      Listen; don’t feel bad about offending people. Anyone that is offended by the fact that your not keen on 411 Himalayan’s then BE OFFENDED. You haven’t slagged it off in any way; you have given an honest evaluation on how that bike makes you feel; is all.
      The Himalayan has a 21 inch front wheel and I think the Scram has a 19 inch front wheel. I’m presuming the 450’s will be the same; as the Scran/Gorilla are road oriented bikes.
      Your doing good bud; say it as you see/feel; don’t change, be honest.
      Ride safe

    The Scram in my opinion is much better than the Himalayan 411 so much so I've got one, brilliant for daily use, the 19" front wheel, and the different ecu mapping completely changes the bike. 😊

    I have owned a Scram for the last 2 years. It has been my only form of transport, commuting around 20 miles per day, through city traffic. It has been amongst the best commuter bikes that I have owned (35 years riding, 30+ bikes). Costs me between £5-£7 per week to run. Lack of power isn't noticeable for city use. It will cope with motorways but it isn't ideal. Although I have commuted 70 miles per day on a 250cc in the past.
    The fuel gauge is rubbish! Shows low fuel with 7 litres left in!
    I came to this bike from an 1100 Shadow, so the seat height seemed towering to me when I first got it!? Don't notice it now.
    All in all, I am very pleased with the Scram. I am intending to buy a second bike in the near future, for fun and touring but I am not planning to get rid of the Scram. As an all weather commuter, it is hard to beat imo.

    • @ianhughesroyalenfield
      @ianhughesroyalenfield  25 днів тому

      Definitely a good commuter, and ok in the twisties on the lanes, so it’s a win win, but not one for me. Cheers

      @Bordpie 21 день тому

      I just passed my CBT a month ago. My motorbike is my only (personal) form of transport currently. I was looking at the RE scram 411 as my first "big" bike, to use for commuting and whatever but I believe RE will be releasing a new version of the scram himalayan engine with a slightly increased engine bore size to 440cc (not the 450cc water cooled Sherpa engine) probably around January next year. That would probably put it around 28hp which is in line with the Harley Davidson x440 (designed for the Indian market). Supposedly RE are working on a 650 Scrambler as well.

    • @ianhughesroyalenfield
      @ianhughesroyalenfield  21 день тому

      @Bordpie RE have a lot of things going on, plus there are a lot of rumours out there. Trying to sort the wheat from the chaff can be a nightmare 😉. What we do know is that, is that in the early hours of tomorrow (17th July), they will reveal the Guerrilla 450, now that would make a cracking first big bike, unless of course you want to remain a traditionalist 😎.

    Fair play. It seems that it is straightforward to make good progress on that 411. I have only seen the Himalayan variant which was well put together at 'Mounts' of Swansea. They were impressed with the build quality of all of the Royal Enfields which are selling well.

    Carl tried to sell me that very bike!
    I have the 411 Himalayan and I think it's brilliant for the use I'm putting it to and is very customisable to adapt to your particular needs. The Himalayan seat also pushes you forward onto the tank, I had mine rebuilt by SAS autotrim which overcomes this and provides more height and comfort for my long legs! I prefer the instrumentation on the Himmy over the Scram.
    The new 450 is really a different animal to the 411 and I'm not sure I'd rush to change to one just yet as I have really bonded with the 411.
    Best wishes to your wife for a speedy recovery.

    I love the bike too, the one thing that is stopping me to take one of the few last ones in my local RE dealer is the lack of central stand. Maybe stand from a Himmy will fit probably. On bike with chain and spoke tubed wheel is a must ... And the front wheel is 19" instead of the 21" on the Himmy .. The new guerrilla is with 17" front

    • @ianhughesroyalenfield
      @ianhughesroyalenfield  16 днів тому

      Yes, agree. Very odd that RE decided not to fit a centre stand to the Scram. The new Guerrilla has 17” front and rear’s, not the “Scram” type I was thinking of, but I was just trying to imagine what it might be, without knowing 😂. Having seen the Guerrilla, I can’t wait to get on one, and will as soon as they are released. Cheers

      Morning Mal, I think we are on the same wavelength here. From what I have read (a lot), it could be priced less than the Triumph 400 X, and it will need to be. I had a thought last night, what if RE bring out two versions of the Guerrilla ? Like the baby Triumph. Now that would be an option 🤔, exciting stuff. Ann ok thanks, came out of hospital with a cold, so a bit miserable for her at the moment. We will have to return for more tests etc, to try and find the cause. Personally, I feel the 411is a better design as the 450... I like the tank, seatcover and side panels of the 450 but combined it does not look like a good match. Could be the frame and side panel shape is an afterthought? the 411 shape looks more matched with the frame.
    And the 450 reminds me of a more rounded Vitpillen tank.
    Owning a Guzzi Griso and a classic350 I am amazed you think the gearbox of the 411 is even better LOL! I was shocked already on the classic engine.

    Usual good video Ian, thanks. Has it been confirmed by RE that the 450 Gorilla is a replacement for the Scram. I've seen a few reports (both Indian and UK) that says the updated Scram model is having a revamped 411 engine that will take it to 440cc?🤔 I quite like the outgoing Scram and particularly at the new bargain prices they are being sold at with over a grand knocked off the price, cheap bike for someone.
    The outgoing Himalayan is also selling like hot cakes and moreso than the new model. I must admit personally, I'm not a fan of the new one, it's lost its charm, character and the RE DNA, take the badges off and it could any adventure style bike, too generic but each to their own. Hope Anne gets better soon, all the best to both of you.👍

    • @ianhughesroyalenfield
      @ianhughesroyalenfield  23 дні тому +1

      Thanks Jonathan. I too have heard/read that the 411 Scram is to get an engine size increase, time will tell. Maybe I should have worded it differently, but I meant that the Guerrilla is a “Scram” version of the Himi 450, not necessarily to replace the existing Scram, lord knows if that makes any more sense 🤔😂, this was a prime example of trying to concentrate on the road, and controlling the drivel which exits my mouth 🙄😂. I like the way that RE are still providing bikes for traditional fans, as well as offering more up to date motorcycles, though I hope they don’t think that they can compete with the big boys, as they can’t ! They have to be careful, as the Chinese bikes are gaining momentum, especially CF Moto, which is one of their main competitors against the Himi 450, with many saying it’s a better bike. Roger, at Crewe Motorcycle Centre, has bought a load of the Himi 411’s as demand is still there for them. Thanks for the well wishes. I am just working on a video, where I attempt to explain what’s been happening with us. The first part of the ride is ok, but I forgot to plug the bloody mic in to the camera on the return, so relying on zoom audio. Really don’t know how it’s going to turn out, or whether to just scrap the second half 🙄. My mind is fuddled at the moment. Cheers
