  • ►The light bulbs and electrical connections within BMW's taillights and headlights are separate from the light housings. They instead sit in the bulb carrier, a piece known for its propensity to fail. Replacing the bulb carrier on your BMW F30 is likely a guarantee if you own the car for some time, so we're here to help you fix it. A damaged bulb carrier will prevent one or all of the lights from working in one of your taillights, so there isn't much of a process to find the root cause.
    Once you have your new carrier and plug, you'll need only a few tools to complete the job. It can be a bit nerve-wracking, considering you're cutting wires, but luckily, we know how to do it. Follow along with Gareth Foley, FCP Euro's BMW Guru, as he takes you through a BMW F30 taillight bulb carrier replacement.

    Thanks for your videos and your replacement parts, especially the connector repair kit. My local garage quote me $800 CAD for this fix. Now I know they are incompetent and/or ripping me off because the parts cost only $50. Edit: I finally got around to doing this DIY fix for my X1 2016 and it worked exactly as this video showed. The bulb carrier just looked a bit different but the corrosion issue and the fix by replacing parts and connector worked 100%.

    I've replaced mine 2 times already and just ordered another last week from your guys but never replaced the wire holder. Hopefully this fixes it for good. Thanks!

    Thank you for this option. This is a regular problem with these cars. I Have a 2013 and had to do it in 2019 and 2023. Works on and off so I had to change. Both sides had the issue

    BMW E9X had defects in the rear tail light bulb carrier too....but you access it via a felt panel. That is a hella lot of work for a brake light bulb. So BMW didn't fix it in the F3X....and made it worst. Great DIY for a complex wiring task.

    is there a way to replace the metal rods in the ground terminal on the bulb side. the rod in the 3rd position seems to have been completely burnt off

    I just finished this repair and the crimping and inserting of the wires was way more difficult than I expected.

    • @TheChannel1978
      @TheChannel1978 5 місяців тому

      It was a bit fiddly but doable. The screenshots in the video of the crimped connector and the hint to listen for the click when the connector slides into the terminal were important hints for me.

    I replaced the housing and the wires with new bulbs but i still have no left turn in the rear. Brake light works. Does the module go bad or need a reset? Pass side works fine.

    Need a deep dive on LED bulb replacement options for the BMW F2X and F3X platforms. I bought some LED bulbs and they didn't fit in the bulb carrier.

    My car’s situation is worse, the connector housing is not coming off, so I just took the clips off. I couldn’t fully take it apart as the metal part on the bulb housing has melted and attached itself onto the tail light housing! How much will this cost me to have it fixed?

    I'm having problems with the running lights on the right side it's off . Would this fix the problem? The connector does seem melted or something. The break lights work and turning signals though.its for the bmw F30 328i 2016

    What is the correct part number for the plug?

  • @nycshelbygt500

    I did the BMW F30 bulb carrier swap. The plug was't fried, so I didn't need to do that, but had the parts at the ready. The bulb carrier didn't include a free pair of new bulbs, so I has some new SYLVANIA - 7506 SilverStar bulbs ready. It might be enough to just swap the plug, if the pin is melted. Just swap the wires from the old damaged plug to the new plug, without cutting wires.
    That darn gasket...The old gasket stayed in the taillight housing, and the bulb carrier has a new gasket. So with a double thick gasket, it would not snap back together. HaHa. That rubber piece that covers the two 10mm nuts, it is not obvious how it fits. Look at the other tail light.

    And if it still doesnt work, what else could it be? I replaced the bulbs, the socket, and the wire plug and my tail lamp still does not work. My break and signal lights do work but not the regular lamp tail light. Any ideas?

    Question: I just bought a 2013 F30 and my driver side break light doesn’t work. The turn signal works just fine, and the tail light lights up, but not the brake light. I have replaced the wires. I even removed the passenger’s side and plugged it to the driver side to test it and it still has the same issue. Would anyone be able to help?

    Is it necessary to disconnect the battery before working on the wires? If so, what is the safest way to do this?

    • @fcpeuro
      @fcpeuro  Рік тому +2

      Hi Dan, it certainly will not hurt to do so; you just need to disconnect the ground and make sure it does not contact the battery again during your repair.

    LEDs should fix this problem permanently. If the issue is too much current draw, and generally heat related issues.

      Maybe try using a freight forwarding company that gives you a European or US address, which then forwards the shipment to you. It may not exist for SA or it may, it's a common problem you have. I'm in Canada and needed a service like that to get shipments fro the US, and it's the same continent.
