The Kirk v Seder debate is legit one of the best political debates I’ve seen and was the thing that really turned me on to Sam. Sam used actual in depth policy knowledge to expose Kirk as the empty husk he is. Kirk obviously only has surface level talking points and will ALWAYS try to pivot towards them, as evidenced by him being incredibly broad and vague about the “hundreds of regulations” Trump repealed, of which Kirk couldn’t name or identify the function of one. Everything always boils down to “liberals and regulation bad, conservatives and deregulation good.” Even when holding such a binary position leads to obvious inconsistency, he will NEVER concede an inch that regulation can do good (unless of course when he’s engaging in doublethink about big tech). The fact that Sam actually knew what he was talking about was able to cut through the mindless buzzwords Kirk was spouting and made him look like a fool.

He was referencing Charlie's debate with Hasan who got a collar mic, but Charlie kept pulling his handheld mic up close so he could increase his volume. "DOUBLED the deficit", "it used to be called Stock Manipulation" things like that. Words that help get the specifics of WHY you're mad across. Also not mentioning your opponent as much, when you show anger that is directed at arguments and backed by facts rather than like whining that your opponent did something it comes across as something to be genuinely angry about. We use coal in carbon and steel products too so jobs will fall then level out after we stop burning it for power.

Automation and strip mining killed coal jobs, not regulations. They ain't coming back, no matter what we do. I say this as a third generation WV union member who did mine for a little time, before I wised up and got into tree trimming instead. It's more dangerous, but because of accidents. Not guaranteed illnesses from doing it as a career (besides the usual physical stress illnesses inherent in all hard labor)

as a former finance major, i cannot tell you how much stock buybacks bother me. it really is just a mechanism through which the executives and shareholders can artificially inflate their stock prices for their own benefit.
this is the problem with fucking market capitalism, dude: its so fucking short-sighted. the ceo who jacks the stock price up just wants to look good for that fiscal quarter, that fiscal year. the next year has to be better than the last one, no matter what kind of fuckery you have to pull to make it that way.

I had a phone for years before I had to replace it, it seemed as though it had randomly acting up (leading to the replacement). Pressing the screen would open apps or type multiple letters (some of which were not near the letter pressed), voice command stopped working effectively. It got me suspicious of real quick. I would not be surprised if planned obsolescence happens with phones.

Apple is notorious for this. Their batteries are designed to deteriorate and in some of their phones you cant replace the battery so the whole phone has to be replaced

Didn't Texas's electrical grid fail miserably and cause death from freezing temperatures in 2021? All of it due to deregulation. Texans experienced enormous energy bills at the time too.

I’m glad Sam spoke about Kansas and Sam Brownback. He ruined our state and we’re still dealing with the repercussions of his fiscal disaster.

    • @ladyofrillwater

Not to mention that Brownback VETO'D EXPANDED MEDICAID.
Insane. I work at a hospital and help patients who can't afford medication sign up for programs that get them medication for free. These are old folks. The amount of hoops they have to jump though to get medication they need to LIVE is insane.
And the amount of times I've gotten a referral to help someone with Medicaid applications and its like.... this person is paycheck to paycheck but they're not 65 and over, not legally disabled, not a parent. They don't qualify. Having no money isn't enough to qualify for help.
Insane. Brownback damn near ruined Kansas and now we're still desperately trying to claw back. Kelly is STILL trying to get expanded Medicaid, and these fucks are like "no one cares about Medicaid" when THE MAJORITY OF KANSANS WANT EXPANDED MEDICAID.
I know this comment is two years old but I work in Healthcare in Kansas and it's just... infuriating.

My prediction: the core fallout of the upcoming debate will probably be from Charlie digging up already fairly public dirt about you to tie some of your core positions(some of which would be very new to his viewers) to your problematic past on an emotional level so that they're easier to discredit going forward.

@@ArtDutch This is going to sound wishy washy, but I'm not sure yet really, but I know it's 'there', at least to the limited extent that my attention to the subject allows, and I still watch some of his content. For me the bulk of how that plays out is that I feel apprehensive about recommending his channel to anyone I know even with regard to some of his more solid content just because I don't feel like explaining how he "already publicly apologized for the creepy discord stuff", and tbh I don't even remember where the pedo accusations come from or any details about it but I remember thinking it seemed fake? Some of the weight of those accusations on my opinion of him is countered by his fundraiser for the Palestinian charity, though.
At the end of the day though I'm just some fucking guy

Vaush forgot to mention that regulations opens up an entirely new industry. Safer products generally take more processing or more materials or at least more designing. That means lots more jobs for creating and maintaining that new technology.
It's how green energy already employs more far people than fossil fuels in the US already while only being a fraction of the energy production right now. And most of the jobs are way better and higher paying than most fossil fuel jobs. For example, solar alone has 300k jobs right now in the US. This beats out all fossil fuels combined. Coal makes up 70k... natural gas 100k, oil 11k.
