I'm in California (Sacramento) and the fires have been unbelievable. I've lived in CA my entire life and I've never seen anything even close to what is happening right now; and then to also see what is happening in Oregon and Washington. Add to that the crazy election and Covid and you have a real cluster. But this too will pass. It doesn't feel like it will, but it will.
And thank God for art for escapism. That has been a huge help this year. Thank you Lindsay, for your smile, sharing your knowledge, and optimism. It helps!

Fellow Californian here. Also been here my entire life (many decades). These fires are the direct result of the Democrats refusing to clear the forests. It's their mismanagement of California and its resources that have caused all of our problems (no electricity, epic fires, man made drought, etc.). Once upon a time, when California was still a red state, it was the promised land. Few, if any, government regulations made it the land of opportunity (not for nothing was it called the Golden State), and it was as free and open as South Dakota. Now, we're the highest taxed state in the nation yet rank dead last in quality of life. The Democrats have destroyed this state to such an extent that hubby (also a native) and I are going to have to retire someplace else. If you vote Democrat, stop. Also, make sure to sign the recall Newsom petition. If we don't remove that narcissistic hobgoblin, he's going to tank what's left of our economy after his ridiculous covid measures have taken their toll.

Oh dear Lindsay! I totally am with you on the still having to make a bed after a brutally long day. I think the last time I did that, I literally laid on the bed and blubbered for a few moments, lol! I think the solution was to toss a flat sheet on bed and put a sleeping bag over us to make it till the next day!!!! One of the many reasons I have loved you here on youtube is that you were one of the first crafter/artist's I found here. Your hot glue homemade stencil video was a revelation to me. "Dont burn your hands off kids!" Still is my favorite! Your really useful crafter and beginning artists tutorials were and still are my favorite videos ever! That you have such sympathy for us poor Californian's (really all west coasters and the rest of the world) just makes me love you even more. Your practical, fun, all encompassing heart is I am sure, one of the many things that makes you the love of your family, friends and communities hearts. Thank You from the bottom of my heart all the way across the country here in central California. Happy Birthday to your sweet 16 daughters. May it be a fun weekend for you all! I know you will use common down home sense to strike the balance between a pandemic and kids fun, many high pitched squeals of joy to you all! Sorry for the long winded comment but between you, CatHand, ShelC here on youtube, you make the world a better place during difficult times. Much Joy Be Yours! Anne 🤎💜💙🤎💜💙👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽

You are hilarious and always make me smile BUT when you say you are LAZY for using others' photos for creating wonderful art, I want to take a skillet to the back of your head (my Grama's solution to "knocking some sense" into someone). You are amazingly productive. I tend to not envy folks for having more talent or more money or more land BUT I DO have energy envy. You are inspiring with your ability to get so much done AND raise a family. You are a gift to all of us who watch you.

Hi Lindsay, I love every SatChat you do. Your upbeat personality is so inspiring. But today I was happy because you were so real about our lives these days. I have pretty much stayed in since March. I am "old" and have some health issues so trying to stay safe. I too have the same feelings and it is a hard job to stay positive. My faith has helped the most but I miss so much having the celebrations with my children. Luckily we had a beautiful summer and could get together outside. But dreading the long winter and early darkness. I guess I have complained enough, but like you, sometimes you just have to tell it like it is 🤔

Got my beads, got my coffee, got Sat Chat..... life is "normal" for 30 minutes. Thanks, Lindsay :) My granddaughters have a small group of friends we let come over. Most weekends are noisy but as safe as we can make all that "fun" and I refuse to feel guilty. Normally I'd say we're out in the country with good fresh air but.....wildfires. We don't have anything burning close to us but...seems like all the smoke from every fire in the state is trapped over our valley....It's been days since we've been able to see the neighbor's house. Rain is desperately needed

Kids are all distance ed here so now she is stuck at home and inside. Going outside burns her eyes and throat. Praying for rain here!

I understand wanting to challenge yourself and not only paint from reference photos. But at the same time I really appreciate that you do use those resources, because it sort of feels like a permission to do the same, which as a beginner I really need. I think one of the things that are holding me back as an artist is the idea that I should be able to draw from my imagination to be a "proper" artist, and while I know theoretically that that isn't true, I'm still struggling to convince myself that I'm not cheating.

Excited for your marker review and new hair! I absolutely feel you on the drinking a fancy Starbucks drink and just browsing the art/craft stores. XD I miss just lazy shopping without having an item in mind. My sister and I still buy our guilty pleasure drinks, but we just sip them on our walks with the doggies instead. Not that we’ve been able to g outside this week. The smoke in Los Angeles isn’t as bad as in SF. (Our sky’s are not orange) but the air quality is still really bad. The cars and everything outside had a thin layer of soot. It’s yuck. Thankfully, my family doesn’t live very close to the major wild fires, though last night the mountains to a neighboring city caught fire. -sigh- We’re used to wildfires, but honestly, the COVID lockdown just makes everything seem worse. No worries though, this too shall pass.

Lindsay, I know you have your down days, seriously, who doesn't? You however, bring joy whenever you post a new video. Even on your "I'm not really feeling it" days, you still bring a smile. I'm pretty sure that at least 85% of the people who watch you, will smile, and in turn they will smile at someone, so you're spreading smiles like ripples in a pond. Okay, this is kinda "new age-y" but numerically 2020 was going to be a bad year. We're almost done with it, and then we can move on to better times. (I wouldn't count on a vaccine though, they're liable to cause more harm than good in this case! I've already had it. It took me a bit longer to get over it than my family but I have asthma, so that was to be expected, But I Did get over it. No Dr's, no hospitals, and no harsh pharmaceuticals. Fear lowers your immunity. So stay upbeat and don't let the media rule you through fear. Stay calm and paint on!) Your hair looks great BTW, roots and all!

I find it so funny that one my favorite youtubers has started watching another of my favorite youtubbers when you guys are not in the same "sphere". I find her so entertaining and fascinating to watch how she makes clothes and I really like listening to her talking. I do however know that I will never try to do what she does, contrary to your videos that I have followed and I am trying to learn watercolours. I have put both of your channels in the background on my computer during this pandemic, sometimes while I was working, or cleaning or just painting. You have made kept me company during these months. You both have such nice voices to hear, I dont get sick of hearing it like some other youtubers, its like having a friend talking to you while you do stuff. :-) So glad you found her and like her. Don't go too dark on your hair, I think you look so nice blond. :-)

Oh I sub to Bernadette! She does some interesting things. Love what she makes. It's a true labor of love! The 'pirate' shirt she just posted was awesome.
I have a janky craft room too lol I've made shelves to fit places and supplies. I don't think it looks too janky though cause I've limited my color pallets etc. I made my own desk and love it. I made spaces on the side to fit bamboo trays from walmart to hold ink and other similar stuff. One side has an opening where I slide my trimmers and score boards etc. Really happy w how it turned out.

You may also like Evelyn Wood, who has a Vintage Sewing School in Australia. I thoroughly enjoy her, because like you, she is very real. And if you should remember the name of that app, I would love to know it. I also hate driving to the gym, or getting dressed up to sweat, if you know what I mean. But I need to start doing something more before I become a jiggly mound.

You have a lot on your plate and you handle it beautifully. I agree that I'm done with this pandemic but we won't be back to normal for a very long time. Especially here in California where even if I can get away who knows where the fires will be. These are trying times but we'll get through it. I guess I will have a mask in my car and one in my purse for the rest of my life.

Lindsay I’m with you about being over this pandemic. I want the much more social and much less restrictive old normal to return. Face masks are abnormal for humans and such a discomfort. I, too have to keep masks in the car (a couple, actually) because I forget that we need them till I get to a public place. Such things we took for granted in the old normal, you know...like unencumbered breathing😳 I hope the kids had a nice get together to celebrate the girls’ birthday. Take care!🌺

On one hand its obnoxious to have to disclaim about taking pandemic precautions, on the other hand I appreciate it because I don't want to support anyone that isn't taking it seriously. The longer people screw around and deny it, the longer it goes on and I've quietly unfollowed people who aren't practicing safety. We need anyone with any amount of audience to be positive examples, because sadly people form their opinion against science. I do think people who see others not taking it seriously become lax themselves.
Unrelated, another fun historical fashion/cosplayer I like is Rachel Maksy!

Amen to that, I'm tired honestly about people complaining about how inconvenient wearing a mask is, God forbid they try to protect others, then complaining about how inconvenient a global pandemic is. If people would just do what was asked of them for safety, this would have been over by now, but too many selfish people in this world. I will. Continue to take this seriously because my family means the world to me and no matter how inconvenient anyone thinks it is, I would never want to potentially kill someone.

You don't owe explanations to strangers about your purchases at the grocery. Buy all the junk food & cakes you want. Its nobody's business. My daughter just had her birthday too. We just did a family only party. I had a fleeting microsecond of thought about covid then lit up her candles. I'm beyond over this covid pandemic. I'm not giving up everything in my life bc of it. I have forgotten to put on my mask so many times when I go out. Its just not normal.

Lindsey, your are way too harsh on yourself. You do so much, so productive. Be nice to yourself. I know exactly what you mean about wanting to do things where you actually see people and feel a little more normal. We have been having in person parking lot services for church. Most of our congregation is in high risk group so being in a building is not feasible. When it was cold- living in Minnesota we have a lot of cold- of course that was not possible so I am dreading when we have to go back to zooming. Thankful that we have that option but so so nice to gather and see each other, while still being responsible. I have been going to gym and it is just wonderful, we don't have to wear masks and it is as close to normal as anything these days. Take care, God bless. Happy Birthday to your girls and enjoy the celebration.

Her BFF is Cathy Hay who has an interesting channel as well Cathy is remaking The Peacock Dress- a copy of a Worth dress. It's fascinating. Bernadettes Sibling Dani has a channel and Instagram. They are more active on Instagram nowadays. They do incredible cosplays.

The experts up here in Canada seem to be of the opinion that Trick or Treating is probably on the safer side (and suggested maybe putting the bowl of candy out, and you staying at least 6 feet away from it, letting the kids take the candy on their own). Any parties are still advised against.

I enjoyed your discussion and take on using reference photographs. It's a double-edged sword, in a way. We budding artists are always reminded to "paint what you see" - not what you think you see and that really makes sense. We have preconceived notions about what color something is (for instance, the tree trunk is brown, the leaves green, the sun yellow, etc.) but when you actually observe something objectively the colors are different, so there is a struggle of sorts. While I have attempted to plein air a few times, that comes with many struggles as well. Frustrating to get set up and then the weather changes or I am so slow that the sun has moved and I can't capture the light and mood. I feel uncomfortable in public settings when lookie-loo's creep up behind to see what I'm painting. Using photographs is comfortable and the light is not changing, etc. I try to use my own photographs when possible or at least those from sites that permit their use. Besides, I'm not going for any photo-realistic look so I'm not really copying it intensely. I think if I could practice art each and every day, I would intuitively be able to paint colors and shadows and such. I'm trying to make it my goal to "do something" whether sketch, watercolor, oil each and every day to improve and feel more confident. About a month ago I sketched a fox, then I painted him in watercolor, and lastley in acrylic. Each painting was different and I felt like each painting went quicker and more fluidly because I was building up hand memory. It was an enlightening experiment. I really like your glass class. I've watched the entire thing. Today I feel like I have some free time and can begin to give it a try. Thanks for creating these wonderful classes that are so easy to take no matter where we live. Awesome!

Hi Lindsay! I am fond of saying I only open my mouth to take one foot out and put the other in it... lol❤ you probably resorted to the stock photos because of Covid... and I love gourds too!!!

  • @angelhelp
    @angelhelp 3 роки тому

Do we ever put our feet in our mouths? Really? You have to ask??? Yes! Right up to our hips... which is the only thing that gets us to finally stop talking, meaning the feet don't go in any farther.
Party junk = you have kids, nothing more lol!
Use paper fans for blowing out the candles. Have the kids make them and everyone waves them at once (from sufficient distance that it doesn't become a fan fight).
Re reference photos: I took 2 pictures a bunch of years ago that I always thought would make cool paintings. One is of a sunflower in my garden in CT. The flower is in full bloom and has been adorned with a tiger swallowtail, a monarch, and a bumblebee. The other pic is of a sunset that I happened to notice as I drove home one evening. Normally I prefer sunrises, but this one happened to include green. There was no electronic enhancement at all. If these sound like you'd like to use them, you may, permanently, free of charge... just let me know where to email them.
Paint the cinderblocks! Paint them gold so you can make all the jokes about storing bullion, and others can make jokes about goldbricking!
Re hair color: I used to do the spring/fall change thing too, at least before much of it went gray. So... one year I had a dandy little coupon and sent "him" off to the store (he did all the shopping at the time). Reddish blonde, Clairol... that's what I wrote, and that was the color of the person on the box. I applied it as usual, then took a shower to rinse. I started to dry off, looked in the mirror, and my hair was Fire Engine Red. Whaaaaaat??? I headed right back into the shower, shampooed thoroughly several more times, emerged, and checked the mirror... no change at all. I wouldn't have cared a whit, but I had a dinner to attend that evening, emceed by a nun (she's a good friend of mine). When I arrived at the dinner, I had the unique privilege of watching a nun try to retain her composure as her expressions ran the gamut! Good times!
Re penmanship: That would be a "nope". I have tried. I remember making repeated attempts in 1st grade to try to print as well as (most) of the rest of the class. Of course I could print, but it never looked nice. It wasn't quite "graduated medical school" writing as my subsequent cursive was, but it would never be notable.
Indeed fall, specifically October, is an excellent month as quite a few of my friends (and me too) have birthdays then. The record in our family, though, is February.

FYI Lindsay, I usually only pull one foot out to stick the other one in my mouth!!! I have a great excuse for junk food right now which is, I'm shopping for my mother. Sadly most of it IS for her, and she weighs 103lbs!!! She's always been that way while if I even LOOK at a piece of cake I put on 5lbs!!! So not fair!!!
