On it's own the song is incredible, but if you have the mindset of someone who's played the game, this is an ballad of epic proportions of the adventure you've taken up until this point which is why it's my favorite theme.
Its really incredible to me that Yoshi-P managed to craft a game that has kept me engaged and enthralled for the better part of a decade, even more incredible that Soken has crafted accompanying music that can make a grown man well up. There is so much nostalgia and emotional resonance in the songs, they immediately take you back to that moment, the sadness of it, the triumph, Soken is to be protected, cherished.
@@FullBitGamer as someone who couldn't get into XXFIV during the Stormblood days I'm so glad I gave the game another chance. I picked a different starting class, took as much time to progress as possible, forced myself to pay attention to the ARR story and I'm super happy that not only I got the experience I wanted all along, but didn't go for a story skip to get to the "good" part. The only moment that didn't work for me was the G'raha reveal, and that only happened because I hated Crystal Tower so I blanked everything around it out of my memory. Had I skipped ahead, none of the big moments would have worked. And yes, as a music weeb I got what I wanted too. ShB best.

A thing to remember: If you look at the map of Western Thanalan, “The Footfalls” is the name of the path leading to Vesper Bay, location of the Waking Sands, original headquarters of the Scions of the Seventh Dawn.
There's a nice little tie-in in the name as well; the name of the subregion where the Waking Sands is located is The Footfalls. I don't know for sure that it was an intentional callback, but it seems very likely.
Those who didn't play Endwalker right on release in December 2021 will never know why "tales of loss and fire and faith" causes more pain than the entire story combined.
@@diostone6975 it’s the lyrics that play when you boot into the game (at the moment) So many people were playing endwalker at launch the severs couldn’t handle it and people were constantly crashing for weeks. On top of that every time you logged in you were put in a queue with thousands of other players, waiting literal hours for enough people to have left the game in order to be let in yourself. If you heard those lyrics you were likely a few hours away from being able to play the game.
@@diostone6975 When Endwalker released, for roughly...two weeks and a little more I'd say the queue times were absolutely broken. Not unbearably long, that's typical of MMO releases no matter how big or small they stay. The queues were so massive, they revealed a long-standing bug in the queueing process that was spaghetti code from back in 1.0: Error 2002. Staying in a long queue was much much much more susceptible to packet loss from the queue's server since it was different from the actual game server and much weaker as a result. So you'd get a queue position of thousands of people long, get close to the end, or even literally at 1, the game error's you out and automatically closes itself preventing you from getting back on quickly to retain your position. As such, for really closer to a month, countless people had to hear that opening title screen bit (read: that specific lyric of this theme but slower and more somber) over. And over. And over. And over again. Yoshi-P's team wasn't sure if it was player connections at first until they realized the old 1.0 bug and managed to fix it, leading to the queues becoming far more manageable almost overnight and the queues have since normalized since thousands of people have already beaten the main story and don't need to rush to avoid spoilers anymore. Plus there now being an Oceanic Data Center, players of that region don't have to use NA/EU/JP space anymore. tl;dr: Hilarious connection issues made everyone listen to that lyric a million times before the queues were able to settle down.
This song never fails to give me chills and make me tear up haha! Just hearing the song transition from expansion to expansion is just simply amazing! The long journey from A Realm Reborn, all the way to the end of Endwalker, were filled with ups and downs, but every step was nothing short of brilliant! It's a slow start, but I'm excited to see where our journey takes us during our stay in Dawntrail!
Footfalls may just edge To The Edge out as my favorite song from XIV. I cannot wait to see what Newfound Adventure we seek as our next journey and where it takes us as walk in the light and the shadows :)
if we look at the production staff it can be seen why - so much talent and money went into it, whereas typically, each single track in an OST isn't put together with that kind of budget. When I play Kingdom Hearts for example I'm amazed how there's LISTS of songs I utterly adore that were almost solely put together by one person. (Yôko Shimomura) "Architects" are great, I still vividly remember the first time I heard them

I hope you are enjoying your journey so far, and there is so much great stuff lined up for you in both MSQ and side raid content. The path continues to glow brightly with each foot step.
I for one hope that I can keep my promise of adventure to Hermes. And I also did not want to separate from Zenos, being the ever-constant reason to keep a weapon sharpened and being the ever patient 'friend', but it makes sense for things to turn out the way they did. I shall miss our bouts, and that strange yet endearing bond we had.
