Under the influence of Bix, Rank reached for phrases on the trombone on the 'Bix and His Gang' sides involving augmented and diminished intervals, but which never to me sounded as if they quite came off, somehow. Eph takes this approach to its apotheosis on the link above on 'Wolverine Blues'!I had actually also heard him on the Marty Grosz and his Gaslighter sides as well. I hope you can tell him that we Scottish jazz fans are so delighted to see him re-emerge so brilliantly.
