SEVEN seater showdown! Is Citroen’s £32k eBerlingo BETTER than Mercedes’ £55k EQB? / Electrifying

  • Have you got children? Or friends? Do your children have friends? Do you sometimes need to transport more than five people without making the extras lie in the boot? Then you’ll need a seven-seat car.
    Unless you upgrade to what is essentially an electric minibus, you’ve got a choice of two seven seaters here in the UK. The Mercedes EQB, or the mighty Citroen eBerlingo XL.
    Once you do a little digging, there isn’t much electric choice for larger families. Yes, there’s supposed to be a seven-seat option for the Tesla Model Y, but good luck ordering it. Same goes for the six-or-seven-seat Model X, even at more than 100-grand, because that car is missing in action in the UK.
    The VW ID Buzz is getting both a six and seven-seat option, but that’s not going to arrive for a while, and like we said, after that you’re into Mercedes eVito territory, and that’s more luxury airport hotel transfer than school drop-off.
    If your choice boils down to these two, which is the better car? Join Nicki and Tom as they compare the two. Is the Mercedes really worth £55,310 price tag, or does the plucky Citroen e-Berlingo deliver the goods (and the kids) for far less? As always, let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

    That Citroen could be ideally converted to a Camper-Van. Wide enough for a double mattress or a single if the likes of me were driving it and room for a cooker, fridge and maybe even a porta-potty, saving on a shovel to dig holes behind trees when you go!!

    I choose the EQB to fit three kids comfortably and it's great. It's not just a great seven seater, it's a great electric car. It's a lot more luxurious feeling than the Wolkswagen ID cars. Some things I'd like to add to the review:
    1. The charging curve is one of the flattest there is, so it's actually quite fast.
    2. You folded the second row seat in the wrong way when you were getting into the third row. You should simply tilt the seat and slide it forward with the handle on the top the seat. What you did is what you do when you want a big open trunk with a flat floor.

    Used to own a Renault Kangoo XL EV in 2016..... If I remember correctly they were £18,500. So moving up to £32k for what appears to be exactly the same vehicle with an extremely similar range & battery pack only proves how much more money manufacturers are charging for their EV's!

    • @mikadavies660
      @mikadavies660 Рік тому +1

      @@garyallsopp6369 I also looked at the Zoe, it it was a good looking little car. But the battery lease was twice the price of the Kangoo. For some reason the "commercial vehicles" received a 50% discount. I think the prices then were heavily discounted by the manufacturers. But now they have gone the opposite way and decided that people will pay no matter what! I think this is a big mistake. Also they were leading the way in 2014 but Renault / Citroën have sat back and done very little. Really stupid when "commercial vehicles" require EV power even more than private cars. It's never mentioned in 7-seater reviews but visibility from the back seats is hugely important - as a kid with travel sickness ending up in the back seats was a nightmare in most cars. Shame there's no Galaxy/Espace equivalent EV being made at the moment too, the SUV or van are the worst of either world.

      I see several airport taxis around here with the next size up, spacetourer/traveler. Same size as the vito so you get the luggage space on top of 7 or 8 seats. And 330km range with the big battery size.
      If you have the option of fast charging on your lunch break (10-80% in just over 30 min) you could do over 500km in a day without major issues.
      Also, taxi ranks around here have started putting up 22kw chargers. It might not add loads if you're only there for 5 min, but every little bit helps.

    The Berlingo would profit from a bigger battery, like a 60kWh useable unit. Also, given it's van genes it would massively profit from having a few power outlets inside or with an adapter from the chargeport (V2L).

    What about the 7-seater options from the rest of the Stellantis group, Peugeot e-rifter, Citroen eSpaceTourer, Vauxhall Combo-e, Vauxhall Vivaro and Peugeot eTraveller, is the Berlingo the best of the bunch? At the luxury end we also have the EQS SUV as well now and I’m glad to see the NV200 is no longer an option. Such a shame Rivian’s R1S isn’t available in the UK as that looks like a great 7-seater. Exactly what I was thinking. Second row with wide opening sliding doors, with seats at a height to prevent backache are the most important features. Seeing how you access the third row with a car seat base with supporting leg installed would demonstrate how useable these are. That Merc would need a trailer for all that stuff that comes with kids, you’d struggle to even get a single folding travel stroller in that boot. My last three cars were determined by the needs of the kids, V70 because it could fit of twins buggy and two baby seats, replaced with Alhambra when we needed to add a third child seat. Discovery for three child seats, dog crate, tow hitch for bike rack and the stuff active kids come with
