I ordered it some days ago. I couldn't choose between the od green and brown. I prefer being less noticable in the woods. The camo was too military for my taste. I also thought about buying the older light border patrol predecessor since it's a little cheaper but it lacks the webbing. Recently I realized that brown performs very well with camo maybe even more so than od green. I looked around at my bags and noticed that every single backpack I have is od green. I opted for the brown color this time. I hope I can get to use it a lot since this is very costly for a broke student like me.

Owned a Särmä TST CP10, would choose between Jaakari S or M if I want a good top loader.
Really hope Jaakari S has a side zip for easy access to the main compartment so I can both overload and find stuff easily.

Hi S Y. I have the Särmä TST CP15. Such a great pack. Savotta and Varusteleka have a serious winner on their hands there. The side zip on the S would be cool however not sure how it would work with the roll top and the zip integrity... Unless it didn't go all the way.

Lovely video, thank you! I'm on the fence between this and the S. This is just 7 cm taller than the S and 1 cm deeper. Can you help me decide with 2 questions:
    1) The floating lid allows overpacking, but does it allow "underpacking"? The M seems just too big for my EDC, as you note here. However sometimes I travel for a week or more and could use the space. Could you tell me how much can it be actually strapped down? I'd love a comparison in size between the S and a M fully strapped down... The M has the zip and the side drop pockets that the S lacks. Neither is a deal breaker, but pretty convenient to have. I plan to buy 2 6L side pouches anyways. But I would rather have more flexibility than less. It all boils down to size. This pack must be small enough that it does not feel like a pain to leave the house and board a plain with it. The S fits the bill, the M maybe, depending on how much I can strap it down.
    2) the waist belt, or as I prefer to call it the waste belt, is unnecessary on 90% of my trips. There's nothing I hate more than stoving a pack on an overhead locker and getting the floppy belt stuck. In some pics on savotta website I've seen the belt being rolled out on itself and closed with what appears to be an elastic. Could you give it a try and let me know what it looks/feels like?

What's your thought on how many liters for a 2-3 day hike? Would this M size be enough or too small? I currently have the U.S. Military 3 day assault pack and that feels a little small.

Hi Paulo. I think there's definitely two camps. Minimal barrel pack like this or the newer technical packs with more options. The top is the Mistral Anorak from Helikon Tex. I already have the Woodsman Anorak and the Mistral is the same but different. Mistral is lighter, whereas the Woodsman is tougher and heavier, however the layout and feature are pretty much the same. I'm planning a comparison piece similar to the M65 video I made a few weeks back. Watch this space 🤜🤛

Now that's a proper head to head. Although they're similar bags on paper they're very different. The Savotta is a tank and it's strength is its simplicity. Whereas the Constrictor II has so many features for every possible occasion... And I haven't even mentioned the back panel. That thing is a work of art and makes it a joy to carry. I'll add the Constrictor II to the comparison vid I'll make. Savotta Jääkäri M, Tasmanian Tiger Mil Ops 30, Crib Gogh Constrictor II and the Osprey Archeon 30 👍

Hey it was a good vid, I'm still thinking about whether to get one of these or whether to opt for a cheaper and lighter model.
Also don't take the pronunciation at face value, the Finnish umlaut vowels are tricky. Better to hear it from a Fin pronouncing it ;)
The word itself is a " Finnification " of the german word Jäger.

@@Blastsniper Ha ha ha.. it's funny how far those German travelled and managed to slide there language into others. English is pretty much based on their old Germanic. The smaller one is great. Make sure to check out the Sarma TST CP15 from Varusteleka. I've made some content on both the smaller Savotta and Sarma packs. Stay well brother
