    Not sure if I'm wrapping my head around the megneg right. I had it installed with one positive token and one band on the neg air chamber as baseline. Had to add 50psi over stock air can to achieve 30% sag. Felt good. Then I added an additional band to the neg chamber + another 10 psi to achieve same sag. Thought the second band would make more plush but the added air pressure made it more supportive across the curve while being more linear.
    Edit: NVM I think I had my original baseline numbers wrong. Went zero bands today and had to go 10 psi above when I had 2 bands for sag. Was more chattery. Earned a couple PR's on Strava DH, but broke traction and almost ate 💩a couple times. So I'll be going back to 1 band and if I have to, run pressure a tad softer. That seems to be the sweet spot for my setup.

    I put a meg neg to my nomad v4. Using 4 bands and none volume reducers. Somewhere arrond 32%-35 sag. It is like you describe. I had to make a couple of test rides and play with the bands and air preasure.
    Now it feels really good. Not this harsh at the beginning, more support in the mid stroke and better buttoming out resistance.
    The weird thing is that you have more sag but you don't fall into the travel when you push or when you land.
    The bike is low af when I sit on it. I need to go from low to high setting and extend the fork to 180mm. I'll also take the spacer out of the shock to gain 65mm stroke instead of 60mm.
    This is the plan.

      @@DrJMTB Sweet thanks mate. After a million configs and a shock pump arm like Pete Sampras serve arm... I've found the sweet spot at 3 Neg Bands, 0 Pos token @275 psi with CC Link-88kg. See how it goes with BO over time and potentially add 1-2 tokens to the Pos.
      Next ride will have 170mm Zeb (previously Fox 36-160mm) until Fox 36 170mm air shaft arrives. Then I'll put the 36 G2 back in as the 36 is 5mm lower than the Zeb at 170mm. That'll hopefully bring the head angle back closer to min of 63.5, currently at 63.2 with the Zeb, BB at 340mm. Thanks for your input! So I'm pretty late to the party but I've just installed a megneg on my hightower v2 and it feels a bit bobby in the initial stroke. Over baby head sized rocks it'll soak it up first and then bob a few times. Does this sound typical? I'm woried I messed up the damping side of things and want to know if it's the megneg or the damper. Right now I think there's two volume reducers in the positive and two bands in the negative. What happened was I misunderstood what the bleed screw was for as I was taking the bearings off the end of the shock and let a drop or two of damping oil out, I have no idea if this would be enough to have a noticable effect.

    Would this product be more for heavy riders in terms of weight ?

    • @DrJMTB
      @DrJMTB  4 роки тому

      Not necessarily. Significantly heavier riders that have to put a lot of air volume in at baseline, will have trouble not exceeding the max PSI with MegNeg as you have to significantly increase the air volume with it. You have to put ~20-25% more air volume in, so check your shocks max PSI and what pressure you're running now, and see if you'd stay under the max PSI.

    • @DrJMTB
      @DrJMTB  4 роки тому +1

      You really need to do your own back to back testing as these settings will vary greatly based on rider weight, preference, and riding style and trails. I'd recommend starting with 2 bands in the negative chamber and keep your positive tokens the same. If the shock is too stiff feeling, add another negative band. Don't be afraid to experiment with extremes and be willing to do several configurations. Prior to installing the Cascade Components lower link on my Hightower, I was running 3 negative bands and 3 positive tokens at around 195 psi.

    So if we all aim for a small bump sensitivity then why would I prefer to add som bands to the negative chamber?

    • @DrJMTB
      @DrJMTB  3 роки тому

      Because small bump sensitivity is only 1 variable. We all should be aiming to find the balance between small bump sensitivity and support/progression. MegNeg with bands in the negative chamber still equates to increased negative volume over the stock setup, just not as strong of an effect.

    • @eden4x4
      @eden4x4 3 роки тому

      @@DrJMTB but if the negative chamber only affects off the top and mid stroke then how would it affect the end stroke if you run it without bands?

    • @DrJMTB
      @DrJMTB  3 роки тому +2

      @@eden4x4 The negative air chamber also helps you resist bottom out. In the initial part of the travel it has a pushing affect to help the spring initiate into the travel. At the end of the stroke it is similar to pulling a stopper off from the window; it will resist bottom out by having a pulling effect on the air spring. Increasing the negative air chamber makes the travel less linear. Thus, no bands can make the shock feel harsh.

      What a nonsense...! You can have the strongest legs in the gym but your bike still doesn't perform well on the trail because it doesn't have enough bottom out resistance. Then how would your strong legs tame your suspension's bad performance??? Also, when your suspension performs bad your body is also too tense and doesn't perform as well as it would with a good suspension set up. This also hurts the ability to ride fast.
