    Hey Clint :D
    Its funny you mention Rainbow boas in this video. I was massively in love with the rainbow boa, but the facebook communities and videoes on youtube made it seem like I needed a PHD in snake care to have them.. BUT! Thanks to your video I felt much more sure of myself and I bought a baby-pair from a very good breeder in Denmark. They were 1 ½ month old but already eating like champs and had been socialised from the start because the breeder originally wanted them as a breeding pair.
    They are now 3 months old - eating and growing like CRAZY and is the most happy noodles ever. Thank you SO MUCH for your channel! It genuinly is a safe and positive place on the internet and I cant thank you enough for the help youve given me - and the joy of having my dream snakes without fear :D

    I like to describe their husbandry as the terrestrial snake version of a crested gecko. Room temp and a daily misting will keep them quite content. Out of my 4 I only have one that regularly bites, but she’s gotten better.

      I’m interested in these snakes, I’ve looked at them multiple times before, but I go out of town 2x a year for a week each. How do you keep them moist if you leave?

    • @tonyflamingosucks6590
      @tonyflamingosucks6590 Рік тому

      @@ThunderStruck15best bet would be to invest in a misting system that’ll do it on a set timer. I’d search “good cheap reptile misting systems Reddit” someone will tell you a good cost effective option.
      If you don’t have a job and can’t afford that, you still have options.
      Moist hides: snake discovery has videos on this, I’d say give the snake two moist hides full of damp moss (that you know it likes using) one on the side with a low temp heat mat, one on the cool side.
      Water bowls and a towel: give the snake a big water bowl and cover 50-70% of the lid
      Keeping the rooms moisture: turn off all fans (not ac’s, keep your house cool of course) if your bathroom is close by turn on a hot shower for an hour or so. Boil a pot or two of water at the same time, once you turn the shower off put the boiled water in open containers inside the room. Shut the door with a towel under it and boom.
      Do all this and spray a few extra spritz’ into the tank as you usually would, and it’ll likely be okay :)
      There are also cheap humidifiers that will add some supplemental humidity to the room
      You can even research some plants that hold humidity in a room, probably won’t do much but it’s worth trying & plants are pretty

    I love your tie! It’s so cute! My Honduran Milk Snake (hypo tangerine) was the exact same when I got her as a baby. A blur of whippy fast snake with bitey tiny teeth biting my hands and arms. So I know exactly what you mean. She’s still not super friendly, but she isn’t biting and musking all over so I count that as a big win! And what she lacks in friendliness she more than makes up for with beauty. She’s GORGEOUS. You need to add that tie to your merch! 🦕🦖🦕🦖🦕

    A bee breeding video would help. Honey bees are haplodiploid. It confuses me. They benefit from extreme polyandry. I think narrowing the gene pool makes sense for instrumentally inseminated breeder queens because they don't have to perform well.

    Rajah off of Aladdin I think would be epic. I just found you guys and I can not get enough! I am an animal lover and thanks to my mom and life's quarks I have interacted with many different kinds. I really miss my moms 15' Burmese python Kisma. growing up I can remember morning/afternoon naps in the front yard using her coils as a pillow and she would all the time drape her head next to mine and watch over me. Never ONCE did she ever pose a threat. Well at least in the normal since of threat. always mark your water levels when giving a bath. A 15 foot pissed off snake hose does not bode well for smell, clean up or a very happy snake. She was allowed to roam the house and yard as she pleased and never had to worry about her handling, feeding, hunting other animals. Well unless they were stray tom cats that were looking at harming me, then he was dinner.. felt so bad but he was asking for it. after about a week of him coming into our yard and searching for me just to attack me, Kisma had had enough and fixed the issue. Me my parents and even some neighbors had tried to get him to stop even the animal cops couldn't catch him. Still feel bad tho. Anyways, I would love to see your take on Kisma's kind and what you would rate them. I loved her and still do so very much. Sadly when my mom took in another Malikai male he was sick and regardless of my families efforts for quarantine and keeping them safe from each other, Kisma cought what he had and they both passed away snuggled together. Everyone that hears about my experience keeps trying to tell me she was just sizing me up to eat me. I know very well that she would never have done that. Heck even a few times she opened her enclosure to sleep with me and wound up waking to my mom checking around me to see if she was hiding with me. I would look up at her lift the blankets and Kisma would be curled up by my belly with her head on the pillow next to mine. Those were some of the awesome days growing up honestly. Huge thank you for bringing that feeling back with all of your videos. Honestly, All animals can be great companions but you have to be able to respect their way of life as their own and NOT try to force them to conform to yours. This is one of the best ways I have found that builds one of the strongest most unique relationships out there. Fallow basic guidelines while allowing them to express their own personalities as they live the best life possible. I literally mean treat them like the treasured and cherished friends you will ever have. If having a small pond for them to play and bathe in and they also eat minnows then why not once in a while put a few in there with them, like my cats love crickets in the bath tub, My mice loved the play tank filled with new soil every 2 weeks for them to dig and burrow in, with fresh grasses and wild seeds and flowers that were safe for them to eat like snap dragons and roses, not to mention fresh caught moths at night (super favorite btw) or grass hoppers. I seriously mean that if they are having fun and are happy so will you every day. I also would not mind chatting about all the weird wonderful experiences I have had. Thank you to all of you there for bringing a since of home back to my life that has been missing since my mom passed. Thank you so very much^^ Big hugs to all, safe travels, happy moments and above all else enjoy a small moment for yourself! Peace!

    Of the Asian rat snake species, I feel like the Japanese rat snake is probably the most similar temperament wise to our North American rat snake species, like corn snakes. They definitely seem to be gaining popularity over the last few years as well, likely due to that, and being a bright green snake while lacking the more specialized care of other available green colored snakes lol. Should definitely do a video on them at some point!

    I have seen them in herping videos in Thailand, and they are always found in the forest floor in elevation. Herpers there don’t recommend the species for keeping, as it mostly remains invisible. It seems very difficult to keep and especially in my warm summer country of Greece it would be a nightmare to keep it cool. It is among my favorite snakes though with nearly unreal colors. There is a related green bamboo ratsnake with stunning green too.

      I mean their ok pets (other than potentially leaving if you're set up isn't up to the quality they expect) but it's probably better to not oversaturate your local area with non native bees i don't know of any one that keeps native American bees as pets though so I can't really say wether they would be good pets or not.

      @@coldfire774 I’ve been doing a lot of research on them. I recently read a book on them call The Beekeeper’s Bible: Bees, Honey, Recipes and other honey uses. I find them more fascinating the more I read about them. I do want to do more research on how non- native bees effect the area and what kind of impact they have. I’d be curious to see what kind of rating Clint would give them.

    I have a bamboo rat snake and a mandarin rat snake, and I keep them on the other side of my room from all the other sneaking closures. It is a little bit cooler on that side. And in the summer it is the side of the room with the air conditioning. Sometimes during really hot weather, I have to put their cages down on the floor right next to the air conditioner vent. You could also use a computer fan to help cool them down.

    Please could you do a video on Russian Rat Snakes? They are well known as one of the friendliest yet also one of the toughest snakes in the world. (They come from Siberia and parts of northen China). They are kept a lot in Europe but underrepresented in the states. They also come in batman Black and yellow 😀

    I've gone from scorpions to tarantulas to centipedes and soon frogs... now I NEED to go snakes!!! Sadly tho being Downunder we can't keep non-natives. And that also means I probably can't ever have a snake as my "snake heart" will always belong to these lil darlings!

    Hi Clint. I was thinking about how so many reptiles need calcium supplements when they are in captivity. When they are in the wild, how do they naturally get extra calcium as compared to captive?

    • @level-III
      @level-III Рік тому +5

      Digestion of bones from the various things they eat is likely the primary source of calcium. I will do more research
