  • The Children's python (Antaresia childreni) is one of the smallest pythons on the planet. Their small size makes them very reasonable pets indeed. Despite being little, they have all the personality of much larger snakes. They are like the ackie monitors of the snake world. They are definitely one of the best and most underrated snakes you can get. So, is the Children's python the best pet snake for you? Let's find out!

My Childrens Python, Beatrice, is now a year old. She is a Python is every way. I recall when she arrived. The box was so very light and the snake bag within felt empty. Beatrice was the tiniest little creature, yet she was a real snake. She has never refused prey. A pleasure to take her out for snake enrichment. It has been a pleasure to have a Childrens Python in my snake family.

    Hi Clint.
Just wanted to let you know that, in no small part because of your channel, I am now the owner of a tiny, adorable little Children's python. Not only is it the first snake I've ever cared for, but also the first reptile.
She is absolutely enchanting, and I feel such pride when she feeds. That may sound odd, but when you're a noodle with a head that's only the size of a pencil, 'catching' and coiling your food seems pretty heckin' bold.
Keep up the great work! 😀

And while not as youtube famous as Cory, Corvus Oscen, Tank Tested, Swhiskey, L.R.Bretz's Aquatics, Big Al's, JH Aquatics, KGTropicals, and Simply Betta are just a few other channels that come to mind. Most of these are freshwater though. If you're a saltwater guy Corvus and Big Al's would be your best bet from this list.

The idea of a python with reasonable enclosure requirements and that won't outgrow mice (cheaper than rats) with a good feeding response sounds really good. This should be a much more widely bred snake. I like smaller snakes because I want them to live in a bioactive enclosure with ample space, that's more reasonable to achieve with a smaller snake.

As an Aussie children's pythons are one of my options for first snake, I have to look after a beginner species first (I'm probably going Beardie) but after I've had them for 2 years I can upgrade my reptile keeper's licence and get some other species including the children's python. I met one in high school and it took a liking to me (insisting on moving to my arm so I showed it to the rest of the class) this python is why I fell in love with snakes, I loved the feel of him on my arm.

I've been looking for a addition to my collection and I always come to your videos and watch the video relentlessly. While doing research. I've been thinking about what I wanted for a long time. I've gone from Dwarf Caimen to the leopard gecko. So thank you for providing these videos. I support what you do and how you start people with basic education.

These were my introduction to pythons, when I was just a kid. I still have a soft spot for the Antaresia snakes. I've considered setting up a breeding arrangement for them to give kids the same snake intro that I had, but my big passions have really moved to tortoises and varanids/teiids.

Why, hello there, Clint! I discovered your channel relatively recently, and I've been going on a binge watch of all your videos; just wanted to say, I appreciate your passion and excitement about reptiles, and it's been very fun, and very educational, learning about some animals even I didn't know about as a fellow ectothermic creature fan, haha
FOR EXAMPLE: I've been considering a snake as a pet after my current beardie eventually passes away (hopefully not for at least a few more years, I've had him since he was about a month old, and that was 7 years ago), but I didn't know what I wanted to go with. I know the ball python is usually a pretty safe bet for a first time snake owner, but seeing this adorable little critter? I know what my next pet is gonna be.
    Thanks Clint, keep bein' awesome!

Always enjoy your videos. I think it really helps to put each animals care into honest perspective to people who are looking into these amazing creatures. There are not many places where you can get complete honest info wether or not you can provide the correct and proper care for these animals to thrive not just survive. A lot of people selling animals make their husbandry and care sound super easy so people are more likely to purchase that animal which is so sad because then these beautiful animals suffer. You should make a video on all of the antaresia since they're care ia very similar. Like you said childrens pythons and the rest of the Antaresia are very underrated. Have a good day

Aww! I'm glad to see this! I work with animals at a zoo, and I like to watch your videos to learn more about the reptiles. I got my first snakebite (technically, two bites) from a Children's python. (He thought I might be food.) But they're beautiful, and cool snakes! Definitely on my list for my own reptile pet someday.

I love my CP. They are the Chihuahua of the python world: small, sweet and feisty. They do think they are big snakes and can be nippy as babies, and even as an adult. They do like to climb so some branches for climbing is a must.
