- Dive into the sonic wonders of the Korg Modwave with my comprehensive guide on creating Frequency Modulation (FM) sounds on the Modwave.
Join me as I explore using the dual oscillators, wavetables, and sample to create FM sounds. Learn how to harness the FM technique to produce complex and distinctive tones reminiscent of the iconic sounds from the 80s, including digital electric pianos, Danger Zone basses, and digital bells.
In this tutorial, I walk you through the Modwave's FM features, showcasing its dual oscillators , dual layers, modulation routing options, and Motion Sequencer. Discover how to use any wavetable or even samples as carriers and modulators.
As a special treat, I have just released a free FM sound set for the Modwave, and you'll get an exclusive demo in this video! 🆓🎵

Genius, thank you - I've never got further than tweaking fm sounds on the reface dx, and all I ever managed was to sound horrid - now I know why! Thanks, Ian.
Thanks!
Again a lot of thanks for this tut and the download!
No problem!
the best modwave tuts ever
Much appreciated! All I ask is help spread the word:)
@@IanDixonTDL of course not a problem.
great tutorial again! is there a way to synchronize the modwave native software with the hardware device? i just got the software as well to help me understand what it going on with the waves but unlike the free modwave editor the native app/vst only seems to take the mod buttons and khaos pad from my hardware device
The modwave hardware doesn't control the native other than the mod controls and kaoss pad just as you said. The reason is that the editor uses USB/Network to communicate and not MIDI, the modwave hardware sends out midi data only on the Kaoss pad and mod controls which is why the native only picks up on them.
@@IanDixonTDL ah thats too bad it would have been much easier if there was an option too choose between the two inputs.
thanks for the reply!
Is it possible to do lfo loop points with the modwave like u can on serum synth?
I don't think so but you could use the motion sequencer to create custom loop
@@IanDixonTDL yeah I had already done tht but not quite the same 😃 thank you tho , any chance of getting some dubstep modwave sounds 😂😂😉 pretty please 🍒
@@smokedoggbaby953 I am a bit old school :) but I could take a look. Any good examples for me to listen to?
@@IanDixonTDL appreciated your kind sir 😉
With your skills anything is possible, examples could be someone like a producer called skrillex I believe, but if it is not possible not to fuss,it was a longshot 🫡😂
@@smokedoggbaby953 I am sure it's possible. I will have a go.
So can it do what the opsix does?
Not really. The Opsix has six operator FM (like the DX7) where as the Modwave is two operator. So you can get some FM type sounds on the Modwave but not as complex as the Opsix
