    This is one of my very favorite deconstructions because it introduced me to Joan Diener and Karen Morrow, plus it has Cheno, Audra, Patti and "Patti".

    My best friend cannot get enough of that 'IbegtodifferwithyouBilly' in Forbidden Broadway. Like, to the point that when we saw her in concert, he was going to ask her to autograph THAT--a line from a parody show making fun of Patti.

    I am obsessed with this because I literally listen to every song and wait to hear when they switch to head voice and judge them by how well they achieve the switch.

    Seth, my Darlin' Seth, where the hell have you been all my life??? OMG!!! I found you purely by accident. I'm getting ready to give a performance and wanted to knock 'em dead for eight minutes. What to sing? Broadway music of course since that is what I do. All these years I've been trying to figure out how these other theater queens blend head and chest with such ease. Mine is still a "hit and miss". Very frustrating. Don't suppose you could suggest any special pointers. So far none seem to work consistently for me. HELP!!!!!!!
    Eternally grateful,
    Vanessa,

    I LOVE THIS.
    Unless the songs are written especially for you by people that know ALL of the nuances of your singing range, skill and style, singers just do their best with their own best voice (insert Merman here). You can find songs that end on your very, very, best note... that note that you can belt and seemingly hold forEVER, OR some songs that have that tippy-top middle phrase that allows you to belt. People sing within an inner ability to deliver in the form of an arrangement to make emphasis... you just think it and feel it. It's a talent. Karen Morrow, simply one of the most fabulous voices, could emphasize so beautifully (she deff has a great loud pedal). It is too bad Morrow never had a major vehicle that she could run away with, but I HAD A BALL is quite good.

    I love your sister for flat out saying 'No' to Patti. This video is great and is the best comparison of excellent and poor usage of a head/mix vs. belt.
    Time to watch all the videos on your youtube after catching you on XM radio the other day!

    No one can come close to Joan... being the wife of Mitch Leigh the composer doesn’t hurt in having the last word in interpretation as well as vocal prowess.

    puhleeze... as gorgeous as that g sounded it was head voice all the way. that performance though would actually be great to deconstruct in this video. she transitions belt to head voice so many times and so beautifully in it

  • @mseadog
    @mseadog 6 років тому

    The switches you point out all occur on an /i/ vowel; the /i/ vowel is really conducive to head resonance, or that soprano sound. Those singers that don’t “switch” into head resonance aren’t usually able to sing a real /i/ vowel, but rather do something like a closed /e/, as in “It’s gonna be MAY” by JT. #IPAobsessed

  • @SultrySole
    @SultrySole 15 років тому

    ok, even though I love belting, what's the whole problem with head voice? There's something to be said for even being able to get into your headvoice mid-belt. it's not easy to get to it from a head voice, that's something to be applauded as well

    only one problem here, the CHeno is famous for that head not, fans adore her random nature, and we love her amazing ability to go from belting, to head voice, that being said, you were hillarious lip syncing all the parts!
