I am friends with her roomie in college, Claci. She said she would stay in her room and practice her riffs for hours.
I'm obsessed with a good riff, and for Shoshana to be the one, makes it sooo much better. I like the choices made in this rendition.
Shosh is reDIC! Her riffs blow the hair off my head and give me goosebumps for days. So so so glad you did a deconstruction of her belt/riffs. And what better way to do it than with HAIR. I need to get my tickets soon soon soon. I know this revival is going to be fabulous. Gavin Creel, anyone?

So glad I stumbled onto this tonight. I'll never forget listening to that Actor's Fund recording (15 years ago?) - I had just gotten back from doing a European tour of Hair for a year, so the show was close to my heart, and that whole recording was perfect. But this was the moment I fell out of my chair, and I still do any time it comes on shuffle.

Thank you so much for deconstructing this! This is my favorite thing I've heard Shoshana sing and ALSO! I'm so glad you mentioned the whistle tone because I knew what it was but I had NO IDEA what it was called. That made my life in trying to communicate it to my voice teacher a lot easier, hah
