Eric Clapton, Gregg Allman, Warren Haynes, and Derek Trucks jamming to a song written in the 1930's and first recorded in 1940. It doesn't get any better than this.
I've been in love with Gregg Allman, his brother Duane and the rest of the Allman Brothers since 1969. I don't mean in a romantic sense, but a musical one. With that out of the way, I always liked Clapton, but as a fan, it has grown over the years & as all baby boomers know already, like the finest wine, we get better with age and Eric Clapton is no exception.
Johan Hällgren I was devastated also. They were just getting started. Of all the Deaths we've had to endure over the years, Duane Allmans affected me the most.
No wonder... The Derek Trucksband is in my opionen the greatest Bluesband in the World in our Time..Phantastic but thats only my personal point of few.But i still don't have a cd ,which will change.Well Lord knows i got a long to do list...hopefully the lord has mercy and give me a better health to do what i have to do.Anyway.Great performance and EC on fire on the fretboard. The right people together at the right place in time. What more can you ask for ?🎼👌
The old version of Key to the Highway with Derick and the Dominos is maybe the greatest song ever played by anyone ever. Took me awhile to find it and no I don't know where I got it but it is so so good.
If you love that version, take a listen to Freddie King’s recording of the song. Freddie was E.C’s idol at the time, Eric drawing inspiration from his Chicago style blues and ultimately inviting Freddie to sign with his RSO label.
I was at this show just by luck of having bought tickets for that night - one of the great experiences of my concert going life (and there have been many).
I had the good fortune to see Clapton in September of 2021. Now I've seen Page, Beck (twice each) and now Clapton. I too can die at peace. So I've got that going for me . . . which is nice. Edit: I saw the Allman Brothers twice, back in the day, as well.😊
Sweet to see Eric and Greg smiling back and forth while they're singing together. Those two have a common thread all the way back to dear Brother Duane. And doubly so singing Key to the Highway, kinda where the mutual admiration all started
Yes great to hear this .First heard it by Susan Tedeshi and Derek Trucks and that was great too.The comments on that YT lead me to here.Previously I had thought Clapton was too pop but now changed my mind .They are all good playing this song .
Excelent and explendid song of blues play for the King of gutar of all the time Eric clapton togheter with one of great group of R and B the allman brothers band .unforgettable peformance.
Lets not forget Allman Bros guitarist Warren Haynes is on that stage with them. One of the most dynamic guitar players around. Go see a Gov't Mule show if you ever have the opportunity.
He has a lot of interesting approaches in various tunes. Listen to his solo in the original recording of Sunshine of Your Love. Mind blowing. In some tunes, instead of using the key scale he switches following the chords. It’s called, “Treating each chord as a separate event”. Jazz guys so that a lot.
Great comment. Every Clapton arrangement is beautifully set up for his style of playing too, plenty of space and time. One fine example being the Bob Dylan 30th Anniversary show where EC performed Don't Think Twice, It's All Right. In my opinion that is one of the best covers of a Dylan song in history (Next to Jimi's Watchtower and Jeff Buckley's Just Like a Woman).
Seem, Eric, 7 times in about 45 years, therefore l have many different versions of Key to the highway and they're all good, but l love the slide work on this by mr. Trucks
Wow. A rich field of opinions and comments here! This is classic rock-n-roll blues, done by people who are some of the best long-time experts in the BIZ! Try to relax - you're in good hands.
Duane Allman estará siempre en los corazones de sus seguidores,Gregg Allman te extrañamos también talentoso y extraordinario vocalista pianista, hermanos irremplazables igual que su extraordinaria banda, the Allman brothers band raza única del rock inmoral
With all due respect to Big Bill, Eric Clapton owns this song. He has carried the Blues torch for all of the old black musicians who couldn't get credit because of racism and lack of appreciation of the Blues. And I absolutely love the way the band inner reacts with one another during the song. When Eric and Gregg look back at each other while they're singing, you know they are just having a heck of a Time.
Clapton had great effortless leads with smooth phrasing. Derek Trucks slide lead was also excellent. Haynes didn't shine here quite as good as the others, though I have seen him do spectacular guitar work.
It's kind of funny, Warren Haynes is having a bit of trouble trying to NOT play Clapton's own licks! "Layla and other love songs" is quite certain to be drilled in Haynes' brain.
Must be nice in to stand with your contemporaries and have the knowledge that you can kick their arses and be humble with it, along with Joe Bonamasa untouchable in my opinion,

Except when he played this with Duane . . .
Eric, Warren and Derek, it's doesn't get any better than that!

"The older the violin, the sweeter the music." Augustus McCrae (Lonesome Dove)
awesome clapton haynes and trucks what a great trio of guitarists
You know your pretty special when Eric Clapton wants to sit in with you.
I'm 70 years old now and got to see these guys live in concert...i can die in peace now
Amen. Me too.
I m 75 and been digging these guys since 69 and Eric since Cream. They. Sound good!!
Clapton loves playing with Derek Trucks so much. Every video I've ever watched, he breaks out into a smile when Derek plays a solo : )
Man oh man I break out in a smile as well! What a tune baby
Derek probably reminds Eric of Duane. Clapton thought of Duane as the musical brother he never had, and he was devastated when Duane died.
Johan Hällgren I was devastated also. They were just getting started. Of all the Deaths we've had to endure over the years, Duane Allmans affected me the most.

Of course it was!
It's Derek and the Dominos, not "Derick."

This is one of the best versions I’ve heard of this song. Well done. Such a great slide guitar solo
Sweet to see Eric and Greg smiling back and forth while they're singing together. Those two have a common thread all the way back to dear Brother Duane. And doubly so singing Key to the Highway, kinda where the mutual admiration all started
I saw this show. It was part of the March 2009 Beacon run in NYC! Clapton was a guest of the Allman Brothers as part of their 40th Anniversary shows.
🔥🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎤🎤🎤🎤 keys to the highway Eric Clapton allam brother
What a great performance. Old masters at their best. Crowd loved it.
I don't think anyone expected Greg Allman to go into a solo. Did you see the smile on their faces?
Love that, great observation

Eric Clapton never played a "pop" tune in his life.

there's some other guy up there, too
carrying on the legacy, like Derek.
Clapton is god
Clapton seems to be able to pull everything out of Pentatonic scales, I mean it's seems to be infinite when in his hands.
in this one, he is moving in and out of "major" and "minor" scales of A...
Robert McGee Just learning guitar. I noticed! Can’t repeat it but I noticed.
@@josesbox9555 clapton stuff is perfect for learning how to mix major and minor, you will learn tons of licks and concepts!!

I love Gregory's voice.
Really like the loping tempo that the Allmans set here 👌
great blues from all participants
Clapton is the best
EXCELLENT!! SUAVE!!
The Master of the guitarists!
Derek was closely watching what clapton's hands in that last solo...
Wow! That is the best thing I've heard in a long time! I wish I was there to see that Lawdy! Please play again brothers hopefully in California
Trucks on FIRE, so perfect!!!
