- Tampa's Lowry Park Zoo is a 63-acre (25 ha) nonprofit zoo located in Tampa, Florida. In 2009, Lowry Park Zoo was voted the #1 Family Friendly Zoo in the US by Parents Magazine, and is recognized by the State of Florida as the center for Florida wildlife conservation and biodiversity (HB 457).
The zoo is operated by the Lowry Park Zoological Society, an independent 501(c)(3) charitable organization. The zoo also exists as a center for conservation of endangered wildlife both locally and around the globe.
Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) as well as a member of the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA), Conservation Breeding Specialist Group (CBSG), the Florida Association of Zoos and Aquariums (FAZA) and the Florida Attractions Association (FAA).
**Exhibits**
Asian Gardens:
One of the zoos oldest sections, the Asian Domain, was renovated and renamed the Asian Gardens in 2007. Exhibits there include Indian rhinoceros, Malayan tigers, babirusa, Komodo dragon, clouded leopards, sloth bears, and an Indonesian-themed aviary. The pagoda-like design is subtle but noticeable, giving an authentic Asian feel.
The area also has a Sulawesi aviary, which includes bleeding-heart doves, mandarin ducks, giant Asian pond turtles and Reeve's muntjac deer.
Florida Wildlife Center:
The Florida Wildlife Center is an American-based exhibit that stretches across nearly a half-mile, accessible through Asian Gardens. The exhibit includes many North American species and a few Central American species, including striped skunks, Orinoco crocodiles, North American black bears, a small pack of red wolves, West Indian manatees, and alligator snapping turtles.
It also includes a manatee education show, an aquatic center with sharks, eels, seahorses, and a wide collection of snakes, including eastern diamondback rattlesnakes, copperheads, and eastern coral snakes. A Discovery Center highlights the amphibian residents of the zoo, showcasing various species of frogs, toads and other creatures.
Primate World:
The primate section of the zoo is possibly the best designed portion of the zoo[citation needed], with every exhibit seemingly being connected by a running system of rocky waterfalls and waterways that stretch across the entire section. There is an array of great apes in the siamang gibbons, chimpanzees and Bornean orangutans that swing and hoot around their exhibits. There is also a wide array of other primates, including Angolan black-and-white colobus monkeys, golden lion tamarins, ring-tailed lemurs and mandrills.
Wallaroo Station:
The Wallaroo Station Children's Zoo re-opened on February 27, 2015 after its first renovation since opening in 2002. It is home to an array of Australian-native species including koalas, yellow-footed rock wallabies, Australian singing dogs and emus, along with a varying collection of cockatoo parrots, and flying fox bats.
This section of the zoo is home to an interactive bat habitat, a "Flying Bananas" ride, a budgie encounter and a family rollercoaster. It also has splash play area for younger kids titled "The Billabong".
Safari Africa:
The latest addition to Lowry, providing a completely authentic African experience.[dubious - discuss] Shaded by acacia trees, the area is home to a safari tram ride that provides an in-depth look behind the scenes of the zoo. Martial eagles and Patas monkeys are visible only by this ride. This exhibit is home to many landmark African species, including meerkats, duikers, Reticulated giraffes, zebras, African elephants, East African crowned cranes, African penguins and southern white rhinoceroses.
The Ituri Forest, a later addition to the Safari Africa section, brought in the concept of a washed-out African river bank. The area includes a wide array of species, including greater flamingos, pygmy hippopotamuses, saddle-billed storks and shoebill storks.
In mid-to late 2014, the warthog exhibit was closed down and renovated to house Aldabra tortoises and juvenile Galapagos giant tortoises, who were previously behind-the-scenes exclusive animals.
Main Aviary:
The main free-flight aviary, accessible nearly at the entrance, is almost hidden in overgrown brush and plants, giving the feel of a wild experience.[citation needed] Inside, the whole area is covered head-to-toe in free-flight birds and waterfowl, including great hornbills, red-legged seriemas, toco toucans, scarlet ibises, white-faced whistling ducks, guineafowl, Raggiana Birds-of-paradise and an array of ducks and tanagers.[citation needed] Every so often, if you hang around, you can observe two-toed sloths lazily hanging in the trees.

I grew up in Tampa and I remember this zoo was more of a picnic park than a zoo. I'm glad it evolved into a full zoo for the kids.
Zoo Tampa formally known as Lowry Park Zoo has changed 100% for the better. When I was very young I didn't quite understand just how bad the original zoo was. I remember Storybook Land and the amusement park rides where something to look forward too. I am happy the zoo has continued to grow and change for the better.
I'm going to the zoo tamp kids😮😮😮😮😮😮😊😊😊
I'm gald😮😮😮😮😮😅😮😮
I had a lot of fun at Tampa zoo. I got a chance to get the assistant feeding my monkeys which was adorable and straight up funny. 10/10 would do again and again and again
This is my "Home" zoo. I have been going here since I was a kid. It's grown and changed so much over the years. It was once one of the worst zoos but now it's been rated a top zoo for families for years. I'm glad you had a great time there.
I'm visiting Florida and this is where I'm going tomorrow
I hope you have a great time, it's a fun zoo to visit.
I will be there around the 3rd of April, so thank you for letting me know what to expect
That's great, I hope you enjoy your visit. I always try to show everything on my tour's.
I'm going for my birthday cant wait! (Getting annual passes to!)
Awesome, I hope you have a great time. Happy Birthday 😁
You couldn't see clouded leopard in Brookfield zoo and here you got to see it

A very fun zoo to visit. I've been going since I was very young.
This was very good. Now it’s called Zoo Tampa And it has a log flume
The name change was after my visit. I do plan to go back and show the stuff that wasn't open at the time. I am looking forward to a ride on the log flume.
One other place I’d suggest you visit is called Giraffe Ranch In Dade City
@@ejgrunch I'll look into it, thanks for the suggestion.
Been going to Florida 50 times love this zoo been many times, I petted one of the Peguins one time also also bite me it was alright , when the Penguins came over
It's a fantastic zoo, I've seen it grow and improve so much over the years. BTW, Thursday will be part one of an all new full tour of the zoo.
Man I'm 11 and like doing the animal encounters zoo Tampa has
They have several that I'd like to do someday
Yeah I did every single one already except for the koala
Very nice 😃
The best part about zoo Tampa is two things first it's they have three different types of duikers they have the bay duiker the blue duiker and the yellow 🟡 backed duiker but the real reason I liked it so much is because zoo Tampa has the rare shoebill it's a very rare animal to see in United States zoos
Good video
This is my home zoo, closets to my home.
It’s been like 10 years since I’ve been to a zoo
Well now you can say you've been to a zoo today 😁
Does this place has toco toucan
Yes, you'll find them in the main aviary to the right if the main entrance.
at 3:07 , that leopard is a clouded leopard
Thanks for identifying the type of leopard and for including the time stamp.
@@TomsRoadTrippin no problem
So there is a lone Guinea-fowl that roams our neighborhood here in Mobile, Alabama. I know that Guineafowl aren't native to the USA, so I was wondering if he was someone's pet or not. If so, they just let him loose. He roams our neighborhood and walks and runs around wherever he wants to so my mom and I, whenever we go out driving we have to make sure he is not on our driveway so we don't accidentally run over him. We have given him a name: Big Bird. We won't call animal control on him, because they might take him somewhere where they will kill him (like to a high-kill shelter) and we don't want that.
I occasionally see guinea fowl roaming around different areas I've been through. It's possible they once belonged to someone.
