Dear Johanna, did you know, that the handwriting in the book is German? As far as I could tell it talks about the book being a Christmas gift for a "dear, little" person called Lilo, a peaceful Christmas, upcoming better times and contemplative hours. What a journey the book must have had now being yours and being turned into a sketchbook. Greetings from Germany, Carolin
For anyone new to creating books like this your instructions were so clear and easy to understand. You say you have done this so many times, but how thoughtful for you to do it once again for anyone new to your channel. The books you showed were gorgeous, and I have to pop into my local town tomorrow so I'm going to try and pick one up from a charity shop. You have encouraged me through this to stretch myself creatively through sketching, which in all honesty I'm not great at 😬 but I'm happy to try. Bless you Johanna x
I love how you tore the pages to make them fit into the book cover. It gives the book a nice look. You're a great teacher; you make everything look so easy. Thank you for sharing your talents with us.
I have like 1000 + Readers Digest books...they are so beautiful so I just use them everywhere around my house. I'm thinking i may use a few for sketchbooks. Why do I have so many Readers Digest?? My son worked at a homeless shelter that had so many books they let us take them for free. Great idea Johanna!!! love your channel and your voice!!☺
What I love with your tutorials is there’s no complicated math involved 😅 you make it clear and digestible, great teaching skills! Thank you for continuing to share your tips and tricks! ❤ Ps: currently working for a local shop, on a collection of very similar journals and notebooks, from old book covers ( the red ones with gold embossing are ubiquitous in France), using this simple pamphlet stitch which I learned from you ! So thank you from the bottom of my heart❤️
Hi, I'm a first-timer here! Loved this video. I've never made a sketchbook, but have bound junk journals. This was a great overview -- just what I was looking for. I didn't need a great deal of detail. This was perfect.
Awesome tutorial from a fellow Aussie ❤ a tip from someone who makes and uses these... don't be tempted to put too many signatures in your book. By the time, you've added collage and paint, the book will become overstuffed quickly. Secondly, irs great to add some random painted paper in your art journal, it breaks up the dreaded white page ❤
Dearest Johanna, I could watch you make journals all day on you channel!!! I love it!!! It just reinforces the procedure!!! Thank you for sharing!!! ♥️♥️🥰🥰🌺🌺
This process was so much easier..i remember stitching small pieces of paper together the same way as you did with individual section of pages....as a kid. combining page section was such a great idea
Thank you, Johanna, for being patient enough to go thru the process again. I've yet to make a more than one signature book. Now I see one of my problems is I put too many papers in a signature. Lol. I get befuddled on how to reinforce the spine. I used a shipping tape then the material. I see now I could have saved my tape. Lol Thank you, sweet girl, for this video. 💖
Thank you, i’m glad you enjoyed it anyway! I knew most of you would know these steps by now, I still really like showing the different outcomes you can get with the same steps ♥️
Thank you so much for this inspiring idea! The book cover is so beautiful. I was wondering, do you know of and/or could you show us how to bind it without sewing through the spine?
Happy is the day when I see you released a new video. I never get tired of your videos as I watch them over and over. Lol. So no worries if you repeat yourself. Lol
@@JohannaClough how you line up the piece paper to put the holes in the signatures! It makes it easier to get the awl through the center seam of all the papers in the signature!
I really like your repurpose of an old book cover to art journal. I would love to see how you would repurpose an old book to journal or art journal without gutting the book. Curious.
oh myyyy dear johanna😮😮😮🥹 the sketchbooks looks with pink binding and black mechanical binding and the brown sketchbook paper…which you reuse… and cut.. they look like that ones i send to you loong loong ago …remeber? from switzerland far away☺️ i still watch all your videos and love what you create❤❤❤ so nice to see you using them for this cool tutorial… much love from switzerland take care lovely xoxo faithy😘
@@faithykam9605 yes Faithy!! They were from you i never forgot 🥰 and i figured i may aswell use the paper up a bit better!♥️ The book cover is german, I got it from my friend Caylee who lives in Germany 🥰♥️
So pretty! And how awesome (for me at least) that the book is German and made the long way down to you! In case you are wondering what the title says: "The burning bush". It's a novel writen by a Scandinavian (Danish) female (Nobel Prized) author and the book seems to be from 1930! How awesome (I mean it survived the 2nd world war and is in such a good condition! What a double treasure you found and made out of it! ). The story is about a man and his faith. I also have tried to figure out what words were written on the inner back cover... so in case someone is interested in: - Meiner lieben kleinen Lilo mit dem Wunsch eines friedlichen Weihnachtsfestes und kommender besserer Zeiten für besinnliche Stunden zugeeignet von Ihrer Toni Kriegsweihnachten 1944 - Dedicated to my dear little Lilo with the wish of a peaceful Christmas and better times to come for contemplative hours from your Toni War Christmas 1944 - Lots of greetings from (Nothern) Germany! Lucia
When I make these in this process...the spine area gets wobbly...and if I tighten it, then it doesn’t open fully...you held your journal closed the entire time. Can you please make a video where you work on it in real time and show us how to make the spine flexible but also strong?
It's so hard for me to see a book's pages torn out. I started folding book pages to transform them so if ever needed, the pages can simply be unfolded. To me, it's like destroying a part of history ... No matter how mundane the subject matter. 😢
the fact that she’s been filming these videos for years and still has the patience to explain everything in such detail is so sweet ❤🇧🇷

I knew it was German but I didn’t know what it said, thank you! How sweet ♥️
you have sharp eyes! Or a better resolution than my laptop. The contemplative hours make sense, it seems to be a book about the burning bush

I love that you used so many different types of paper, that's a great idea 😊
It makes me feel so much more relaxed to use it!
I get it all the time. I need more tutorials about attaching my art.
Thanks for the great idea for using old book covers and lots of plain paper. I might try doing a color theme.

You make everything look so easy. ❤
Thank you! This really is easy especially once you do it a few times ♥️
I love how simple this art journal came out with all types of papers! 💖🦋
Great little tutorial. I love the cover and the different papers you chose.
So very awesome! I have not made them 5 signatures but I may give it a go…
Love the different paper types. Beautiful cover! 💕

Love that. Looks really nice. Thanks for sharing 😊
Thank you...this was so clear...I am always looking for ways to bind the books.
You make this look so easy. I will definitely have to try this method. Thank you for the tutorial.
Great video, Johanna! Looking forward to your art work.
I've reinforced with Tyvek before, but the fabric is a much nicer idea, plus I have tons of scraps. Thanks for the idea!
I already knew how to do this because of your channel, but I enjoy watching your videos! Really beautiful book!

I love this!!! Easy to follow and you made something that seems impossible easily possible ❤
So happy that I discovered your channel, your videos are so easy to follow
What a fun idea! I cannot wait to see your artwork in this beautiful sketchbook! 💛
Thank you!! I’m having fun in it already 🥰
I rarely comment on videos but this was IMPRESSIVE
Thank you so much for this inspiring idea! The book cover is so beautiful. I was wondering, do you know of and/or could you show us how to bind it without sewing through the spine?
So cute, love the book cover, so pretty!
Do you use the regular school glue? I love the way you do the binding template. I will do that. Thank you!

Aww well thank you, that’s so kind, I definitely do repeat myself a bit around here haha ♥️
I love this idea Thank you for sharing! 💜
Thank you for sharing your process..................................😻
I love this tutorial, thank you! Would you ever make a tutorial where you use an old book cover, but you hide the stitching inside it?
I am always so excited to watch your videos and even though I have known how to do this for a while I still learned a new trick!
Awesome! Which trick was it?? ♥️
@@JohannaClough how you line up the piece paper to put the holes in the signatures! It makes it easier to get the awl through the center seam of all the papers in the signature!
I like the tearing idea.
Is there a reason why you didn't use the first page as a template for the rest?
Thx so much for explaining.
I really like your repurpose of an old book cover to art journal.
I would love to see how you would repurpose an old book to journal or art journal without gutting the book. Curious.
As a former librarian, I love this!! Too many books in landfills. Thanks!
Nice 🎉. You make it so easy
🎉
I like this little art journal. No need to buy one any more.
Thank you Johanna!
I love this! ❤
Wow, that Heidi book. I wonder how old it is?! ❤ I still have mine wich is the original one after the film came out (1952)
I’ll have to check again, it is really pretty!
Thanks for the tips!

Thank you for translating and giving some of the book info! ❤
@@haleymist09 🤗❤ You're welcome!
Great idea.
Where do you buy the books from? Thanks in advance 😊
What kind of glue do you use?
Love it💕
If you use a squared page for the template it's going to be easier, no need to measure.
How do you make your pages lye flat when they're bound? Mine just stand right up and make it so difficult to write on
Hmm, make sure you don’t over fill your book/signatures, it could also just be because the book is newly made and it might flatten out as you go
very cool
I am subscribed for sure like you simple beautiful ideas ✂🙎🏻♀gisele

I’m not sure what you mean by wobbly? I’ve used this book already and it lays flat 🥰
Is there any way I can share my problem with you? Via mail or insta or Facebook... Where I can send you a video?

The poor spine of the book😭
Ever tried making a hidden spine?
