I recently got into junk journaling and watched tons of videos from different channels, but, your projects and videos are always the easiest to follow. Thank you for this video tutorial, it's extremely helpful for beginners like me.

I agree, however there are plenty of people who don’t want that level of learning. (I’ve talked to several) Sometimes, they don’t want the complexity. I agree with you, however, because there are some good book binding techniques she brings into her junk journal creations. I use some of them myself.

Great ideas here, even for seasoned book makers. I like how you put fewer pages into each signature, the headbands, using fabric in the spine, and your method to sew in signatures. Food for thought! So generous of you to share these concepts, thank you!

I've watched and saved hundreds of so called altered book videos but I must say I always refer to yours. I love your sense of humor and your patience in explaining what you are doing. BTW all the other videos have been deleted and only yours are kept on hand for fast reference! What a relief it is to clean out the computer!!! You certainly should be called the queen of bookmaking

I’ve been making junk journals for about a year now. I learned so much from your video. I was struggling with the number of signatures and using an odd number makes so much sense in making the math turn out right. Also I couldn’t figure out how to not have the stitching go through the spine. Thank you! Thank you!

I am so happy I found this. I have a beautiful leather travel journal that is a joy to use, but at the end of a trip, something needs to be done with the trip journal for permanent storage as I need the journal cover for another trip someday, and as an everyday notebook the rest of the time. This is the perfect way to bind the signatures from my journal - they already have the exact right holes in place and are perfectly set up to be bound. I put an enormous amount of effort into my travel journals, and they deserve a permanent binding that will keep them safe, but also reflect the style and aesthetic of the journal. You have made this to be so clear and easy to follow, I’m looking forward to binding my next journal. So now I will be stripping the journal from its leather cover at the end of a trip without a sense of loss and regret, rather a sense of pleasure at giving it a fabulous permanent home.

I’ve made several journals, but so much to learn …
LOVE the ideas of the fabric backed spine (adds strength)
Love the headers also - not only do they cover the paper edges, but they protect them as well.
GENIOUS hack with the paper clip.
I DO like the stitching showing through on the spines, reinforces the fact that it’s been altered, BUT, now I’m liking the hidden stitching idea ❤️❤️❤️
(P.S. I love that you show the thickness of the outer spine vs. the outer part of the book being thinner, allowing room for all kind of layers of things inside without the journal bulging out … I don’t understand why companies like Dylusions CONTINUES to make their books square. After my first journal ended up bulging out, even before I finished, all my other journals are different … I actually take out the center piece of almost every signature before I even start p, and when I’m done, it’s perfect. PLUS … I use those pages to make my OWN journal with those 6 ring mini binders - my daughter prefers the loose leaf pages. I DO like the construction of their journals but by the time i’m done altering them to suit ME, I could have made my own)

I've learned so much from this video. I always struggled to sew in the signatures onto the actual spine. How much easier it will be to use a piece of fabric and card and sew it outside of the spine and then glue it in! Duuurrrr how stupid of me not to have thought of this before. Now hopefully I won't stab myself or swear half as much! Thanks Nik, loved this refresher video so much. You're a star! Xxxxxxxx
