@@chadpittman3025 Dude, just fuck off, people are allowed to have their own (perfectly valid) opinions. Coming onto a bands video just to shit on them is truly pathetic
Grew up in the 80's, I wasn't a huge fan of 90s music, then I saw Creed with Collective Soul live, and I really enjoyed Collective Soul...my wife was a big Creed fan, but Collective Soul was very impressive. They worked the crowd, and their songs were very deep too.
My brother introduced me to this band in 1996 when I was about 12 years of age, and fell in love with them instantly. This is forever, how they will look in my mind.
My favorite band of that era. Great songs, and Ross Childress was just about the only guitarist in a high profile band in the 90s who was still flying the flag for shred guitar, though he rarely showed it within the context of CS.
Speaking of guitarists, this footage of CS annoys me because the camera spends more time on Dean than Ross. Dean was a fifth wheel in the band, only there because he's Ed's brother. He didn't write anything, his playing is buried in the mix (sometimes he's straight up miming playing) and he doesn't even provide backing vocals. It wouldn't surprise me if he didn't play on any of the recordings.
***** I don't know if you are aware of it but Dean Roland has his own band and sings very well and in my opinion plays guitar very well too and oh yeah helps write the songs for his band Magnets & Ghosts. Just thought I would share that with you.

Collective Soul was definitely a part of the soundtrack of the 90s where raw riff rock made a huge comeback and took a giant leap forward. We desperately need another decade like the 90s again. I'm so glad I experienced it in my 20s and in the prime of my youth. What a great time it was.
Without Ross Childress CS has no longer "S" on their music and performance. Great show, one of the greatest rock bands back on the 90's. Lead guitar was flying all around the stage!
It is all about Ed's songs and his riffs he created. Yes Ross did a great job playing Ed's songs, but try and find anything by Ross in the last 20 years on youtube that you can go past 15 seconds of listening to. It is rather amazing how bad Ross has been after Collective Soul.
I love this band, heavy at times but also have great melodic songs as well. What's up with the bass though? You can't even hear it. I hate when bands kind of like "hide" the bass sound. I love it when bands embrace the bass and make it up front and part of the song.

After learning the way they play the G chord in "December" (with the extra finger on the 3rd fret of the B-string), I've played it that way ever since. It gives it such a beautiful richness.
Thats the way I learned it from the start. Sounds beautiful and full. I always have the attitude to learn anything on guitar the harder way because then it gets easier as you explore all the other ways.
I think Ed Roland is a under rated song writer. No, the most underrated song writer, as they are probably also the most underrated band, of the 90's for sure. They became my favorite band for the 90's but I have to admit, I didn't, in the beginning know many of the songs of there's played on the radio was even them. Until I started to seriously investigate and buying their albums. I used to get them and candlebox mixed up big time when they both had come out about the same time. And to this day and back then every person I ask when one of their songs come on if they know who it is, not one person knew but they always said they really liked whatever song it was
