I only became aware of the incredible Vera-Ellen this last December when my wife "made" me watch White Christmas. From the first moment she appeared on screen, I was mesmerized. Such beauty, such grace, such athleticism. And her amazing beauty... how a woman can appear so sweetly vulnerable and so fiery hot at the same time is astounding. Her genuine personality comes through when she is dancing. Watch her facial expressions in any of her numbers and you will see what I mean. None of her peers and no one since can match her. Thank you for this truly lovely and fitting tribute.
I cannot believe that 4 people have thumbed down this tribute to Vera-Ellen. Not only was she one of the greatest ever Hollywood dancers, she was also a great beauty with one of the best pairs of legs I ever saw in my life. Personally I love this tribute to bits & have watched it many, many times. I bet Vera-Ellen would have loved it too!.
@@tubeMonger yeah, maybe they thought a tribute to her dancing should include some footage of her actually dancing, who knows. you can't please everyone, and we all have opinions.
@@tubeMonger I don't think that the thumbs down were necessarily for Vera Ellen, who is incredibly talented and just lovely, beautiful, sharp-witted according to those who worked with her, etc. I've seen this sort of phenomenon with videos about sad subjects, people don't know whether to thumbs down because they hated that the tragedy happened or thumbs up for the video educating people about it, etc. so who knows why someone else thumbs up or down a video. thumbs up from me!
I just watched this tribute to Vera Ellen, and it brought tears to my eyes... she was so young when she died. I have admired her dancing ever since I was a little girl. The days of being able to act, dance and sing are all in the past... now actresses are cheap and no talent. Rest in Peace Vera, your fans still adore you!
A very nice tribute. Vera was one VERY CLASSY and beautiful dancer. Probably the most athletic of all female dancers of her generation. Yet she was so petite ! So sweet ! greatly missed by those who appreciate that kind of talent and dedication to her art and craft.
A beautiful lady, with an amazing talent of dancing and singing. I will always remember her with fond Memories of White Christmas and the joy she and the entire cast brought our Family.
A warm sweet touching tribute to a Charming adorable enchanting beauty. Miss Vera Ellen. The best talented musical dancer to ever grazd the screen. This touch my heart made me teary eyed. To think she had so much more to offer and her life was cut short with a sad ending. But her legacy lives on. Watching her dance is pure gold. Brings joy and delight. Is a privilege to see her on screen make her dance moves. She made it look easy. She will never be forgotten. Thanks so much for sharing. I wish I was born in this time. The best time to live in. :*
I believe this is one of the most under rated actress/dancer in history. I was fascinated with her the first time I saw perform. I never lost the fascination. You have done an excellent tribute to her . I know she would very pleased. I watch on a regular bases. Thank you for doing this.
One of the most amazingly talented dancers with or without a dance partner. She lit up the screen of every movie she made....always a delight to watch. Great video.
Absolutely wonderful tribute. I've always thought Vera-Ellen never received the recognition she deserved. I have always loved watching her dance, so free and so beautiful. Always such a joy to watch. Your tribute was just that, a wonderful tribute. Thank You.
Vera-Ellen, only the best dancer EVER!! I was a dancer and should know. She could dance in many styles, alone or partner. I wish more people would know about her. Thank you, zeeandco
the only film I have ever seen her in was "White Christmas" and am floored at her incredible dancing talent, I cannot imagine what commitment it took for those who dance like her to Practice hours daily for years and end up in one of this Globe's best films ever.
Thank you very much for this... She deserves it for what she gave "us". The movies she starred in are CLASSICS and a symbol of what having CLASS used to mean! props to you for your efforts!
As others have commented before me, I watched White Christmas and just HAD to look-up Vera-Ellen. What a star! Also, have another look at White Christmas and you can pick-out a young George Chakiris of West Side Story fame dancing with Rosemary Clooney in her NY solo number!
Vera-Ellen was always my favorite Song & Dance routine gal...moreso than Cyd Charisse or Ginger Rogers! I never knew she passed at age 60...way too soon! Cute as a button, talented, and in my opinion the very best of the dancing girls of all time!
Simply had to watch it again and again, because I just read that biography about her... she was - if this is all true - very often treated like some second class starlet by the studio (and had at times a traumatic personal life). Pity she didn't get the status she would have deserved. I'm really glad about that tribute! She was terrific!
Brian Pawson thank you!!!!! I always LOVE getting comments, especially this time of year when everyone is watching V-E at her best in White Christmas! ❤️
This was indeed long overdue! I have always been a Vera-Ellen fan... she was great! (I particularly love her Slaughter On 10th Avenue dance with Gene Kelly)
vitality, skill and beauty, that lady had it all, and thanks to the MGM dream factory, wonderful music, a golden era for musicals, thanks for assembling Vera Ellen memories, oh and by the way have a look at her in "On the town", she had great legs!
There is indeed something magical and tragic about her. Her dancing was incredible, and she just had a presence about her that is the stuff of "stars." The tragedy of her child and being out of the public's eye is simply tragic. She had her moments which is more than many can say, so I am sure her should rests easy. Nice job Diana!
Amazing, i feel bad, first time really knowing who she is before xmas, and watching white xmas for the first time. she is amazing to think how she dances now over 60 years later!!! amazing, i am going to find her other movies.thank u so much for posting this video diana
I grew up watching this movie and have loved the era and everything about it since. A truly magical time for Hollywood with fantastic talent. Imagine a movie without sex, nudity or profanity! Vera Ellen was an amazing talented dancer who never received the recognition she deserved. Has anyone else ever thought this..... I think they fashioned the Barbie doll after her. Take a look at her dresses, hair etc... then look at the Barbie doll from the early1960s. Lastly, that is Desi Arnez in frame 1:34 not Ricardo Montalban or Rock Hudson. Merry Christmas!!
My favourite actress of all time! Thank You Diana for posting this on UA-cam, it has brought such joy to me and I still wish she was with us some 34 years on. I thought I was the only one in love with her but so glad so is loved the world over.
That was absolutely beautiful, brilliantly edited and put together with passion and dedication to an extremely beautiful lady, dancer, ansd actress... I concur that had she been alive today, she would have been honoured and feel an immense sense of achievement to see her life put together with such an incredible soundtrack.. Touche" Di ... Give yourself a pat on the back for a great job well done :-) P.S I think she was a wonderful dancer and an inspiring actress and the woman was gorgeous to say the least...
She was so amazing! IMO definitely underrated, definitely not given the credit she's deserved. Her dancing just seemed ahead of it's time, ahead of the other dancers of that day, & she just seemed more athletic than the other female dancers of that day, like her legs just seemed more muscular, even as small as she was.
My classic professor is the one who wrote the bio that you mentioned in the video. David Soren(university of arizona), he cried every time he give a lecture on her. She was great. Beautiful video.
really guys... THANK YOU for watching this video, rating it, favoring it, etc. I know Vera-Ellen would be happy to know she still has people who appreciate her dedication to dance. She was a real gem. I hope you all got to see White Christmas on ABC Family last night... newly restored and Vera-Ellen never looked better in it!! Merry Christmas everyone!
A great tribute to such a lovely person well done indeed. I agree with you entirely any information about her life is very scarce. The book ' The Magic & the Mystery Vera-Ellen' by David Soren is the only informative book i know that has been written about her. She certainly deserves much much more. Thanks for posting 5*****
That was absolutely beautiful!!! It's a very sad video, in a way... I'll always love Vera, and miss her deeply. Where did you get all of those amazing pictures? I'll probably watch this 50 more times!
Thank you for this. Back in 1953, studios still sent their stars around for publicity. Vera Allen along with Phillip Reed and Judith Braun (later changed her name back to Rosmary Forsythe) all came to our little town of Camride Springs, PA and visited our schools. Vera, in my opinion) never got the credit she deserved. She was always a favorite and never appeared in a flop.....she was a real STAR. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Great tribute with a wonderful song. Very thoughful. I found this video after watching "White Christmas" again today. I wanted to find out more about the cast. Thanks for posting this.
Perhaps she wasn't the "greatest female dancer in musicals" but I'd be willing to bet she was the most dedicated, well-rounded performer. She knew EVERY type of dance and was even quite skilled in acrobatics. Read her biography by David Soren if anyone's interested. :)
Thank you, Di. Somehow, I only recently discovered Vera on TCM. So amazing, her dance, and beautiful as well. Thanks again, for your beautiful tribute here.
Im from the PHILIPPINES.... i just watch here movie On The Town.... and i was amaze how good her dancing skills, the lovely cute smile i was fall in love. so i came accross to look her bio over the net and i learn a lot about her and its colorfull so to speak.... i wish when the day i died and reincarnate somehow then i would like to be On The Town and be her sailor man in true life. i was fall in love with her she's amazing.
"White Christmas" was released about the time I was born, and I hadn't paid much attention to it over the years until now. I saw it tonight and was captivated by Vera-Ellen. What a talent! She is most certainly my favorite dancer on screen of all time. The Mandy and Abraham dance scenes are incredible.
"White Christmas". Vera 'had' me, when I was around 4 or 5 years-old from the moment she cocked her head and raised an eyebrow. I was, and remain, enraptured. Too soon departed from our midst.
Vera Ellen was not "too thin" people, she had a terrible eating disorder. If you pay attention, you'd notice her neck was not exposed once in White Christmas to mask the signs of Anorexia, I've always found it heartbreaking that someone so beloved had no one to step in to get her help. She was such a magnificent talent, I do find all the comments about her not being better known a bit odd, anyone old enough to remember her knew who she was, she performed with the biggest names in the world. There are hundreds of thousands of performers who never made it to her heights....
Hello, I know it's been awhile but would you happen to remember the artist and song name of the music you used for this wonderful tribute? Thank you!!!
Vera reminds me of the first female attraction I had her face was so familiar her smile her eyes even her name I was Auu struck and could not remove my eyes and mind from thinking and looking at her . This attraction was in nursery school believe it or not .

Frank Scivier there may be a number of reasons for a thumb down. Music, low quality video etc...

Utterly gorgeous and a perfect dancer! Passed on too early for her years but never forgotten as long as White Christmas is remembered 😍

Love the song and the woman who inspired it. Vera Ellen is dancing in heaven.

When I feel down and alone I take my daily dose of Vera Ellen ...--...great combination Vera with this music EXCELLENT
When this woman danced - you just fell in love with her. What more can I say.

Fell head over heels for her in white Christmas. And man did I ever wish I had been a dancer LOVE Vera

AWSOME video,,,,, wow,,, Vera had such grace and passion.
Brian Pawson thank you!!!!! I always LOVE getting comments, especially this time of year when everyone is watching V-E at her best in White Christmas! ❤️
I loved watching her dance. Gene Kelly called her "the best all-around dancer in movies."
Thanks for watching!! 😃
Thank you for this lovely tribute to a great dancer and lady. She died too young and endured great sadness.

Loved her. My favorite movie she is in is: On the Town. What dancer and she was absolutely stunning.
Extremely talented and very beautifull, wish she would be with us longer and make more of what she was best at
a great beauty and a great dancer

The Highland theater in London Ontario plays White Christmas every year and I keep going back. To watch her dance on the big screen is amazing.

And could she high kick. So effortlessly.
my great great aunt is vera-ellen!
Your great aunt was a beauty and a patriot.
Not possible tho?
Vera Ellen had no siblings. Meaning there is no way she is your great great aunt
My classic professor is the one who wrote the bio that you mentioned in the video. David Soren(university of arizona), he cried every time he give a lecture on her. She was great. Beautiful video.
Thanks Diana C!!! What a wonderful tribute to an immortal true artist.
Whether she was your great great Aunt or not, she was exceedingly beautiful. And a terrific dancer.
Vera-Ellen to me not only she was beautiful dancer but she also was a very beautiful woman
What a Beautiful tribute to such a Beautiful actress!!
A great dancer. The tiniest waist I have ever seen. I loved her in White Christmas...my favorite Christmas movie ❤.

Just started researching this actress/dancer today. Nice coordination and agility. Thanks for posting!
Well done!
If anyone gave this a thumbs down, then they have no class.
Keep all the others Vera Ellen was the TOPS.
Thank you all so much for the amazing comments! I appreciate them very much!

This was done really well, thank you.
Not just a good dancer but an excellent actress too! Her seduction scene in White Christmas with Danny Kaye has to be one of the great comedy moments!
The last flim you mentioned, 'Let's Be Happy' was released on DVD in September! It is on Amazon.
thank you!!!
It was her face, her smile, her eyes that stole my heart. You could have run it more slowly, and let her face show there, for a bit longer.
Lovely! Really nicely put together, thanks for posting :-)
thank you!
the most beautiful girl in the world
The song is called "Time" by chantal kreviazuk :)
She does have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Here is the information. Vera-Ellen Motion pictures 7083 Hollywood Blvd
In White Christmas look at how she looks right at the camera during The Best Things Happen When Were Dancing,
She is just one of the reasons I can't bear to watch amateurs singing and dancing in films like "La-la Land."
Peter Piper I agree.
Thank You!!
I love Miss Turnstile!
I'm sure if she was still alive, she would appreciate this.
Wow.
@Hotwok191 Thanks so much!! I'm quite fond of it myself! :) I really love V-E... she was a very sweet, talented wonderful lady!
Very well done wasn't she amazing
