Jeff, I really love your videos. Your explanations and demonstrations are very well executed and easy to understand. Your soft voice was 'made' for voice-overs. You are not rushed and speak very clearly. Stolen Device Protection can, at first, be confusing or at least it was for me. I do not use Significant Locations and don't really want to start now. I wondered if SDP would still work. Now I know it will. I change my password etc so infrequently, waiting 60 minutes isn't a big deal for me at least. Your explanation was exemplary. Thank you.
Thanks Jeff. Excellent explanation.
you always explain better then every body else
The best thing about this update was that wallpaper❤ i have it set in green and it looks amazing❤
Excellent
Thank you Jeff! You explain and demonstrate everything so clearly it makes life less difficult for people like me. Keep up the great work my friend. 👍
The Screentime Feature seems to be the much better protection for stolen device to me. You can easily add another layer of protection with a second passkey that is different from the phone passkey to prevent changes to "Passcode Changes" and "Account Changes". Regardless of location.
This is talked about enough.
Thanks for sharing. Blessings on your day!
Thank you Jeff! ❤
Is this video in HDR?
Because its so bright 😮
Yes
Very nicely and deeply explained about the Significant location.
The best explanation , great job
Wonderful video thank you.
Cool 😎
If I’d have found this video earlier today it’d have saved a call to 🇬🇧 Apple Support re: Stolen Device Protection & System Svc! Apple tech were super helpful & learnt something new too. Thank you for great & helpful explanation.
Can the airplay thing be done with any smart tv or just for the hotel ones?
I’m still confused about the device protection. Thanks Jeff another great video 😊
Sorry, maybe I didn’t explain well enough, anything I can assist with?
Ok, let's suppose Stolen Device Protection is on and this will give me time to change my passwords from a computer, like a PC, how am I gonna do that, when from time to time, when I log into my icloud, I would need to authenticate it using my device? In the end I'm not sure this would be helpful at all. I would need to have a macbook, I'm assuming.
Do you use any application to "go back" in an application with the swipe gestures in the corners? It reminded me of Android gestures
Thanks Ducky lol
I'm assuming SDP comes at the cost of battery drain? So whenever significant location and SDP both are turned on, will it be constantly checking if the phone is within significant location OR only at the time of accessing critical SDP related data?
After i enabled thieves protection.. face ID and passcode has disappeared from sittings and i can't enter to Icloud .. how to get access to them again??
Its not working in my iphone14pro max.. I try turning it on then blurring face id if it really works but not
Great explanation. Disabling significant locations is a must or Stolen Device Protection feels basically useless.
Thanks for explaining so well how Stolen Device Protection works!
No problem, and thanks for watching!
after updating 17.3 my face id /passcode option has gone why ?
Is there a way to edit significant locations? I know I can clear them, but there are just some I want to get rid of without wiping the history. It seems to me that the Park is an especially bad location to retain, given the security concerns.
help me to turn off stollen device protection, face id option disappeared from the settings menu
What happens if the Face ID connector is disconnected while stolen device protection is on?
Maybe I missed it in the video but how can I add familiar location? I’m moving recently
Can I extend the security delay to 9 hours?? It just feel like 1 hour ain’t enough
My Face ID not working after enable this option I try to delate my phone but I can’t
So is Apple assuming your phone can't be jacked at work or near your home? That's seems like another problem. The simplest thing would have been to never allow passcode fallback for critical features in the first place. I mean, how often would you change those settings like password, find my, etc. ?
Thank you always for your great videos.
I don't know why but this video looks HDR washed out on my MacBook Pro M1 Max
What if my face id is registered by my face but it is damaged atm and it shows face id logo and pops off
After I reset my phone the widget for reminders app is gone. Anyone help?
cant save in pdf to dropbox
I down loaded 17.3 but didn't get the stolen device protection on my iphone 15 pro max
What’s the procedure for the iPad? “Stolen Device Protection” is not showing up! Is it because the device is too old?
I have an iPad Air 5 which is the newest. I can check this for you if I remember to
Can’t find faceid and passcode button
My account has been hacked when i just updated my phone 17.3 lately. It says i have Apple Purchase since i never even purchase anything. Does anybody also have problem like this?
Jeff,
Is the device protection feature supported on phones with Touch ID? I have an SE2, which supports 17.3 but doesn’t, of course, have Face ID.
Yes, either 👍🏽
I do not have a fixed "Work" location, yet all of these services enjoy assuming a location to call "Work" for me. Google does it, Apple does it... only now it hinders a security feature. So I went and changed Stolen Device Protection to "Always" and not go by specific locations. I'll deal with the added inconvenience, guess I don't have much other choice. EDIT: I had TWO HUNDRED and THIRTY significant locations, according to iOS. I'm sorry but I literally do not have a tenth of that many "significant" locations in my brain. Not sure what my phone is wanting to do.
@9:40 only thing there is I DO NOT join public wifi networks.
I wish you could manually add a significant location without having significant locations always running in the background tracking you.
So are you saying we should leave Significant locations on or off?
I would say turn it off, but you will need to wait 1 hr if you want to change your password. I wonder how often do people even change their password. I’ve had the same one for years but my phone has never been stolen lol
I'm going to sleep on it :)
Your videos always look stellar. Thank you for posting in HDR!
Thanks, I put a lot of effort into the look, but I feel like not a lot of people really care about that. 🤣 🤷🏼♂
Love it
@@9to5Mac True, but there also are some people who cares, and they enjoy every bit of it❤❤
What I see is that if a thief is already in your phone to try and turn off or change the lock code why would they bother. If I stole your phone and knew your pass code and logged into the phone, I am then going to dump your images, contact list, checkout your email calendar etc. If someone has your lock code it doesnt matter how much security you implement they are in. I can only see this being beneficial if they want to try and re-sell your phone, but if they just want to gather information from within your phone and they already know the passcode then its pointless. Am I wrong?
I assume this security update is for the the thief that still iPhone then use people Apple Pay to run up credit card. At least that’s what I’ve been reading this pass year about the group running snatch and grabs at bars.
i dont have that
Please answer why my iphone 14 dont have that stolen device protection? I already updated to 17.3
We are not cool enough
@@spacegoat_3d801 I figured it out already.
That’s a lot for security. Fingerprint seems simpler
Is this exclusive for iphone 15?
No but it requires iOS 17.3 to function.
So i drive a semi I don’t have a significant location i travel across the united states literally
Which cell phone carrier works best for those that literally travel across the US?
Ducky for President, 2024!
Man watching videos in HDR on an iPhone sucks 😂… can’t turn down the brightness enough
So now thieves would kidnap you for one hour or follow you to your home until they walk away with your phone with Apple ID logged out and ready to sell, great idea 😅
Thumbs up if you scanned the qr code!
Great explanation. But, to get this straight, they can just wait and hour and bypass using my pin? (Need to wait 1 hour to see what that looks like)
Even worse, use my gps to drive next to my house. Turn on Significant Locations with no pin or biometrics required, and bypass the whole thing? (which I just pretended to do) This should have been included in the 1 hour, but then they could just come back in 1 hr.
This feature seems really crippled, for relatively no gain. Not impressed Apple
This is a security update for your regular snatch and grab at a bar thief lol. If someone is stalking you that long where they know your house is located I would assume the phone is probably not what they’re after lol but I wish Apple would just let people add their own location.
If it means enabling Location Services and Significant Locations it’s a strong NO from me
How about an option for elders who want / NEED a Very VERY SIMPLIFIED, iPhone Without all the complexity, confusion, and playful stuff?
Just give me 1 more week I am determined to find a flaw in Apple stolen device this is stoping my money 😡😡😡 ik its a way apple allways leave a loop hole 🎉
On the subject of Stolen Device Protection: I put my thoughts to a Pages file listing security features that are ALREADY AVAILABLE that we've NOT USING
The first feature is OBVIOUS set an alphanumeric passcode
The other features NOT BEING USED are to DISALLOW PASSCODE CHANGES and DISALLOW ACCOUNT CHANGES
DISALLOWING PASSCODE CHANGES HIDES the Face ID & Passcode menu in the Settings app
DISALLOWING ACCOUNT CHANGES GRAYS OUT your Apple ID settings in the Settings app
BOTH DISALLOW PASSCODE CHANGES AND DISALLOW ACCOUNT CHANGES REQUIRE the use of the Screen Time passcode and Apple CAN IMPROVE the Screen Time SECURITY TOO
So, my problem is that I want biometrics only for certain functions (like authorization to perform certain functions), but not authentication -- like logging onto the phone.
And I never, ever want to use FaceID. I'll do fingerprints, but not FaceID.
They should add “Stop turn off device” option. So that thieves can turn off the phone when they steal it.
I'm not saying I don't agree with the idea but it would be illgeal
The phone GPS still works while it's off on iPhones. And doing so is bad for if you need to troubleshoot the device due to a freeze!
Most people around the world 🌍🌎🌍🌎🌍 who have an iPhone have photos from the years
2022 2021 2020 2019 2018 2017
2016 2015 2014 2013 2012 2011 and beyond PERMENANTLY GONE FOR GOOD. An example would be Reyhan Ayas
Stolen device protection is just plain dumb !!!
another useless apple music update
Just because you find it useless, doesn’t mean the same applies to everyone else.
@@Macrike iphone sucks tho
Spotify has it. About time Apple does too.
I'm not a fan of it either. I'm old enough to remember when listening to music didn't require an internet connection. It was great. Streaming services know when and how often you listen to music. Now, they want to see how you feel when you listen. I'll pass.
Apple Music on the phone and on the Mac are disasters of UI design! The Mac app in particular is awful.
Immediate thumbs down and skip on video for stupid bright hdr. Why do you insist in making this otherwise ok content in hdr?? This is not a movie or those hdr vids to showcase fancy tvs 😒
