Do you know why the RAV4 has excellent resale value? Because it's a quality built car made to last. I wouldn't trust a Ford to go past it's extended warranty. It's cheaper to get the more expensive Toyota and save on maintenance and repair costs.

The MSRP is pretty irrelevant. I don't know where everyone in the comments here lives but the out the door price in Canada when you actually go to the dealership is much lower than what is being suggested here. I am getting to like $46,000 without much negotiation for the base PHEV including $5,000 IZ rebate and 13% HST. I can tell based on my discussions the dealers are willing to go lower than that. That is more than $10,000 less than the best apples to apples RAV4 prime price I was able to negotiate and those are not even available. Even if the RAV4 Prime was available, there seems to be no room to negotiate with Toyota given the demand and the lease and finance rates are significantly worse as I write this. So, would I rather the RAV4? Yes, but given the price difference and if financing/leasing, my payment will be like $200+/month less on the lease for the Escape with comparable mileage/$ savings. Given all of that, I think this vehicle is pretty compelling as an alternative.

I prefer the 2024 Toyota Rav4 or Prius Primes. I love the fact I waited over 1.5 years (Sept 2022 order) to find out the vehicle has not made it onto the "scheduled for production" list. Also really enjoyed the realization, that once I get it the dealer might just increase the price on me; rare Prius Maximum Yellow color. And even better if I wait long enough, I get to pay an additional $5,000 over others before me because the March 31, 2025 deadline for the Federal Rebate in Canada is coming up quickly. Alas, I have settled on a 2024 Ford Escape PHEV (full load, tri-coat white, roof, block heater even) with a $5,000 government rebate, $1,500 Ford rebate, and an additional $2,300 dealer rebate. Hey, for the $10,000+ savings over the 2024 Toyota Prius Prime (Mystery Arrival Edition) and the MORE comfortable interior... I'll take it!

Same color as your tester which was new for model year 2016. I would still have it but those (conventional) transmissions were trash. I sold it at 105,000 miles. I do miss it. I have a '20 Ford Escape. I think this one does a good job of giving more style with the revised front fascia, and Jakub--no rattling in the rear like what you had with that Ford Bronc Sport Heritage! (My cousin experienced the same with her Bronco Sport Outer Banks and gave it up for a Kia Sportage). Also, more rear leg room/reclining seats in the Escape vs the Bronco Sport, though the Bronco Sport makes up for it in more cargo area. I have a regular ICE 1.5L version, and I think I'll take my hp/torque numbers over fuel efficiency. But I'm impressed how many folks really love this PHEV version.

  • @sic22l

I don't know about the current models but my wife had a 2014 Titanium AWD with a detuned Focus ST engine, and that thing was surprisingly fun to drive, and I had the Focus ST at the time. Blew everything in its class out of the water the only competition was the Kia Sportage when they refreshed them in 2015 and had an awd turbo 4 edition. Everything else was gutless and slow.

Believe it or not with the "shakey" turbo 3 the vehical is plenty quick enough. 0 to 60 in 7.7 seconds. I mean it not fast by any means but adequate. It never feels slow. It has more torque than the hybrid. 190lb-ft vs 155lb-ft on the hybrid.

I have a 2021 Ford Escape with the 1.5 3 turbo as a company vehicle. If driven strictly town/city it tends to be a bit shakey at a red light, especially in winter. Not VERY shakey, but it reminds you that a 3 cylinder is under the hood.
In summer, and highway driving, one wouldn't even know a 3 cylinder is powering the vehicle.
I recently test drove a 2024 Ford Escape PHEV in a combination of city and brief highway driving. The sales guy had actually charged the battery before the test drive. I found the drive very relaxing and didn't have any issues with the brake pedal. I tend to be a very relaxed driver anyway. I used to have a 2004 Prius so I knew how to carefully modulate the pedal.
In the end, I ordered a '24 PHEV Platinum with Premium Package, in the exact colour I wanted.

It's not a regular CVT. It's a planetary gearset like a Toyota. From what I've read Ford's hybrid system is very mechanically similar to Toyota's system. The hybrid powertrain is the big thing about these cars that could actually be confidently considered reliable long term since it's so similar to Toyota's.

      @jdkrwodar 10 місяців тому

YES! You are correct... not one GD belt in or on this engine or in the trans. NO! you are wrong... it has nothing in common with Toyota. This "CVT" consists of a 1.)HV traction motor. 2.) HV Generator motor. 3.) ICE coupled through a dampener (a traditional clutch and flywheel permanently engaged). The generator is the couple between ICE and HV traction motor and provides the gear ratio exchange by changing the relative rotational speed and direction- to provide motive charging (regen/engine starting). That said my C MAX is at 159,000+ miles US just got a fresh set of p235/40r19 continental purecontact ls tires (2nd set) mounted on black focus RS wheels. Has been flawless and I adore it.

I don't hate the Mach-E (nor do I passionately love it, but I don't mind it) and just seeing these side by side it makes me further appreciate that the Mach-E "is" a Mustang - it's so much sportier in stance and proportion. Even in real life, I think the Mach-E sits on the road like a Mustang (obviously as a reimagined one). And this, well, sits like an unoffensive family crossover - as it should. Not a bad effort from Ford.
(Although I also agree, the "real" Ford escape - the boxy one - was a cool and surprisingly iconic car. The Bronco Sport has probably taken that place, but this one really is as uninteresting as any Rav4 or CRV. But again that is probably the point. I'm actually more sad about this one being named the Escape than the Mach-E being the Mustang!)

I have a 2015 SE AWD Escape. Got it used. Don't know how a car sold in Quebec would up in MN? I get good milage. Have sensor problem that no one can figure out, so I live with it. The turbo does lag, but it has not went out yet. Have had above average repair costs.. But, winters are hard on cars up here. Not a big fan of the ECO-BOOST motors. Would not buy a Ford again.

In Europe, it's the best PHEV on the market, you can't find another car with this price point offering you a lot of options for less money. RAV4 it's way too expensive and way too boring, Sportage it's the same, really expensive for nothing, so Kuga it's the best for under 40k euro.

In the european market this is the "Kuga", easy to understand why you wouldn't go with that name, especially if you want to market this car to middle aged women 😛
Nonetheless: Big yay for larger and more responsive infotainment, Big Nay for removing the excellent setup of physical buttons from the previous model...

This is more reliable. Research the reliability history of Ford hybrids, they have a stellar reputation for longevity. Lots of cab companies are still using early 2000s escape hybrids. To put it into perspective, when cab companies tried switching to Toyota Camry's, they only lasted a few years before having problems, and the Ford's are still running after 15.

This car is only worth getting in the hybrid trims for its good fuel economy and better reliability over the ecoboosts (the 2.5L is a decade old, time proven engine). There are several much better options if you want a non-hybrid in this class.
