Nice to see this song getting some deep appreciation in the form of working out Roman's guitar part. And from someone I wouldn't necessarily have expected it from. Good stuff brother.
Trying to keep a standard acoustic in drop-A must've been fun tho- I'm guessing there were many pauses thru recording to coax the tuning back in. I'd be on my baritone since I can't afford one of Roman's fan fret hand built OD guitars!
I hope folks understand how much Eugene's bass work thru this song absolutely makes the thing. The bass playthrough vid he uploaded for this is a 5-string drop-A #MasterClass - the slides, the casually fingernail-raked chordals, even some slap&pop where few others would think to place it. Tons going on, but *all* in service to the song. It's the best illustration of how a deeply musical bassist can make a single-guitarist heavy band sound *HUGE* :)

I’m not going to lie, trying to keep this thing in tune was a nightmare!!! I’m starting to think I need to buy another guitar that can handle the tuning, as I love how it sounds!!
I couldn’t agree more on the bass work! Where he plays the notes in the pocket as well add so much to this song. Absolute perfection in my eyes!!

It’s such a cool tune, but yes, it’s a tricky one!! Keep at it bud!

Really cool breakdown of what's going on. The fact that you've done it on an acoustic so you can really hear what's happening is nice. The tuning is ridiculous. I'm doing it with 10 gauge strings which is basically impossible on the electric, but works weirdly well with my acoustic. It sucks because the song doesn't work in any other tuning other than drop A lol. You wouldn't think that this style of guitar playing is overly difficult, but I've spent years learning from these great legendary guitarists, whether it's Slash, Randy Rhoads, SRV ect. ect. But this is another level of challenge here. The guitar parts are so intricate and there is no repetitive "riff" to sort of latch on to, coupled with relentless phrasing. One thing that has been throwing me off though is the tabs are different from what you're playing. There are parts of the tabs that line up, and then notes here and there that aren't right- so I find myself having to use the tabs as a vague reference while taking what you're playing and trying to replicate it.

You are right on at all aspects! Going to keep working to improve tabs as I tend to vary my voicings as I go, which is a little challenging! I’ll keep working to get better!

Awesome job! Great to see Roman getting some love, I feel he flies under the radar sometimes due to the other standout players in Jinjer, not to mention Tatiana who deservedly grabs a lot of the attention. I really enjoyed this lesson, not I just need to find enough talent to play it!

Roman is the MAN!!! The stuff he writes fits the song’s perfectly and I’m a huge fan! I’m super pumped you enjoyed the lesson, and all you need is time and consistency to learn it!
      Appreciate the note!!!!

Nice work. I don't know how well your Taylor cooperated with those strings, but I had to cut my nut a lot to get 14-68 strings to fit on my Fantomen.

It did not cooperate! I’m running 12s, but when it’s tuned that low, she is not happy!! How do the 14s hold up with lower tunings?

@@StanDotsethMusic I just copied what Roman does as a starting point which is 14-68 on a 25.5" scale length. The tuning stability is solid once you get it intonated, but it took me more than the usual to get it there. But, I'd say the 68 in a drop A is still a little floppy for my liking, but it's fine in B standard. The rest of the strings are perfect though. Honestly, I don't know how you're doing it on 12s.
I've done it on two guitars, I started with a Schecter C-1 with a Floyd. You do not have to modify the nut, those monster strings fit somehow in the V shaped string slots, but you gotta really compensate with the spring tension to get it balanced. It wasn't a huge deal though. So I'd say to anyone out there that wants to try it, start with a Floyd guitar first. I played that for a few months and liked it, but also wanted to play in B standard, so I did it to my Hagstrom Fantomen where I did have to cut the nut for the strings to fit. Now it's a permanent mod for that string gauge until I change the nut.
