Goes to show how selfless Stanley really is. He's miserable and down in the dumps - literally - but completely lets it all go and doesn't hesitate to rescue someone he thinks is in danger.
He realizes that it's just a mask with seaweed and stuff onto it. The reflection of the mask made the white thing move that's why Stanley thought it was somebody who was in distress.
Can’t help but feel that one act of saving what he thought was a drowning person after all the misery he had that day was some kind of test to see if he is worthy to have the mask.
If the mask is truly sentient, then it was probably testing him to see if he would be entertaining enough to be worth playing with. After all, everyone loves to see a good person lose their self-control
0:35 - 0:55 is so surreal. Especially with that very uniquely emotional and nostalgically chilling piano verse in the score. It really gets you when you *actually* hear it.
I like how the mask itself seems to have hypnotic power, look How Stanly seems hypnotized when he find the mask, almost as if the mask was forcing him to put it on his face.
@Black Ninja That would be unknown if it's really a spell for the wearer or not because that mask was created by Loki and his father Odin wouldn't want anyone to wear that mask since Odin mentioned that Loki should not have made that mask since it caused problems when it got lost.
@Black Ninja I understood what you meant. However I'm just guessing that Loki wouldn't of created that green wave or anything for any person to get an interest in wanting to put the mask on or wanting to have it because that mask belonged to Loki himself and he wouldn't want anyone to have his mask or gain power when wearing the mask because the only reason he created that mask was to cause problems within the humans for himself to wear. So it's unknown what that green wave was all about if the mask is out of control when Loki is not around.
Carrey looks so young here even though he was in his early 30's, I never thought that I'll see him play Dr. Robotnik in the Sonic Movies. I feel so old.
I used to be Stanely and nothing went well with my life until I asked the universe to change my life and I changed my mindset to that of a winner. Ten years later I own my own business I am gaining success in my life and it seems like I'm winning in everything I do lately. Some people say that I have changed and some don't like my change but I had to become the man I am in order to have the things have today, my confidence is through the roof. Every time I see this scene I'm always reminded of the day I decided to wear the mask. I'll never go back to being Stanely, never.
Took me sometime to realize this is a HOMAGE to famous bridge scene from movie "It's a Wonderful Life" (1946) starred James Stewart, a classic Christmas movie that is still watched until now.
As a kid watching this movie this scene always confused me at first cause I wasn’t sure why Stanley thought the garbage in the water was a human body! lol... it just looked clearly like a pile of junk to me. We don’t get a very good look at the mask bobbing to the side as if it’s somebody’s head.
It's funny how he lied from 1:57-2:04 that he's looking for his mask instead of saying that he thought he saw a man drowning and came down to save him. However, I know it wouldn't be a good idea if he said he thought a man was drowning because the cops would have thought that he killed him.
@@Brinoctopus they'd still find it suspicious that he claimed to try and save somebody when there was nobody there. If a missing persons case ever came up soon after, he'd immediately become a suspect.
Looking at the scene where he finds The Loki Mask now, it's hard to believe a man would look at all that debris and rubbish floating in the water and immediately think "Oh god, there's somebody in trouble!"
0:20 I love how this movie is already kind of cartoony even before the Mask shows up. The timing and the delivery of that car falling apart is very exaggerated and deliberately unrealistic, and that makes it ten times funnier
Police Officer: Hey, what are you underneath down there.?! Stanley Ipkiss: I was looking for.... My.... My Mask?!. I got it. So yes i think i was totally my favorite part from the mask movie back in 1994 starring Jim Carrey, Cameron Diaz, and Peter Greene. 😆😆😆😆👻
I do like how this scene shows the kind and caring person Stanley is. especially when he mistakes that pile of floating junk for a man. Also, I really like the bullet nose Studebaker cars, especially the commander and champion as sedans, but I don't like when they are given as scraps of junk like that.
I felt bad for Jim Carrey in this scene when he had a bad night. But at least his luck almost changed then it did when Jim found the mask that he thought was a person drowning.
What i really like about this scene is Stanley went with the intent to save this man hoping maybe his luck will turn around after a crappy day. Then he becomes irritated to find out he just jumped to save junk only to find a diamond in the ruff that night. Even more so The Loki Mask has that kind of pull with its user as if it wants to be put on. Even showing some glow around 1:40 tempting Stanley to put it on. Gives that same glow to Dorian when he acquires it too.
What is that glow supposed to mean when it does that? Is it just to give some form of mystery that it’s magic with powers? We also see it glow when Stanley is looking at it back in his apartment, then of course, puts it on for the first time.
@@georgemiddleton3315 This is a shot in the dark but Perhaps its the mask's way of reaffirming that its not a ordinary object but something special. Or the VFX artists were like ok lets have it glow every now and then to remind the audience that this object is special.
@@alastor742 yeah! That’s what I thought for a long time, that it’s a sign that it’s not just an ordinary object, or that it’s not just any old mask. When it glows, it looks like it actually hypnotises Stanley into putting it on, the way he stares right into it when he first puts on the mask in his apartment (as well as when he was about to try it in the river). Same goes for Dorian when he first puts on the mask, it glows then as well. Also, speaking of that scene, in what way did Peggy Brandt betray Stanley? @@georgemiddleton3315 Peggy betrayed Stanley in a way of a trap. And that’s why the mask “chose” him. It only allows itself to be worn by someone who is worthy
