That episode was perfect! Dave would have been very happy I think. I'm glad I got the chance to help Nancy and the family create a lasting story that has touched so many people. I teared up at the end when Marcel was handing out Dave's Packs. It was a perfect way to honor Dave. Thanks Chasing Cardboard. - Jeff
I can't express my gratitude enough for everything you do for the hobby. I'm 44 and fell back in love with this hobby a little over a year ago after a 20+ year absence. Although I'm still trying to navigate all the changes that have come within the hobby. Grading, collecting, selling, breaking, etc. One thing that hasn't changed is people's passion and love for these little pieces of cardboard. You two are what I call "real ones" in this hobby. While you have businesses that revolve around buying and selling. At the end of it all its not "all" about the money. It's about the connections to the people and the undying love of collecting. Thank you so much for your professionalism, your honesty, and your love of this hobby. ❤️ ❤
Ya I hopped back into it about 4-5 years ago after a 20ish year absence and it had changed a ton. I learned the hard way for most of it, but still enjoyed myself along the way. Ebay is really the best place to buy, and do it by knowing which players/cards you want and watch auctions.
Well said my friend. I'm 46 years old and I also recently fell back in love with the hobby as well. Alot has definitely changed since I was a kid collecting card's. It's definitely a whole new world that's for sure. But thanks to UA-cam channels like Chasing Cardboard it will help me navigate through all the nuances that in the hobby today!
I just wanted to say that I am 44 and just got back into the hobby about 2 years ago, and everything you just said is so true. The thing that I am having the biggest time adjusting to is the grading, and the price of the product. I just wanted to wish you luck in your endeavors.
Man, I just stumbled across this channel and im absolutely addicted to it. I love how yall are so respectful to the families story and process of it all. Keep making episodes like this and i'll be a lifelong subscriber.
Guys come on! This was the absolute best thing I have watching in like a thousand years. I dont even have words for how fantastic it was. It brought me back to my time with my own dad who passed away 2 years ago and brought me smiles with every thought. This was just so outstanding start to finish. The note you had on the repacks... what an awesome touch. His name is in the hands of kids for all the best reasons. Thanks so much for sharing the journey and most importantly the story! Way to go guys.
Has to be the end when the repacks are given out followed closely by the conversion with the family on the plans for the repacks. It just brought the episode home perfectly.
Guys this was a beautiful family and Chasing Cardboard did it right honoring the memory of Dave’s love for the hobby and people! I have to say that this was done perfect!
Wow wow wow! Just finished this episode. So good! The end was incredible. You guys put so much care into what you do an really give a lot. Thanks for sharing with all of us viewers. I hope the community continues to grow and give back to you the same way you give to others. I’m sure Nancy and her family loved watching this episode and loved the way you helped continue the legacy.
I liked how you pointed out how some people put the good stuff in binders! If you come from TCG like pokemon, yugioh, mtg, etc. That's standard. There's lots of art cards that make a full picture when you combine them in a binder. People still prioritize set building in those games. Especially pokemon. "Gotta catch em all" applies to cards, too. This guy probably just did it out of necessity for logging things. As not knowing what he had, was probably very frustrating. But if you find TCG collections. The binders are usually where the good stuff is. Most pretty, rare cards in tcg are not useful in decks. they're only fit for a binder. Just keep that in mind if you come across them. I saw a picture on reddit a while back of the kylian mbappe gold vinyl /5 rc sitting unsleeved in a binder. 😂 some people just like being able to easily see their cards.
Great episode! I thoroughly enjoyed the day with the whole Chasing Cards crew! Genuine guys who enjoy what they do and appreciate the stories Of the collectors. Thank you for appreciating Dave’s story and sharing his card packs at the Burbank show- awesome!
You did it. I consider this your perfect episode. Ty and Marcel have the perfect balance with each other. Beautiful story. Nice collection. Outstanding touch with the ending scene. You are improving your style with each episode, props to the team.
It is great how you make everyone aware of the time it takes to organize, grade, market, and actually sell the cards. Even the time to go through the collection and transport the cards. Tons of respect for Ty and Marcel making a living honestly and providing a great experience for the hobby.
I hope you do the collectors random packs from everyone who you buy a collection from. Truly genius! Everything about this show is awesome. Daves collection random card pack giveaways to kids. What a great way for that respect to live on in the younger generations. A wonderful way for them to get great cards starting off. 💯🔥❤️
Wish we could. Dave had a ton of great cards that we could do that with. Most of the collections we get don’t. Plus we have to pay for gas, hotels, storage, uhaul, food, and pay ourselves back. Maybe one day we’ll start drawing a salary?!
Another fabulous episode. Shows like this make me want... no NEED to get my cards in order so my family isn't stuck when I am gone. I knew you would find the Ryan and send it back to the family. Never thought about you grading it first though. All class all the time.
You guys are such great guys. He always watch out for the person that you’re buying from. I hope there’s more people out there like that. God bless you guys.
Remember when sports card radio tried to take you guys down. Yea that didn't work out for them. They haven't gained any followers this year and are making less and less content. Thank you for being one of the few channels that actually makes content instead of just taking about others
@@CHASINGCARDBOARD it’s hard to say. The entire piece was put together so well. The storyline really came together, and had a professional feel throughout.
What a truly emotional show. I wasn’t even mad you didn’t show a ton of the collection. You guys hit it out of the park. It was a win win for everyone involved including the viewers. Thank you.
I don’t need to negotiate as long as you writing the check. Lol. Marcel dropped a nugget there. Great story. You make this show more about the people which I think is what makes you guys so special. I do have a question though. How in the heck did you guys find a collection in Texas without Mike. Is he still punished from the last deal he went on by his own. lol. The end is the best part. Making a kids day and seeing them smile is pretty special.
Mike should be feeling guilty he wasn't there to help you load....I think he's going to be enjoying a World Series victory too. Texas has too many bats.
It's clearly an awful time for the family, so for them to deal with people such as yourselves just makes the daunting process that little less daunting. Really well handled, lads! Very respectful, very reasonable, very classy!👍 Keep up the great work, keep spreading the love... and that touch to hand out free cards to children in the gentleman's memory was such a great thing to do for him, and for his loving family. As the saying goes, 'you get more bees with honey, than vinegar'. Have a wonderful week. 👍
First off, great job guys. This is actually an important video to collectors (or at least to me). Namely, make sure you leave instructions of what parts of your PC are valuable. Provide guidance. Think about it, your loved ones are already grieving, and the last thing they want to do is learn about value in this hobby. My concern is that if you don't do this, your loved ones may just give your valuable cards away, and not capture value. And surely we wouldn't want that outcome as collectors.
Rip off widowers and amateurs. So nice of them. There is a reason they can't ever get a deal done at a card show. These ppl are gross wolves in sheep's clothes
What a great episode and gesture by you guys to go above and beyond to make the family feel good about the deal. Keep being a bright spot for the hobby!
There is definitely a spectrum in this hobby that ranges from the good guys who love collecting and sharing their collection with others, all the way down to the guy who will scam just about anyone to make a buck. Dave was definitely at the pinnacle of the good guy end of the spectrum and although it’s sad to lose someone like him in this hobby it’s good to know that his cards went to someone who is going to do what Dave would have wanted done with his collection.
Great episode. I've often thought about the burden it would be for my wife or kids to deal with my collection when I'm gone. Also, I get the feeling that the family was not after squeezing every dollar out of the cards but instead doing something that Dave would have liked to see. But, this got me thinking into how much we spend into our collections and probably end up selling for way less.
