One of my favorite scenes, Edwin yelling "For the Lord" and then completely missing was peak comedy lmao. I swear the show really excelled when it came to all the well crafted jokes and the ways the actors would deliver comedic lines. Definitely one of the funniest shows I've ever seen.
I just find it funny when Justin H. Min’s character, who’s supposed to be wholesome and all, loses it on a basketball game. A praise leader who drops F bombs is a sight to behold.
partly also because of the history between Danny and Edwin's wife Veronica. I think Edwin knew about the history of Danny and Veronica long before. Thats why when they first met in the show. Edwin was giving him bad vibes. (jealousy towards Danny).
Prison has large gang activity so its all segeregated by race, Koreans arent too big of a demographic so they choose where they go, the Filipinos protected Isaac at first@@Gallard-002
Yeah sometimes when actors do these scenes they play it too well which makes no sense when the character isnt an actor. Or they do the reverse and come off completely fake when the character irl would try to sell it more. But Steven Really sold that “guy who can’t act but is trying his best to act” vibe
I think it’s funny how a meaningless basketball game completely messes up Edwin’s life. But I’ve met people like him in real life. They want to be perfectionist at every facet of life.
It's not actually the basketball game.. as we later find out, Edwin's wife was speaking about Danny was the best she had and it was happening for a while before that basketball game. I think it started to consume him earlier and then Danny getting all the attention at the church, when he turned his page around after framing Isaac
One of my favourite scenes. Kept replying it. Great soundtrack. The shot of Danny’s team going up against the perfect lean, “dream team” and then the line “where the f is Isaac?” cuts to Isaac in jail.
This is a great scene. The combo of the edit and music choice really set the tone for what kind of person Danny is… as long as he stays out of his own way he can accomplish whatever he sets his mind to… “better than the rest”
Thanks for posting, this was one of my favorite scenes from this incredible show. It's also one of the few times we see that brotherly comradery between Danny and Paul.
If you grew up going to an Asian-American church where there was "competitive" basketball, you know this isn't much of an exaggeration. I've seen a praise team leader storm off the court in anger cursing/flipping everyone off and multiple grown men screaming at/blaming teenaged kids for their team losing. Heard on another occasion recently that one of the adults was stealing the ball from his teammates (again, incouidng kids) to "take over" in a close game. Guess it's what happens when there's a good amount of repressed anger.
@@user-we7cu4el7slol not everyone who are religious are saints, divine and are immune to human imperfections. As someone who used to go to Church, I can 100000% vouch that there are people who lose it over anything. Not every one of course, but there certainly are.

After all the arguing and turmoil Danny and his brother going through, I was really happy they had this moment of happiness together. It came at a huge expense though what with Isaac being in jail because of Danny. When Isaac accuses Danny of ratting him out, the first thing Danny alludes to is only a “mastermind” could concoct that plan and he isn’t smart enough to think that many steps ahead. The reason isn’t that the two of them are family and because if that, he wouldn’t do that to Isaac.
Well, but in the context of the show, the _"only a mastermind could concoct that plan and I'm not smart enough to think that many steps ahead"_ is a way more believable excuse for Isaac to accept than the less credible _"Bro, how can you even think that I could do this to you? We are family!"_ Especially when Isaac was responsible for Danny's parents' motel shut down and their subsequent moving back to Korea in the past.
Haha...man...80's baby growing-up in the Midwest and going to a Korean-American church. This brought back so many memories. LOL..esp competitive ass basketball. That and volleyball.
I love how earlier Danny was told to "just sit back for the ride" while Isaac "drives" their operation, and then in this scene when Isaac tells Danny to own up to being the driver in that road rage incident his response is "yeah, yeah man of course I'll vouch for you, I'll take the fall, you're in charge, you're driving this thing and I'm just along for the ride" The fact that Danny brings up that old metaphor from Isaac while telling telling Isaac he's going to own up to being the literal driver of the vehicle in the road rage incident, is subliminally brilliant.
It can! There's was a basketball community league that was organized by a local Christian Church with the long term intention of getting new members. However the players participating took it so seriously that there were minor scuffles 😀
this scene was pretty therapeutic for me when things were not going well in my own life. i felt connected to danny in many ways. going to the church scene where he broke down and this scene where he finally has something going his way was uplifting. its almost less intense now rewatching this scene now that im in a better place!
I'm not sure if this scene was meant to be therapeutic, given it's about how Danny has started feeling powerful enough to start fucking over his own family to manipulate the situation to his own benefit...but I'm glad you got something out of it lol
Its funny how everyone makes fun of edwin but danny was never that great he stole his cousins business and framed him issac was more a genius than danny
