      All I can say with your mini is they don’t like to be put in small rooms in my bedroom I have a small closet that is her room I have all of her stuff but she hated having her cage in there so if you mini is gonna be in your room I recommend putting it at the end of your bed and always having to tv on at night for the first like month or so I still sleep with it on and ive had her for a while so noise helps a lot at night and they have the bladder the size of a pea so just be aware to let them out every hour and I did every four hours at night but during the day every hour but I only had to do that for the first night and then the second night she slept through the whole night so just be aware they are really loud if they get bored at night there wining is really loud

    To anyone interested in learning more about raw diets I’d highly recommend the Primal Pack and the Tattooed Dog Trainer channels, I’ve learnt so much from them! I don’t have a dog but I work in the pet industry and have a cat, so I’ve done endless research on nutrition (I also just find it really interesting!). I’d definitely recommend giving raw a try at some point in the future, there’s so many brands that do it at a much more cost effective price than Royal Canin/Hill’s and it’s so much better. Prepackaged is also usually portioned and you don’t have to handle it much more than cutting the package open. Definitely good to be so cautious of cross-contamination, though. Science diets may be “nutritionally complete” but they’re not necessarily healthy when the first or second ingredient is often corn (= sugar). Even in grain free kibble, corn/what/sit is just replaced with potato/rice/lupins. If anyone reading this has a dog with digestive issues, skin/coat issues or dental issues, raw might be a really good option for your dog. But just as you said, it’s a decision that depends on your lifestyle as an owner and your dog’s needs, and what really matters is the health of your animal. It’s great that you’ve made an educated decision and that’s what we all should do.

      thank you for suggesting The Primal Pack because I was thinking about it too. It was a little disheartening watching this.. like I don’t know how much clearer Stella had to be in saying she didn’t want kibble lol. Alas.. /:

    I really appreciate you sharing your research and decisions on feeding Stella. My Ollie is also a long-haired shaded cream miniature dachshund and he too has had stomach problems at times. Ollie's vet does not recommend a raw diet and no grain-free (I know that there is a lot of mixed information there, also). I finally landed on Dave's Bland Food supplemented with cooked (but not over-cooked) white meat chicken and homemade broth. Sometimes he gets Bison which he really loves. He gets freeze dried chicken as a treat but not very much. He had lamb ear chews as a baby, but now no chews. He just does not do well with them at all and has choked before. I want to give him a homemade diet (which his vet also recommends--she has a recipe) but with the hurricanes down here in Florida, I know that I cannot just switch him to kibble overnight if the power goes out for a long time or if I am evacuated somewhere I cannot make his food.

    After that I prepared her meals veggies meats and all, portioned it and froze it.
    Also a smaller kibble is easier for doxies 💗

Now we buy Farmina lamb and blue berry. So far so good but she is gaining weight. Too many bully sticks and treats I guess!! She is so picky!!

    For the bully sticks there are special holders to hold them in place so your dog doesn’t swallow them 🙂 I love your videos btw 💕 My puppy also sometimes sniffs her food and walks away, sometimes even missing a meal hmmm... 🤔 she is on blue buffalo for puppies right now (she’s a 10 month old long haired red/brown Dachshund- standard I think we don’t know yet) she doesn’t throw up from it though. pretty much the only way for me to get her to eat her food is to mix it with warm water and freeze dried raw pieces. Any suggestions for food brands??

    My LH mini Sammy never was a kibble fan. I chose weruva can food which he has been eating faithfully for the past 5 yrs. I only feed him kibble as a treat. I chose zignature. They are the only one that has taurine which is very important for dogs. I did have him on raw which he preferred the most from Raw Paws but it was very expensive. I would like to try The farmers dog or nom nom but again they are costly also.

    If you are looking for a really good cooked food that is balanced and you don't have to make yourself check out Tom & Sawyer. They are based in Toronto. I currently feed Eevee this mixed with Carna4 kibble because the cooked food is a little pricey and not as filling

    Well let me share my experiences as well. I've got 3 miniature dachshunds; Ruby(7 years old), Bruno (4 years old) and luna (1 years old). Up until about a year ago they was all fed on kibble plus other chews and treats from big brands such as pedigree (big in the UK). About a year ago when we got luna, the dog breeder asked us what we was planning on feeding her to cut a long story short she basically told us to try raw feeding among with swapping treats to more natural treats. It was a super easy swap here in the UK you can buy pre-made raw complete dog food. Which is basically 65% human grade meat like what me and you would eat from the store, 15% ground bone and 20% vegetables plus all the nutrients they need that they can't get from meat alone.
    I'm not exaggerating the change in all 3 dogs was noticeable within a week from the food alone. here's a few very big changes; Noticeable increase in appetite towards their food, better smelling breath, more energetic and within the first 4 weeks all 3 dogs had shed loads of fur which is unusual for the breed (they're all short haired) and they hair that replacing it was super soft and shiny. Extremely noticeable.
    I want to make a point of saying that the kibble we was feeding them before was a "no grain" x amount of meat kibble which was very expensive £50 for a bag that would last all 3 dogs 3 weeks so around $70 usd. What's funny as well is the raw diet they're on at the minute only costs £40 for 4 weeks.
    The treats and chews we've changed to; for training I use boiled chicken breast and break it up into really small chunks, very effective as the dogs seem to think that they're eating my dinner and they go crazy for it very easy to get them to learn new tricks etc . For treats they all have 1 carrot a day about mid day. They also have a treat by a manufacturer called whimzees they produce a chew that is purely vegetable based its consistency is hard but easily chewed for a dog. This digests really easily for them and helps they're teeth along with the carrot.
    Kibble is a still a relatively new thing that been bought in around 70 years ago; you've surely got to wonder what people fed they're dogs before that. The big thing that put me off kibble personally is a lot of the ingredient in a lot of kibbles at least here in the UK are carbohydrate based like grain etc which dogs struggle to digest (obviously they still do) and it gets metabolised into sugars which is why you find a lot of older dogs with horrific teeth and breath because of all the sugars in carbs. Just like humans as they are mammals, too much carbs are terrible it's like some food might as well be McDonalds for them. The cheaper brands are criminal for that with the mechanically recovered meat in them plus the big amounts of fillers.
    Just my personal experience It's hard to choose something that your going to feed your dog especially when they're your absolute world like my 3 are. Vets are taught at university to feed dogs kibble and a lot of them recommend kibble as it's such a convenient option. I promise you seriously promise you that your dog like mine would go absolutely crazy for raw food. Different world I promise you. A carrot after the raw food will help them move most of the food if they have any in there teeth etc so they can lick away.

    • @dongo3042
      @dongo3042 3 роки тому +1

      it’s worth saying that just because kibble is new doesn’t mean it is bad!! lots of new inventions are actually good :-) like water treatment and medication and many other modern things. also for anyone else reading this, look into grain free foods and the link between them and heart conditions! they seem healthier but are maybe not the best choice.

    • @almostfamous1685
      @almostfamous1685 3 роки тому +1

      @@dongo3042 agreed new isn’t always worse. There’s a massive raw feeding movement in the UK at the minute. The next 5-10 years I personally think a lot of things are going to change. Pet owners are becoming a lot more aware of the products that are going into there pets food. With raw complete diets becoming very easily accessible and in most cases cheaper it won’t take long. At the end of the day they’re your pets you’ve gotta do what’s you thinks right, but I’ve tried and done both ways now and that’s just my experience with things. The difference in appetite alone speaks volumes about what my 3 dogs preferred they all took about 10 minutes to eat a bowl of kibble each. They’ve all had to have slow eating bowls after eating there raw food in literally 5 seconds (not even slightly joking)

      You can test the dogs poo every three months, you don`t need to deworm if there are no worms, it can damage the gut microbiome...that`s what I do with mine, she is raw fed for a over a year and already ran a few worm and bacteria tests and were always negative ( no worms, no e coli, no salmonella, etc). But it`s important to buy meat from safe places, that has been tested and is human grade ( in case of DIY).

    I mean seriously, what other kind of nutrition is your dog getting if it's not from "food"?
    Is there some magical "other than food" source of nutrition out there, that is even similar enough to "food" that it even warrants acknowledging that food, out of all the many sources of nutrition, food is the greatest?
