I have been teaching Pre-k for 15 years and I still get that first day jitters as well! It looks like you, your assistants and students are off to a fabulous school year!!
I think it’s great all the personal touches that you have taken the time to notice and give the children. Your classroom should be a staple for all Toddler preschool classes!! My son definitely approves, and it helped relieve a little stress that he may have had of the unknown. It also helped give me a few ideas as a parent to prepare him for his new beginnings.😊
Hey Sheryl I just wanna say that I love the approach you are now taking to make your videos. Showing the activities throughout your day. Continue to be the wonderful and inspirational teacher that you are. ❤
Wow i love the family wall and the quiet corner. This would've been great if my kinder had done this with me but instead i just held onto a lipstick my mum gave to keep safe until she picked me up. This is the best environment for kids. I have adhd, so i would have thrived in this learning environment. Good on you and thank you for giving children time to warm up and feel at home, preschool can be pretty hard especially when it comes down to being away from their parents, some children. I worked at a kindergarten where the children would come in play and then sit on a mat for reading time. One student was struggling as he first entered the classroom and his mum told him to stop misbehaving but i could tell he just wanted some quiet time to warm up to everything. So i as soon as i mentioned cars and a book, he relaxed more into the first stage.
It breaks my heart. I was one of those children, too, so I am super sensitive about separation anxiety. My children also dealt with it, so I experienced it as a mother. I'm sorry for your experience, but it has helped you develop empathy towards those that have a hard time. ❤

Very nice space and some good resources. Personally I prefer the preschools of Reggio Emilia and Anji play in China which do not focus on direct academic instruction with such young children. I try to avoid questions in which I know the answer also. It's a lovely gym space.

They love seeing not only their families, but other families. It creates nice conversations as the children point out each family member. And if you add them to a filler that can be scooped and poured, there’s fine motor happening, too!

We follow our state licensing guidelines. Therefore our twos class can have up to ten children. I have an assistant and also have access to a floating teacher.
I live in Texas. This year in our district we have a teacher shortage,so in my Pre-k 4 class I have 38 students and two teacher assistants. I’m still thinking that it’s to much but my Principal said that’s ok. This is my second year teaching and I’m scared 😳
What an amazing class! I have a 2.5 yo and will start daycare soon but he's not good at sitting down for circle time. Sometimes he just walks away and does his own thing. Is that typical for his age? Any tips to help him get more focused?
Hi Claire! Yes, it can be common. That’s why I keep my circle times interactive - using props and such to engage the children. They don’t just want to listen to me. They want to be part of it! But at home I’d suggest having him sit with you to look at a book. If that’s hard for him, pick short books. Even better is if you can find books with things he is interested in (fire trucks, for example). Not only is it a special bonding time between the 2 of you, but it’s also strengthening his attention span. Gradually, as he is ready, you can get longer or more detailed books.
I first try having an assistant sit with the child, helping them become engaged in our activity. But if they don’t want to be there, they can sit in the reading area to look at a book or hold a stuffed animal. They are welcome to return to our circle time at any time, and I will stop and invite them back. If it’s a number of children, this tells me to end circle time and move on. This is why I keep circle times super short at the start of the year and I don’t increase the time until I feel they are ready. And any time that I feel I am “losing” the group, I stop.
Hi Risandy - Good question! Because I haven't started displaying art yet, since it's only week #2.
