This is my first time watching one of your videos, but I really, really appreciate the alternate paints you can use coming up on the page! As someone who doesn't have a lot of money for paint I really appreciate it! Looking forward to trying this out!
Hurts my head seeing the effects you’re able to achieve 🤯 Absolutely incredible 👏🏻 Love the light/dark glaze effect to promote shine, might try that when I’m feeling brave 😁
I saw on your website / tumblr that you may have painted Imotekh. Do you have a video tutorial for that? There aren’t many new videos for him. Not sure if he is good on the tabletop but I love the lore.
I did indeed paint the boss man, but was in my time before doing video tutorials I'm afraid. I took progress snaps over on my Instagram if you use that social, there's a highlighted reel on my profile from when I did him - instagram.com/stories/highlights/17922376546885028/ Otherwise the majority of how I painted him is detailed in this video. Feel free to me message on Tumblr (Have an 'Ask Me Anything' link on my blog there) or drop an email if there's anything specific about him you have questions about :D
The detail to which you go into is amazing. I am a complete newbie and am in awe. How long does this process take you for reference? Are you using the same brush the whole time? I love the Sautekh coloring and really appreciate your videos. Keep it up.
Thanks for commenting, happy you enjoyed the video! :D I took about 4 and a half hours of footage on this one, give or take 15 to 30 minutes for details I finished off-camera (Painting for footage is so hard!). Feels longer because of drying time and spreading out the painting over several days! With brushes, I have a go-to workhorse brush that I use a lot in my videos - a size 2 Rosemary & Co Series 33 Kolinsky Sable brush - but that's entirely for comfort, it's a lovely brush that keeps a solid point. I think I use a size 0 of the same brush in parts of this one, washes I apply with a medium Citadel Shade brush, base texture I use a Citadel Texture and toothpicks, and my dry brushes are Artis Opus D series and Citadel drybrushes. The Rosemary & Co brushes are expensive and take a lot of extra care to keep sharp, but they're superb when you're getting comfortable with painting!
I watch your videos through once to write down all the paints ill need as a new person to the hobby. Do you think in the future you could write out all the paints you use in your pop ups somewhere like the description? its not a bit deal but it'd be nice :)
Certainly! Though the answer isn't super exciting... 😅 The majority is a pre-moulded base from a Sergeant Castus kit - He was a 'special edition' miniature GW put out a while back to reward big spenders but I grabbed one cheap from eBay. It was made for a 50mm base, so I had to hack off some of it to make it fit on a legal 40mm base, and filed and shaved down some cork sheet bits to fill the holes. I also extended one of the rocks he's stood on with a pin and more cork sheet to have him stand level. The moulded bits were smoothed to the base better with a paste made from PVA glue, sand and baking soda. The mini itself didn't need much in the way of changes, bar removing the crystals around the base of the scythe; I just cut and filed those down to make them look like more rock formation. Painting the base was my standard fare - Blue/grey triad for the rocks (Thunderhawk Blue, Fenrisian Grey and Ulthuan Grey), Stirland Mud and Stirland Battlemire for texture, washed with Nuln Oil Gloss, and drybrushed up with Gorthor Brown, Baneblade Brown, and then a light all-over brush of Tyrant Skull. The Warriors were painted the same way I did back in my tutorial for them, just with the glow method used in this video. I had one of the broken Warriors left over from my cutting that just wouldn't fit on the base so I used him on the base of Hasmoteph, one of the other Overlords. He also has a res orb so why not! Hope that's helpful!
they’re from a Sergeant Castus kit. cut down the base to fit the Overlord’s base size, so only two of the crawlers would fit. i’ve seen them floating around on ebay still for £35 plus, so a bit pricey now 😩

Your videos have been the absolute lynchpin of my Necron paint scheme, thank you!
glad to be of use! :D
EXELLENT !
Looks amazing Adz! Colours pop and shading is just incredible!

Magnificent result. Do you take the paint directly from the pot or do you use a wet palette?
thank you!
all my citadel paints are transferred into dropper bottles, so pre-thinned. never used a wet palette, i’m too lazy for the upkeep 😅

absolutely!
Can you share how you did this base?? It’s crazy good.
Certainly! Though the answer isn't super exciting... 😅

How did you make the necron coming out of the base with his arm up like that?
that’s scaveneged from a Sergeant Castus kit that i grabbed for cheap off ebay. no kitbashing, just taken from a different kit 👍
Where did you get the necrons from for the base? The ones being resurrected.

@@HowAdzPaints much appreciated, thank you. Will look to see if there is a 3D file for them somewhere.
