    With the song When The War Is Over John has actually recorded it twice first when he was in the Little River Band ( LRB ) in 1986 for the underrated album No Reins .
    This 1986 version also features the songs writer ex Cold Chisel’s drummer Steve Prestwich playing drums for LRB . Steve Prestwich joined LRB in 1984 after Cold Chisel officially broke up for the first time in 1983 he left LRB just a few months before John did in 1986 that lead to the album No Reins had very little promotion .
    When The War Was Over was released as the last single from No Reins after John left the band and You’re The Voice had propelled him back into the spotlight again . LRB record label was just cashing in on John’s solo success after the 4 years with LRB they had zero interest with him .
    LRB’s version didn’t chart .
    But John solo label requested a reluctant John Farnham to record it again in 1988 as a b side to the hit number 1 single Age Of Reason and bonus track on CD album Age Of Reason .
    John was content to leave his version as a LRB song .
    But John did love the song and record label talked him into it. John did indicate that he didn’t like how much crap in the studio that the producer made LRB do to kept vocals crystal clear and so strong .
    So to re-record it within his own space in terms he was more comfortable with .
    Cold Chisel original from 1982 on their classic Circus Animals album featured as a single and peak at 25 on the Australian charts .
    Jimmy Barnes has also rerecorded and rereleased solo version .

      Thanks heaps Mark. The extra info is great. Love learning more about John and John being John though - says he wouldn't be able to do what he did in his solo career without the LRB experience because it grew him up. Turning negatives into positives - just a pure legend ❤🎉

      @@AussieDebb no problem Aussie Debb .
      I remember and interview with John he was talk about the record of the 2 bonus tracks on the Age Of Reason CD It’s A Long Way To The Top and When The War Is Over that both was requested by the recording company.
      John wasn’t even keen on coving the AC/DC classic .
      He said ; it’s he’s favourite rock song and some songs from certain bands AC/DC shouldn’t be covered .
      Yeah LRB really should’ve worked very underrated 3 albums .
      Definitely LRB’s Playing To Win album is John’s blueprint for Whispering Jack .
      Like Uncovered is like an unofficial LRB album , Playing To Win could be easy an unofficial John Farnham solo album .
      Playing To Win album created the sound that was different from any traditional LRB which lost hardcore LRB fans but created the John’s sound for his solo albums to come 2 years after.

      @@markjames3522 I'm going to have to have more of a look and listen to Uncovered and the LRB 3 Albums he did with them. I've really only touched on them. I'll have to go back in time and get the guys to react to them. 😊 I might do a special before going into the 2000's. 🎉 Part 12 will be done soon. 😊

    David is using a talk box with the Keytar, which changes the sound as he blows into connecting tubes. Im not an expert but I did google it. Can someone else add some more info about this please 🙏 @Dr_Kap? 😊❤️

    • @Dr_KAP
      @Dr_KAP 2 місяці тому +1

      Oh yeh no problem. So a keytar is like a wearable synthesiser/ midi keyboard. Let me explain a midi keyboard. Imagine you have a small keyboard about 50cm long and it looks like a mini piano with a few extra buttons. Then on your computer you have a software instrument- a virtual instrument. This could be a saxophone or a piano or a harmonica or anything you want that you just play by pressing keys on the computer. So the little midi keyboard is connected to that. By pressing keys on that midi keyboard it triggers the notes on your virtual software instrument on the computer and this is what you hear. With his keytar he could play any instrument or even any sound that you program into your computer. The computer software can play either 1) virtual instruments- in this case a virtual bagpipe which sounds mostly like a real one but it isn’t a real one OR 2) the computer can play a real instrument- in this case a real bagpipe because you’ve recorded every single note from a real bagpipe and created a virtual one out of the real thing. It’s never going to sound exactly the same as you don’t have the same compression of air and different tricks you do with real instruments to create effects but midi instruments even do their best to incorporate such effects for example legato etc on a piano
      I recorded Australian cockatoos outside. I then loaded this sound into the computer software and created a virtual keyboard which plays that cockatoo singing every note when I press a different key. I can then use my midi keyboard to make the cockatoo sing any song

      @@Dr_KAP Thanks Kappy ❤️ Now what about the talkbox in his mouth? Was my simple description right? 😊

    • @Dr_KAP
      @Dr_KAP 2 місяці тому +1

      @@AussieDebb Deb I haven’t actually watched the video yet - if there’s a mouthpiece it may not be a keytar, it may be a melodica which is a keyboard that you play while blowing. The sound is produced via blowing air into it and the notes are produced by playing the keys. I’ll watch it and find out 😜 😂

    • @Dr_KAP
      @Dr_KAP 2 місяці тому +1

      @@AussieDebb ahh so he’s definitely playing a keytar not a melodica. As for the mouth thing, no it’s not attached to the keytar, it’s some kind of mini mouth instrument I can’t see it clearly but maybe a harmonica or jaw harp with a dyna-mic mike attached? I’ve got no idea but it sounds like a harmonica to me.. let me know if you find out. Ps I wrote above he was simulating bag pipes with the keytar but he did that in You’re the Voice.. you can play any instrument on the keytar.

      @@Dr_KAP Morning, hope all is well with you and yours? . 10 am Saturday UK time, last day of August. . I've been watching Debb's History series out of sequence - lots of family and other events these last few weeks so catching up as and when. . I had never heard of Keytar until viewing John's performances, but my daughter in law recognised it when Alexa played it. What an amazing instrument. And I understood your explanation of how it can be used. A few years before pandemic a friend, a concert pianist, bought an electric Yamaha piano, which could play different instrument sounds. But I don't know if you could load and transform other, non instrument sounds. ❤❤. Aug'24. UK. E❤
