It’s a tough choice because I want the best possible performance in both photos and videos on a smartphone. However, everywhere I turn, people keep telling me that the iPhone is the king of video, while the Pixel is the king of photography. It’s frustrating. Why isn’t there a device that excels at both, outperforming everyone else? It feels like each brand is perfecting only one area, leaving consumers like me having to compromise when what we really want is an all-in-one solution.
I am 15 year iPhone user (I upgrade yearly) and this year switched to Pixel 9 pro xl. Not really happy about seeing apple have neen adding unnecessy software features/changes and hardware buttons, or annouce features too early to trying to catch up with competition(this reminds me of doing business with some Chinese companies) Now a few weeks on my Pixel though I do miss some of the iphone software featrues, e.g. how widgets can work on lockscreen and swipe right on home on the iphone., but, for the most part the Pixel really shines when it comes to useful tools when travelling and productivity (the AI stuff). Things like system-wdie live translate, live caption, google lens, that helps translation chats photos or camera view. Its sooo useful when travelling into another country. I also missed the iPhones video cam and portrait video too, but I am also enjoying the Pixel photos and front cam much more than the iPhones now.
I had a Pixel 3a and 6a and now the iPhone 16, my first iPhone (although I used my wife’s iPhone and iPad). I’m loving my iPhone. iOS is a very gentle OS with sounds and vibrations. iOS improved in some aspects that were deal breaker for me, getting closer to Android experience, like moving icons wherever, change widget size without removing them, etc. But I think Pixel OS offers better UX. It is more effortless to use whereas iOS you have to be more intentional with gestures and other things. Like in Android you pull the notifications pulling down from whatever on the screen or the universal back gesture. Better notifications. Much better keyboard with numbers row, comma and dot in the same layout, and much better multilingual functionality (even bilingual keyboard on iOS 18.0.1 doesn’t get close to Pixel), better dictation, better assistant, better spam calls control, clipboard history and easier copy&paste functionality, etc. I also found iPhone and Apple Watch to have more bloatware than Pixel phones and watch. Pixel seems the pinnacle of simplicity and UX. There are things I love about iOS 18 and now offers more customisation that Android like the control panel and lock screen. Although i would like to get rid of the app library. I really like taking a screenshot, sharing it, tapping on Done and Delete, so I don’t accumulate screenshots. The worse part of iOS for me is how buggy the Messages app is and nobody mentions it: - screen goes off when recording a voice message and either the recording message is not there anymore or was paused when the screen went off - messages syncing issues - voice message stuck on 00:00 3/10 times i try to send an audio message from the sound wave icon on the right side of the text input (it always work from the + icon on the left) - and more What i love the most is the Apple Watch Series 10 and the rings. series 10 is very lightweight and thin, and rings are very motivational. And the alarm haptics slowly increasing is super cool. My Pixel Watch 2 alarm/bedtime syncing was very buggy (sometime the phone ring, sometimes the watch, sometime neither 😅 ). I really like both systems.

For the past year I have been using so many different flagship devices, Honor Magic 6 Pro, S24 Ultra, iPhone 14 Pro Max, Xiaomi 14 Ultra, OnePlus 12 and now Pixel 9 Pro XL, people who complain about chip have no real life experience. I switched to 9 Pro XL directly after S24 Ultra and the only performance difference I see is in gaming, obviously, I cannot game on Ultra but rather Medium. Everything else, heavy every day usage, a lot of camera usage, AI editing, efficiency and fluency is literally the same. I would say Pixel is even more smooth in some situations.
Got myself a Pixel 9 Pro XL, it can last for 2 days full battery charged. Smooth and no lagging of the OS a decent phone to use for daily drive . Good camera shot on every photos tou take. No doubt , this year Google has make a good phone hopefully next year they can use SD processor to be the top notch phone compare with others 2 competitor of A and S
Been an apple guy since 5s. I have the 15 Pro Max and the Pixel 9 Pro XL. Google's Pure OS experience is unmatched. My 15 pro max is collecting dust right now. Pixel 9 Pro lineup is the phone to beat this year.
I haven’t been an iPhone user as long as you, my first was the Xr. But I also have the 15 PM and the 9 Pro XL, and my Pixel gets majority of my time! Google nailed it with the 9 series. Been with Google phones since before they were Pixel (the Nexus days), and as far the Pixels go, this is the first time I can say it is a complete phone, and HIGHLY recommend it to others
biggest issue with the pixel and for all android phones for that matter: lack of magsafe/Qi2 wireless charging built into the phone. Heck, the pixel does not charge fast wirelessly at all. i have a magsafe adapter case for my pixel 9 pro xl and although it charges with the Qi2 charger i bought, it does not charge fast at all.
This is a personal preference situation, but I own both and in terms of raw value, the 16 Pro Max is the better device at the same price. Google should not be trying to compete directly with Apple at that price. Forgetting the intangibles, you can walk into an Apple store and get your phone repaired/replaced pretty much anywhere. Google support is a nightmare to deal with. Also in terms of raw hardware, you get more value out of the iPhone. You can hate on iOS and Apple all day, but you get much more of what you pay for with their devices than you do with Google.
None of that matters for the average user. For most it's just about what OS works for your lifestyle and preference. Apple phones are totally overpowered for the average person.
And you can walk into a Google store in some cities and have your phone fixed as well with better customer service. Not every city has an Apple store, and tbh they've been shutting a lot of them down. Apple has been selling the same hardware since the iPhone 12 Pro so how is it a better buy?
I think the pricing is a miss for Google. Their hardware shouldn’t be fetching flagship prices, especially with the Gemini Advanced subscription being an option. That said I’m probably gonna pick one up if I can find them at a good price cause it seems like a great phone in general
I have no idea what should i get. I have an iphone 13 for some time already. I want to upgrade to 16 pro max because if i'm gonna upgrade at least i'm gonna take the best phone on the market so i can skip for a few more generations. But pixel 9 pro xl? Looks like a temptation
I bought an iPhone 16 Pro Max, but it has a lot of bugs on iOS 18. However, am not facing the same issue in my old iPhone 13mini (also in iOS18) and It's weird.
Ma Bell once made sturdy telephone booths with all the privacy Superman needed to change into a crime fighting costume. He can't do it with an iPhone or a Pixel.
⚠️Surprised with this review from Android authority !⚠️ How many times did state that iPhone lacked AI but in NO point did he discuss the amazing AI and showcase the features from Google Pixel.?Why did he do this? More worried that it was missing from IPhone! What is this Apple Authority ? 👎🤬🤬
I have the S24 Ultra and was considering both the iPhone 16 Pro Max and the Pixel 9 XL because the s24 ultra is so good its boring. I spent 20 minutes with the iPhone in the store and asked the person next to me, "Please, can you tell me what the hype is about? I just don't get it." The home screen feels cluttered, and the navigation doesn't seem like a cohesive experience to me. So, I bought the 9 XL, and I love the image editing features. It also gives me Gemini Advanced on both phones peformance wise s24 ultra faster but if you dont open apps side by side you would never know
Is it just me or am I seeing that the video on Pixel looked better than the iPhones when it comes to stabilization and clarity in those shots specifically
Great comparison ! Thank you . I started out with android but became a dedicated iphone user for the past 5 years only because my family all use iphones and being able to receive pictures and videos of my grandchildren is a must however I’m excited RCS is changing that 🙌🏻 I couldn’t agree with you more on how long it takes to go through settings on an iphone and i agree the photo app on iphone is a complete mess . So frustrating. I’m sure there’s a lot of features on my iphone I’ll never use because I can’t see them 😂. I miss the ease and fun of android .
I go back and forth between Pixel and iPhone, although it's been Pixels for me for past few years since I'm on Google Fi. Having said that I'm hoping to go back to iPhone this time around. The main reasons are the cameras! Pixel improved the selfie camera, but iPhone now has the new photographic styles. I think this takes away the Pixel advantage when it comes to photos. iPhone is much better with video and the 5x camera, while better on Pixel, makes the iPhone Pro (regular) a better deal. I have the Pixel 8 Pro, so I'm good for now anyway, but I will switch to the iPhone Pro if/when I can.
Im trying to move away from apple and I traded my apple watch ultra 2 with Garmin epix pro gen 2 sapphire and Im getting used to it. The only thing thats holding me back with iphone is face ID! I really want google or samsung implement face id in their next phone and I will happily switch to android.
Googles version of Face unlock mixed with the ultrasonic thumbprint is kind of awesome. Don't mix Google's face unlock up with other phones, it's actually fast and is biometric secure so it works on all banking apps, payments etc. In very low light you use the thumbprint which is fast.... I doubt they will bring back nor do I want Apple Facebook if it requires the notch/dynamic island. The hole is too big lol (They had it in the Pixel 4 XL)
I think this was a very fair comparison. As a person who has both, Pixel is my Preference but I have always preferred Android. However I think whats interesting is people dont realize how similar they really are. Apple is no longer the easier to use smoother phone, they are equal. Pixel is a much Smarter phone with a better modem. Apple has a better SOC with a stronger history, and a little more physical refinement.
I sure do miss pixels superior voice typing, I'm hoping apple intelligence can bring phones voice typing within range of pixels. It's so bad on iPhone that it's almost intolerable.
I'm an iPhone user and I'm really pised at Apple for Apple intelligence. I'm French and it will take almost 9 months before I have it in french. I had a perfect iPhone 13 pro max witch I switch for the iPhone 15 pro max just because of Apple intelligence capabilities, now I wish I didn't change my phone at all. I write a lot to clients in English and French and AI was a big concern for me. Apple lost my confidence. I feel like I was lied to.
Without emotion I think the iPhone is the better phone in real life because it checks all the boxes while the Pixel doesn’t with mediocre soc and not the best video recording. Also the iPhone is pretty bulletproof while the Pixel has its issues from what I’ve read on forums.
The Pixel 9 pro may have a lower benchmark chip, but in real world test it was able to keep its performance higher than the iPhones in extreme conditions. Also if you think the iPhone has two cool colors just change them in the styles option
Eh, I have the 3 latest "Big 3 phones" hardware wise, I like the iPhone, but overall, I like my S24 Ultra. My Pixel 9 Pro seems to have GPS issues, which keeps me from wanting to use it full time
Guarantee there's going to be a mouth breather commenting that "Tensor isn't a flagship processor" how will people ever be able to play Candy Crush or watch Instagram without having the absolute bleeding edge of processing power
Great comparison. The only thing I have of Apple is their 12.9 m1 chip iPad. Their tablets are still the best. But both Samsung and Google beat the iPhone hands down.
google must give up on tensor processors. they are co-manufactured by samsung and just like exynos it's just meh and for the price point, the high-end flagship model, it is not acceptable.
An underpowered chip with a hefty price tag is just totally ridiculous. Better buy should be Samsung with powerful chip and with all AI features that you expect from Pixel. Pixel is just overprice, even iphones seems to have better value for money.
In this video, the speaker is comparing Google's Pixel 9 Pro XL and Apple's iPhone 16 Pro Max. Both phones are the most expensive slab style phones offered by their respective companies. The Google Pixel 9 Pro XL starts at $1,099 for 128GB of storage and offers 7 years of updates, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max starts at $1,199 for 256GB of storage and is estimated to also offer 7 years of updates. In terms of design, both phones are quite similar, but the Pixel 9 Pro XL has a more modern camera housing design and a SIM card slot, which is not available on iPhones in the United States. The displays on both phones are also comparable, but the iPhone 16 Pro Max has slimmer bezels and an always-on display. The Pixel 9 Pro XL has a brighter display, with a peak brightness of 3,000 nits compared to the iPhone's 2,000 nits. In terms of camera quality, both phones take excellent photos, but the speaker prefers the Pixel's more realistic color processing. The iPhone 16 Pro Max still reigns supreme in video recording, with better stabilization and dynamic range. The speaker also found the battery life on both phones to be comparable, with both lasting a full day and getting between 7 and 8 hours of screen-on time. The software experience is a matter of personal preference, but the speaker found Android 14 to be more refined than iOS 18. Overall, the speaker believes that the Pixel 9 Pro XL is a better phone than the iPhone 16 Pro Max, offering a more modern design, comparable camera quality, and a more refined software experience.
Compared to what hauwei is packing! Google battery life is dire too. So right now apple wins better battery better and stronger screen and the best video recording

Yes! And iPhones hold their value MUCH better!
@@MikeShawTVonly for the pro models
Preach⛪🛐 Take em to church. Apple iPhone 16 Pro Max is the clear winner.
I think the pricing is a miss for Google. Their hardware shouldn’t be fetching flagship prices, especially with the Gemini Advanced subscription being an option. That said I’m probably gonna pick one up if I can find them at a good price cause it seems like a great phone in general
You can easily get it discounted. If you pay full price you are messing up.
their pixel trade in deals are fantastic plus you get store credit. i got 540 for my old pixel 7
Honestly I got mine for $900 as it was on a discount. So worth it.
I have no idea what should i get. I have an iphone 13 for some time already. I want to upgrade to 16 pro max because if i'm gonna upgrade at least i'm gonna take the best phone on the market so i can skip for a few more generations. But pixel 9 pro xl? Looks like a temptation
Unless you're doing pro work on these phones (which you shouldn't be), none of this really matters. It's perfectly fine for 99.9% of the population.
9 pro XL no contest!
8:22 You have the video switched around Pixel zoom on the left stutters a little while on the right should be the iPhone smooth zoom.
Surprising that you'd choose a full wallpaper AOD as the better one. I wouldn't want that distraction nor power use if I don't need it.
The difference is that you can disable it to the clock only too. I use mine with the wallpaper though and it looks so cool.
He failed to mention the iPhones front facing camera is only 12mp and the pixels front facing camera is 42mp
Do benchmarks really matter anymore? I only care that the phone is running smoothly.
Last iphone 15 pro max beat pixel 8 pro with it camera and battery life and now pixel 9 pro XL beat 💤 iphone 16 pro max with all new upgrades/design 😮
Cope harder 😊
I'd pick up the Pixel.
Wil you switch?
Without emotion I think the iPhone is the better phone in real life because it checks all the boxes while the Pixel doesn’t with mediocre soc and not the best video recording. Also the iPhone is pretty bulletproof while the Pixel has its issues from what I’ve read on forums.
The Pixel 9 pro may have a lower benchmark chip, but in real world test it was able to keep its performance higher than the iPhones in extreme conditions. Also if you think the iPhone has two cool colors just change them in the styles option
Use a 10x and 30x zoom and look which better. And why you have forgotten the Video Boost!?!?
Nice to see some pics from Berlin ❤
Hoping to see panorama test
Pixel 9 Pro for the Win 🏆
Apple may be the lesser evil when it comes to privacy but I'm not sure
Your home screen looks so clean on that pixel 👀
I own both. I find ups and downs for both. Overall they are both great. I prefer iPhone overall, but Pixel is nice.
Pixel 9.not pro my pick.
If pixel had snapdragon chip , there will be no competitors in the market🤣
Google did great this year
Eh, I have the 3 latest "Big 3 phones" hardware wise, I like the iPhone, but overall, I like my S24 Ultra.
But I need to see how many apps I can open in twenty seconds and then swipe closed because that's what everyone does with their phones 😂😂
Lol comical but true
No 04:30 the always on actual stays on the google pixel even in low light. The always on display on the iPhone turns off in low light.
In my opinion, these phones are not the best that can be produced, but the best that has been produced so far.
Am here only for this Guy's British Accent, 😂 'The Fo'os on the Pixel'
Great comparison. The only thing I have of Apple is their 12.9 m1 chip iPad. Their tablets are still the best. But both Samsung and Google beat the iPhone hands down.
Android rules 💪🏻
Currently watching on my iPhone 16 pro max ❤
2024 still no decent mp3 player on Android, sad. I'll stick with Samsung.
too bad one must sell their home to afford one
Pixels will be way cheaper by late November at latest.
Work and save ur money like everyone else and u can buy one
@@Dannyv1987 are you living in la la land?
@AnnonyMOusIE must be with my awesome phones
Don’t pick, buy both
Every big phone reviewer the pixel is colder then iphone what's going on 😂
Neither.. I currently own an S21 Plus. It does absolutely everything I need a phone for.
The biggest issue with Pixel smartphones - their screen PWM flickering eye strain 😭😢. Pixel phones are amongst the worst in this aspect.
google must give up on tensor processors. they are co-manufactured by samsung and just like exynos it's just meh and for the price point, the high-end flagship model, it is not acceptable.
True!
Pixel all the way. 🔥
An underpowered chip with a hefty price tag is just totally ridiculous. Better buy should be Samsung with powerful chip and with all AI features that you expect from Pixel. Pixel is just overprice, even iphones seems to have better value for money.
7:56 what is going on with the iPhone here?
why do I think Android Authority are really Apple fanboys acting as if they use Android?
Yeah he sure prefers a lot of apple stuff for a guy on this channel
Pixel for the W
Just get an s24 ultra (or wait for the 25 ultra) and be happy you have the best phone out. Period 👍
Loads of L take in this video. AA has really fallen.
Wish the pixel 9 would have lidar camera.
Wait...... The iphone still can't multi window split screen still? Yikes.......... major yikes........
and the voice dictation is dog shit on iPhone, over all iPhone has been very steady and good to me but a few things have got to give !
0:14 The iphone is clearly be’Ah
What is a baser???
The google pixel 9 pro is still hella buggy. Hopefully future updates will address it.
Pixel bc it’s android….idk if I need to say anything else 😂
128GB for 7 years 😂 the apps are not getting smaller + the personal media
256GB as not base storage in a phone that's $1000+ is nuts from both sides
@@Carnyzzlethat why I'm using s10+ and note 10+. SD cards and jack are so good.
Hahaha that always on display comment is hilarious.
Compared to what hauwei is packing! There phones have ten times more scratch resistant kunlan glass, it's four times more drop resistant, camarad battery and fast charging and yet Google still packing there phones with outdated tech and charging top doller. apples ecosystem and chips are my far the greatest, they have stronget ceramic sheild this year, and better cameras and the best video recording, Ai is a bit far fetched. Google battery life is dire too. So right now apple wins better battery better and stronger screen and the best video recording
I wouldn't trade my S24 Ultra for any of those!
I traded mine for the Pixel 9 Pro XL , only downside is that it's not great for gaming but everything else it's way more fun to use and love it way more than Sammy
@@LTEAndroid Second this. I made a change from S24U to P9PXL and I do not regret this decision. Rocking pixel for more than a month now and still feel very happy with it.
@LTEAndroid I've done Samsung to Pixel before and initially I felt the same. It didn't take long for that fun to disappear! It could be different this time though
S24 ultra gang ❤
iPhone 15 pro max can beat Pixel 9 Pro XL.
Am I crazy or did the pixel video "look' better. It was a lot more crisp and colorful. Of course as soon as it start moving or zooming, it goes to shit but if they can finnaly fix that, I feel like it can go toe to toe with the iphone in video.
And it could, if they would use Video boost!!
Anyone know where those video clips were taken?
Yes I took them! They were all taken on a trip to Berlin
@@1PaulJ I thought it looked like Berlin, but the birds in the video threw me off, Avocets and Terns in Berlin? Do you remember the location?
5:56 ... What happened to the iPhone? Looks like its shot with a 🥔 camera
I dunno, what do you think people that watch a channel called ANDROIDauthority?
Just got the iPhone 16 pro no regrets
Without emotion I think the iPhone is the better phone in real life because it checks all the boxes while the Pixel doesn’t with mediocre soc and not the best video recording. Also the iPhone is pretty bulletproof while the Pixel has its issues from what I’ve read on forums. Personally I don’t the like the Pixel UI and some Google apps and prefer Samsung OneUi which is more mature and lots of features.
You posted this twice.
No micro SD is q big downfall of modern phones though
I own Pixel 9 pro XL
Pixel win
um no i like the way our always on display is. we are not apple or samsung
Now campare pixel 9 pro to iphone 16 pro
Never been an iPhone guy. Just order Pixel 9 Pro XL. Love my current Pixel 6
Non. Way too expensive.
Pixel 9 pro 💯👍💥
