What do you think is the best way to make the match feel exciting?

The health thing in Guilty Gear has been an interesting revelation when someone told me about it. It's such a small thing but it really does make you feel like you're clutching it out, even though you got 20-30% left.

Fighting games are chess but 10× faster. What drives people to fighting games is the hype and storylines it creates. Remember Rangchu won the Tekken World Tour in 2017 with Panda and Panda was regarded as one of the worst characters in Tekken 7 or Sonic Fox and his epic rivalry with Go1 in Dragon Ball FighterZ or Emery Reigns does his trademark backflip during a DOA 5 tournament. No other game genre bring that much excitement and build up than fighting games. Fighting games is and will always be the game I enjoy the most. Hell even hosting the tournament in your house generates hype. Not as the World Tour, Combo Breaker and Evo hype but hype to create storylines and rivalries with your friends.

One thing that was omitted but I think is really important is that basically every hype factor that happens in the match needs to be rare to at least some extent to actually do its job. People would quickly get tired of super cinematics if the match was interrupted every 10 seconds by a cutscene, nobody would like danger time if it happened constantly, and we've all seen enough x factor vergil comebacks to know why you shouldn't overtune a comeback mechanic, these things are only exciting because they don't happen often.
I would also add difficult to land or just generally risky moves to the list of hype stuff, like guilty gear/blazblue IKs, sol's dragon install, yoshimitsu's seppuku, the timestops in hftf and the like, these moves are hype because you know how expensive or dangerous it is to be throwing them out yet the players are willing to use them anyway

Cinematic supers are great. People coming together to Raise the Rufus during SSFIV was fun.
And for CR Cup #4, Dogura kept encouraging Hinano to make Ed's SA3 noises with him, prompting her team to join in the more she landed it during the scrims.

Great video! I enjoy comeback mechanics when they don't feel too overbearing. I think X-factor lvl 3 is an example that was a bit too far in my opinion.

Sometimes it can be a new game, DLC characters or a season update
