- Half sheet Makita sander have to be one if the most reliable tools on the market.
They can run for decades before ever needing any repairs. But when they do need repaired, it's nearly always the paper clamps that need repaired.
This 9045 makita sander is not holding the sandpaper in place. Problem is the alu base has worn away and needs replaced.
At 50euro it's an expensive part, but considering the sander is 300 euro to buy and this has been running for 26 years, it's well worth repairing.

My DHR 242 stopped working. Thanks to you and your videos I felt confident I could fix it. Turned out the spur gear had seized into the cam shaft. Ordered spare parts and rebuilt it. Now it is working like a charm. All thanks to you!
You’re a top bloke Dean. You deserve to be successful. Your vids are the best on UA-cam. I’ve watched a lot of tool service vids but nothing as good as yours.
Totally agree mate.. top-notch 👍
Now you are making me feel old I am still using the old one with the spring clamps,I purchased it brand new in 1980 when I was 20 and it has never missed a beat. Love your vids and look forward to seeing each new one.
Nothing quite like a great working sander. Nice one Dean.
Absolutely facinating videos to watch. Great in depth information on the tool, good points and bad. Also which spares from other machines will fit on as well. Ive just replaced my 27 year old Bosch PSS 23 as parts i need are discontinued and not available anymore. Bearing has gone, melted inner motor housing and worn sanding base too. Amazing work as always Dean. Thank you for all your knowledge and tips too. 👍🍻
Always puts the customers first I’m sure it’s appreciated Thanks Dean
You have been educating enthusiasts so much Mr Dean. Thanks
Great repairs at sensible prices.
Your customers are lucky to have such a knowledgeable tech.
I really appreciate the detailed engineering explanations of the operation of the tools that you repair.
A question though.
I had a smaller Makita hand sized orbital sander that included a puncture plate for each new sand paper to aid sawdust extraction
I assume it's the same for this machine?
You're a better man than me Dean; I would have chucked it back with the dust bag as full as it was when it was handed in.
ok mr.bravo. GREECE...
Hi Dean,
I've opened up a friends scaffold nut gun - DTW285.
The bearing on the rotor is gone - is it a new rotor jobby or is their a way for a new bearing to be put on the rotor.
Thanks for all the makita content you make, I couldn't find a previous video with obvious signs of you working on the DTW285 or DTW300.
Thanks thumbs up.
You can change the rear bearing but the front is normaly behind the gear. So a new rotor if that goes
@@deandohertygreaser It is the front bearing that collapsed. Thank you for your response Dean.
Rotor ordered at £40 better than new at £160 for the newer DTW300. It's crazy how many people i've come across that are so ditsy to not register their Makita tools on the site to get the 3 year warranty as opposed to 1 year.
Have you had a look at the Hikoki compact wrench WR18DHW2Z that competes with this wrench?
It's water resistant (IP56 rated) and has a 5 year warranty if registered. I wonder if they have their own service centre like Makita in Milton Keynes or just send warranty repairs to local independent shops like yours.
Thanks again Dean.
Morning dean keep up good work with videos enjoying them heap favourite channel
Is that dust bag really going to do any good?
There are no holes in the paper, nor in the base.
Maybe it just keeps the area around the bearings dust free?
Nice job as usual, love your work. Did I miss the bearing press repair video? Noticing no leaks now....
Not yet!
80 quid for that plated foam is highway robbery
80 quid? 😱 I'd be putting my own foam on that plate, but then again I would have ground those chamfers flat and adapted the paper clamps, being tight has its benefits 😁
1) I quickly found similar but non-OEM pads. Prices from €30 to £45. I understand the many reasons why Dean uses original parts, but still ... Makita, be reasonable. I have a similar problem for my Festool sanders, at least double the price for OEM compared to Chinesium parts - and the cheap ones are comparatively specked/quality.
2) This sander is most probably used by a pro, but why is he/she using non-perforated paper? Had it been me and I couldn't get inexpensive paper that are actually made for this model, I'd make a simple wooden jig with holes located at the extraction holes found on the pad and just punched a stack of papers ...
Maybe he lost the punch jig that comes with the unit.
@@Utuber-x44 had no idea about that
Have you fixed the workshop press yet, or is it still leaking oil?
Still leaking slightly. So I'll fix it when it brakes 😂
Dean with al your knowledge you should word for your self 🎉🎉🎉
Top repair as always Dean. I suppose you could replace that foam pad with a piece of Mdf?
Skf is a Swedish brand of bearing. Expensive and high quality little overpriced though
Must be a relieve after those milwaukee crap.
Could you not have just bent the clamping pieces in a bit to save the customer a bit of money on replacing the base?
Have you ever used a magnetic dish to hold the screws and small parts when you take something apart?

EIGHTY EURO FOR THAT FOAM BASE !!! WOW MAKITA...COME ON...HIGHWAY ROBBERY...YOU SHOULD BE EMBARRASSED !!!
My Dear Brother Dean, is the older model with spring clips Model 9045 N ?
As someone else mentioned in a comment, any trick to punch holes in sandpaper by the meter? Make a stencil perhaps or just note where the holes are and make holes with a screwdriver ghetto style?
@@gplusgplus2286 make a stencil, punch holes with anything you've got, I happen to have a set of hollow punches in different sizes, AUD $30, works great on sandpaper.
Morning Dean any update on the cordless grinder review, just enquiring for Santa Claus lol.
What's worse, Dean is that someone born in 2006 can get served in a pub!!
How do I learn how to do this?
Like all new things, you just need to start doing it. The rest us just learning as you go.
It always boggles my mind when companies change their working tools for non as good working ones.
Thanks for the breakdown! Just a quick off-topic question: My OKX wallet holds some USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). Could you explain how to move them to Binance?
how are you
You mean how the hell are you folks!
@@Drottninggatan2017 ohhhhhhhh
