- I am back with this test video featuring the Amazing Wilderness Camp Chair, the World Famous Cook Kit and the Amazing Wilderness Shelter. A new microphone on a new camera shot a video that I have edited on new software running on a new operating system. If you are reading this then I must have been successful at getting it all to work.
I have been lost for a few years now. I lost my interest in upgrading camera equipment, computer equipment and editing software because my computer operating system updated or UA-cam changed something. The fate of my channel was uncertain as I battled with multiple software and hardware issue trying to upgrade everything one more time. I have completed no less than 4 complete equipment and software upgrades since the Econo Challenge UA-cam channel was created in 2007. Each one requiring more processor speed, better camera resolution and always a media change. I have gone from High 8 tape to DV tape to memory cards. None of it is backwards compatible, supported or built to last. Lost files, corrupt sectors or defective memory replace wrinkled tape and dirty play heads.
Then you have the extra support equipment needed to continue shooting for days without access to modern infrastructure. Solar panels need to connect to battery banks so they can charge camera and microphone batteries. Don’t forget the cables and connectors that go with it all. Over time I have slowly created a complicated system to capture and bring back images and video from the wilderness. I realized I was no longer enjoying the creative process. I was dreading it.
Hopefully, this trend turns around.
You will enjoy this video series if you hike, backpack, trek, paddle, kayak, climb, pedal, wilderness camp, or love it all!

If you run the tarp to the ground on both sides and close off the rear portion and make the tarp material reflective, you've got a very very toasty warm shelter when using a small fire out front. You can sleep all night while sitting in the chair without a sleeping bag or pad. It becomes your sleep system as well as shelter, all in one. Good to see you again.
Hey Lonnie. I am very glad you mentioned this. We have noticed that you feel a lot warmer in front of the fire with the tarp over the chair and the back snaps closed. Similar physics to why the super shelter is so warm I think. I hope we get a chance to chat more now that I am back online again. How are you doing these day?
@@EconoChallenge I am doing great. Connie and I both are doing great. We have ourselves taken a step back from our UA-cam channel at this time. But we are doing great. We have made many good friends online such as yourself and it is always good to catch up on how everyone is doing. Hope you and your loved ones are also doing fine.
Great to see you again..
It is really good to see everyone in the comments again. Thank you for coming by for a visit.
Jeep! Cool format. I was at 3:45 before I realized you hadn't said a word. A bit like hanging around camp with a friend. Brilliant innovations as always.
That is awesome feedback David. My wife said something similar. It was like she was out there with me while watching it. That was what I was going for. Very cool feedback. Thank you.
Wonderful to see you out Jeep! It has been a rough couple of years for everyone, and the global affairs are scary to say the least, so spending time in Nature is the very best remedy! Your videos, gear reviews, and meal reviews are terrific, not to mention all the stuff you have made, so I hope you will be able to make more of them. I use to get UA-cam notices in my e-mail but now I have to check the bell. My health keeps me close to home and very limited in what I can physically do, but I am lucky that wildlife comes to me. Take care, Ossie
Hey Ossie. So good to see you in the comments my friend. You are right about the last two years. Almost three years now. Crazy time all over the world. I have been going out into the wild regularly, I have not been taking the camera equipment. What I was shooting was just depressing stuff. I needed a break to figure out why I was adding content to this channel. In the end I am realizing I was missing people like you. It feels good to say Hi Ossie.
I haven't shot much video either, I can still take daily walks but my health has stopped the camping and kayaking. All our bushcraft skills might come in handy this winter. Please know your videos were missed Jeep.
Good to see you out again. UK greetings.
Hey, thanks!
Nice kit! Staunchly minimalist, just like you Jeep :)
Good to see you in the comments Scott. I like to keep it simple in the wild to balance out my urban life.
Good seeing you!
Good to see you also. I am really seeing how much I missed everyone these past few ... years really.
Luv your innovative vids. I’ve been using your camp chair design with an enlarged green garbage leaf bag: I just cut two vertical 2-3” inch slits in the bottom of the bag, tie the ties up top and slide the bottom stabilizer stick thru the bottom slits. Very comfy and a frugal use of a common multi use garbage bag☮️🥳 Ciao Bro 😎
The first chairs we made were from recovered burlap coffee sacks. Very similar to your idea. We just cut slits in the bottom of the bag on each side to slide the bottom stick through. I loved the recycling angle of the project. Very bulky to carry so the idea never took off.
Cool setup
Great to see you again! I’ve always enjoyed seeing all the cool things that you share and the honest reviews. I hope it won’t be another nine months for your next video, but if it is, I’ll wait patiently. Take care!
No way. I will not be making anyone wait. I have several videos shot and ready to edit this time. So far my computer is co-operating. Thanks for dropping a comment. Good to see you.
Great to see you back. I hope you get your challenges conquered. The chair tarp is brilliant! Thank you for the video, Jeep. Stay safe and stay cool
Seeing everyone again is giving me some new drive to keep pushing through the computer issues. Thanks for coming back for a visit.
Glad to see you back out there.
Thank you for the visit.
It's great to see you again!!
Hey, thanks!
Welcome back Jeep! So glad to see some new videos from you. It was great to see you using the old stove setup. My favourite stove of any type is an alcohol stove that I run with Methyl Hydrate. I read your notes below and I get where you are coming from. It takes a lot of gear and effort to put out videos. You need to be in the mood for it too. I have been sort of taking a break this summer from editing videos. I have upgraded a lot of my gear but this summer was weird for producing videos. I'm about to upload a moose / vehicle collision video in the next week or so. Part of the reason I was taking a break. I hope you get the desire and drive back to make more videos. I see some of your commenters are people I have followed but not heard from in a while.........Take care, Bluefin.
One thing I know now is how much I missed you guys. People I have never met in person but still feel like I know a little about them and look forward to seeing them in the comments. One of the benefits of plowing through all the technology troubles we have to deal with.
Been A Spell, Jeep, Editing Is Spot On Buddy ! Thanks For The Tea, Hap-E Labor Day Friend ! ATB T God Bless
Terry! Good to see you my friend.
Very cool teepee cover
Ya. Simple right? This is another great idea that came from a viewer.
Good to see you again Jeep!! Take care.
Thanks, you too!
Good job!
Thank you! Cheers!
Good to see some of the old equipment back in use. I still have my DIY camp chair made from your plans and idea. Haven't actually used it in a while... I read your video description, pain in the butt keeping up with the technology isn't it. I've not been doing much either, guess we all slow down in time but... I have purchased a ZOOM recorder and microphone so plans are in my head to start with video again too... Good luck with you setup, hope to see more of you.....
Hey Jim, I am glad there is someone else out there who understand the challenge of keeping up with technology changes. I missed seeing you guys. Thanks for dropping in for a visit.
Sweet
Very clever and a nifty idea. AA+
Glad you liked it!
Very good but I missed the convo.
Needed more jeep time.
But happy to see you.
Be well
Craig
Hey Craig. Good to see you my friend. I am trying to be a bit more chatty in my videos that will be uploaded soon. I am on a role with this editing software and want to keep going before a computer update takes me down again.
@@EconoChallenge good to be seen. I will look forward to those for sure. Lol, I hear ya brother.
I was looking over all the ol channels of the old school bushcrafters and how most are pretty done uploading and you were one of the few still tricking out vids and then you upload. It was good timing 😊
Hey Jeep. Great to see you back in Mother Nature's Therapy Center. I know that your AW Chair and AW Poncho are in your product line, as is the AW TCP (cap). Why don't you give some thought to producing a AW Camp Stove and AW finger hot pad as well. I know that I need these products in my kit and would buy them as soon as you had them online.
Hey Ron. Good to see you my friend. The cook kit would be an interesting project. Lots of parts to come together.
Good to see you back. I hope you keep putting out video's. I always enjoy your content.
Thank you for that feedback. It keeps me going.
Interesting viewpoint that others omit. Update.....everything....backwards compatibility zero. My wife is accountant!!!computer supporting her over time is huge like your experience. You know the difference that keeps her sane? She can print out all files! Permanent, within ink limits, retrievable on any table, editable in bin or bank! Old-school flies! Digital suckz! Totally agree! Maybe do paintings? Take cafe, enjoy,be patient, all the best from northern Ontario!
Just knowing you and your wife feel my pain helps so much. Thank you for sharing.
You were missed🌞
Hey you. Thank you for dropping in for a visit. You should come see this place in person some day.
👍👍
He's alive wahooo
Yup. I made it through the last two crazy years somehow.
Man it's been a super long time! I'm working on a new video as well... Lol I think I haven't put a video out in 3 years or so
Things have been a little crazy for the past three years. It does feel good to chat with everyone again. I need to enjoy the editing process again and that is a challenge when every upgrade you have to learn how to do things all over again. I hope your process is error free. LOL
What a relaxing time Jeep and that shelter is pretty slick. What was your windscreen made out of?
Nate
I use a oven liner from the dollar store. I cut it down to the size I need. This one has lasted 6 years and counting.
