After watching the full video. I am still stuck between the 60ed, 72ed Horizon or the sky watcher 72ed evostar 😅.
But that 60ed portability in mind, I am really keen on.
Personally I would go for the 60ED package, you'll have everything you need and you have a spare cash for the 0.8x Field Flattener and Reducer upgrade.
@@MPAstro Thanks, I shall check stock and get it. :) its the only missing bit on a portable set up I planned. Plus the reducer. Told Khatib about this review hahaha
Martin, great review mate. I just bought this after considering more expensive scopes and the quality so far is fantastic. mine didn't have 2nd finder show though which is disappointing. the mystery black knob is tension adjuster but I can't tell any difference. the optics on my MFT is outstanding no issues whatsoever.
It's great scope and RVO service is fantastic!! They have now launched the 80ED version now and this looks very impressive and now comes with a 0.8x FF/FR has I always feel that the 60ED can really benefit this accessory. www.rothervalleyoptics.co.uk/rvo-horizon-80-ed-doublet-refractor-full-imaging-package.html
Would this work for my Canon m50? I’m new to the astronomy community.
Yes it can work, though being a mirrorless camera you'll need M48 spacers to get to the ideal 55mm airgap, if your using the Field Flattener with this scope. However you can attach the camera directly to the telescope if your not using the field flattener.
Thank you for showing the scope in such detail, it's on my wish list. Great images at the end. But the music, urgh, not great.
Sorry about the music, It's not everyone's taste, but thanks for watching and the feedback Richard!! This is such an amazing scope, How you see the 0.8x FF/FR upgrade for this, I have made a video on it
@@MPAstro I think the music surprised me . . . at 4am! But after a few beers, it would be more my taste. I have a 'smart' telescope on order (Dwarf II), and I am already looking for my second. Something for the moon and planets. Would this be suitable do you think? I use a wheelchair, so it needs to be pretty compact. RVO do this on a mount and with cameras. Looks good but is it?! Off to watch more of your videos now.
I don't much know about the DWARF series of telescopes, but it seems they are more suited for deepsky rather than planetary imaging. If you want image planets you cannot go wrong with a ZWO ASI 120MC-S or 224MC-S camera, these are very fast high frame rate cameras designed for capturing planets, these can be coupled up to any telescope, and you get better results in your images. Planets do not require high demanding tracking mounting, but I have a look for a possible mount for wheel chair use. At moment I making a video which I'll launch today which features an unique and extreme modification, which may upset a few viewers in the process!! I think you might like this one!!
There's no better reviewer of astronomy kit. 'Nuff said.
Always stick to truth and don't lie to your fans who support your channel!! I always say!! A few bigger Astro channels need to get grip and stay focus on Astronomy as an interest to community and not just for views, likes , subs and more money from sponsors!!
@@MPAstro Yeah well said, I agree with that. Gotta keep it real!! Happy New Year to you Martin & Clear Skies!
Another great video martin 👍
I wish my photos would come out like yours lol
Thanks 👍
I recently purchased the horzion 60ED but I cannot get any kind of focus with my ZWO asi224 camera I've added a 2" extension tube but still no focus, I'm trying to set it up in the day on a distant object to get some idea where infinity is on the scope but I'm getting nothing. Hope someone can help. Thanks
I had a similar problem with my ZWO ASI120 with the 60ED, I end up having to put a 2" Mirror Diagonal, however the focuser was sill quite abit extended. This telescope is intially designed for imaging use for a typical DSLR camera where there is a 44mm to 45mm backfocus to the sensor. I would seek advice to Rother Valley Optics, email or phone them first they will help.
Also I like add, if you are using the field flattener, you must use spacers to achieve the ideal backfocus of 55mm, the ZWO 224 camera backfocus is 12.5mm so you need to add 42.5mm of extension tubes to get the ZWO camera focus right.
It seems that you are testing the camera during the day I'm guessing. The ZWO ASI224 is very sensitive camera, and combiined with this scope being a fast imaging F6, If your using Sharpcap, you need to lower the gain and exposure quite alot, as the image is totally white washed, sometimes that doesn't even help, so I have had to use a solar filter to reduce the light coming in to then achieve an image, I know you mak a specal lens cap using tin foil, there you pirece a small pin hole at the dead centre, here you allow a small amount of daylight through enough, where your image will not be white washed, again you have to adjust the settings on Sharpcap to get the right balance!!
Thanks Martin for taking the time to reply, I tried everything with the camera, set the exposure as low as it would go set the gain to zero and slowly upped the exposure but no focus, Rother valley suggested I use a 2 inch extension which I tried but it didn't help, I've thought about a star diagonal but would there be back focus issue between the sensor and the mirror.
Thanks again for the help I will contact Rother valley, there must be a fix for this.
Not a problem, Does the telescope achieve focus with the eyepiece used in it, and is the ZWO camera worked before, or is this a brand new camera??? Just trying to iron out the questions which RVO might ask. I must admit that this is quite unusual for this fault to usually happen and most of time the telescope does achieve focus with the 50mm extension tube. I know that my focus draw tube on the telescope as 90mm travel, does yours have too??
Thanks Martin. What a nice piece of kit. I will seriously consider budgeting for this one. Good thorough review. Well done.
Glad it was helpful!
Another thorough review of what looks like a fantastic scope. Thx Martin, great video and lovely pics to compliment.
Many thanks AstroPix UK, it took a whole year to make this video, but so enjoyed this little scope!! A must have for my collection!!!
Ahh some top class bedtime viewing from my mate, great to see you at it Martin. best regards Tim @ #TBAIC
Glad you enjoyed the video Tim!!
Thank You so much for doing this great review! I have been debating in my head whether to buy a RVO brand Refractor, or get a second mortgage out on my house to afford a Takahashi Refractor!!?? LOL. Seriously though, if those RVO Refractors are being made to standards as good as in this video, then I think unless you are a Millionaire with no money worries, then you would be a fool to spend £THOUSANDS on a Takahashi Refractor when you can get an almost as good RVO Refractor for a fraction of the cost of the TAK' !!?? I will now DEFINITELY be buying an RVO Refractor!! Thank You so much for literally saving me £THOUSANDS in costs for my new imaging rig!! Wes, Liverpool UK.
Totally agree 100% Wesley, Astro gear is so expensive and the Top UA-camr Astro videos you see, how they review expensive stuff but to make out like it is afforable for many, they don't get it at all, that most of us cannot afford this level of equipment, it makes me wonder how baised their views really are, overrated and damn right lies!! Here in my channel give a realistic approach to the reviews has best I can, of course Im never going to make everyone happy, but I will make most accurate review possible. And with this new RVO HORIZON products these will be the best value for high grade optics, I've had to return the RVO 72 ED, but I've bought the RVO 60ED, the awesome colour correction from a FPL-53 Doublet glass is simply amazing and I have been testing it out with WO 61 Field Reducer Flattener which can be uprated to staggering F4.8 focal ratio. OK not the fastest optics in that range, but comes really close to Sharpstar 61 and the disappointing Raptor 61 (AKA BS telescope) at F4.5
@@MPAstro Absolutely true! They review products that are just too expensive for 99% of people! As you say our hobby is hideously expensive so we need much more content like yours which demo's more affordably priced astro gear! many more people will enter the hobby if they can reasonably expect to be able afford it! So thank you once again and I look forward to you viewing more of your large catalogue of videos my friend! ( I'm a new Subscriber having only found your channel about 1 week ago! ) Wes.
Thanks, Martin - great review. Like the images! Well done!
My pleasure! Peter
Nobody knows what the knob on the top is for 😀😀😀
Thanks for your input, this knob still remains a mystery!!
@@MPAstro it's tension adjustment for camera but barely noticeable
Brilliant just brilliant do I go with the 60mm or the 72mm RVO
Keep watching Robert, both scopes are good, but later on this video I know which one you'll choose!!!
I'm really excited whitch one do you think
I've got the skywatcher star adventure and I'm thinking of whight and just need advice m8

@@robertwilson6918 Sorry for not replying back, I couldn't action messages during the live video, but now I can answer your questions?? 60ED mate WITHOUT NO QUESTION!!
