    Great info Martin. I use 1.25” filters with my ASI294mm pro with no issues at all. Thats only a 4/3rds sensor and the larger APSC sensor on my 2600 i need 36mm unmounted. Costs are crazy so budget ideas are really needed, well done mate

      Thanks for watching and sharing your experiences, some of the comments have been both positive and negative!! I know some viewers don't agree that 1.25" filters are not suitable for APSC sensors and to be honest who cares what they think, I'm only trying my best to help people and even I show proof of this on my video, it's still not good enough for them.
      However like you mentioned above, you proved that 1.25" will work with other sensors as well and this 2" filter rule which some people it's the only way to go, is complete nonsense!!
      End of the day there no rules in Astrophotography, and prices have increased so much that people in the real world are struggling to cope and this video maybe the solution for them!!

    Thanks once again Martin. Quite a complicated area to discuss and show with all the different filter thicknesses etc.

      Glad it was helpful Steve! It was not an easy task, but the real evidence is always backed up and prove that 1.25" filters are not useless!! If people did their home work, you can save a ton of money in the process, this video proves what can be done and I hope it helps so many people in the process. Yes the start of the video is quite boring to be honest, but this an real Astronomy channel and this subject is very techincal, but I can guarantee you that someone will face this problem at some point later when they go for Astrophotography.

    Same experience ... started with 2" Optolong 'L' series DSLR, and then as I moved to dedicated astro cameras with high pixel density and smaller sensor chips - have been only purchasing 1.25" filters ... especially for my recently purchase of an electronic filter wheel. Great video!

      I'll be honest with you 2" filters are very expensive and many times I've listened to the top channels advice particulaly with the Optolong 2" L-Ehance filter, I was very disappointed with this filter being a Narrowband for colour cameras, I find this filter very furstrating to use, it dims the all the stars and leaves the brighter ones bearly visble which is not great when you want to star align the mount, using the camera on the telescope and using live view to focus the star while using a focus mask to get the sharpest focus possible and also you need a minimum of at least 10mins to show the nebula at a very high ISO for camera. Personally if you to image using Narrowband filters, I prefer to use a mono camera for that purpose as Narrowband imaging is alot easier with mono being more sensitive camera. Hence now my QHY183M has all the 1.25" filters of LRGB and Narrowband filters, the amount of money I've saved by getting the 1,25" filters and wheel is literally half the price of 2" format filters and wheel sets. if you seen my video of the QHY183M, here is the link to the video ua-cam.com/video/ff2E1uBw1qA/v-deo.html

      Thank you for your support to my channel Vic, There are few negative comments from a few viewers saying that 1.25" filters do not work with APC-S size sensors, And yet even though I've shown proof of this evidence in my video, that I have totally nailed M31 with the adaption kit, appararently I am wrong with some viewers. Yes there is slight bit of vignetting and I've probraly already explained this at the end of this video, but it is literally only slight and you can always take flat frames to balance it out during stacking. What gets me that there is no limits or rules when Astro-imaging, and I do not care what others think of me, I'm here to help others who are strapped for cash and quick tips like this will help people to enjoy Astronomy and save abit of money in the process. Thanks Vic for watching and I will continue my saga for budget Astronomy. Clears Skies!!

    You can thank US and UK govt and central banks for all our economic problems. Its on purpose. I’m starting to research filters. I don’t want to image in mono so going OSC. I figure a broadband filter for galaxies, and a dual narrow band for nebulas. Maybe the broadband for planets or just an IR cut filter. I’m not planning a APS-S Astronomy camera but will try my Nikon D5100 DSLR.

    Hello, good information! However, I have a doubt, have you had any issues with putting the filters on backwards? I've read in some places that the filters have a side that should be oriented towards the sensor. Thanks!

    • @MPAstro
      @MPAstro  Рік тому

      It just depends on the filter, some you can connect any way, some won't, it's more trial and error, if it doesn't work and you get weird artifacts in your images, then you have to get other way!!

      Totally agree Small Optics!!! I've come across so many people say that what is the point of having 1.25" filters they strongly feel that 2" is only way to go!! Personally filters are very expensive and prices massively jump up at the 2" variant of filters, which is totally a rip-off and I cannot justify why retailers overly charge at such high prices!!

    • @Seafox0011

      @@MPAstro There's a lot of price gouging going on up the supply chain. Using 'inflation' as an excuse of ramping up prices, but in so doing are just throwing fuel onto the fire. In the end the market will collapse if that process is continued - because logically people will just not buy stuff and then the suppliers will have excessive over stock which they will then have to get rid of - as what we do is a discretionary spending activity ... some suppliers and retailers will come unstuck unless they are more canny and know their market. Alternatively smaller manufacturers will see an opportunity and undercut, but still charge a reasonable price - enough to maintain a business until better times return.

      @@Seafox0011 Totally agree everything is going up, fuel, energy costs, insurance and prices of retail goods, people will struggle to meet up with price hikes, people will stop spending. The markets will crash and eventually it will recover back to normal, we hope???
