  • An update on my recovery.
    Unfortunately when I quit benzodiazepines 3 years ago, I relied upon mirtazapine and was on it ever since. I am now quitting it with the intention of being free from all pills. Today is Day 7 off it.
    Tomorrow I plan on beginning microdosing Psilocybin mushrooms.

    Took that shit for 2 days, couldn't tolerate it. Felt like a zombie, mouth was dry all day....and this was just 2 days! Glad I didn't continue even though the doctor insisted.

      Hello there. I cold turkeyed from mirtazapine 2 weeks ago been on meds for about 20 years, mirtazapine for 5 years. I'm on nothing now and have not had any side effects. I'm waiting for them but they aren't coming. Can you please tell me how you are doing now? Did your side effects come and go or was it just the initial 8 days? I really hope your doing ok.

    Hope your feeling a better now. I was also addicted to bonzo's for at least 5 years. When I say addicted I mean drug dependant not that i was taking too much. Anyway the withdrawal was intensely horrible and left me with anxiety for years. Eventually the doctors sent me for a blood test and I was diagnosed with an overactive thyroid which amongst other things gives you anxiety. Years later I had a dream that there was a link between that and the benzodiazepine withdrawal, so I googled it and found a study in America that found a link showing that, I think it was 1 in 6 people who had used benzos went on to suffer with thyroid disease. Might be worth looking into if your still suffering. Officially an overactive thyroid is called Graves disease. It will make you anxious, nervous, tired, weak, poor sleep, weight loss and much more. It made me feel horrendous for years but it is entirely treatable. Anyway just a thought. All the best

    I’m still on my treatment with Mirtazapine 30mg, at my higher dose I don’t get the sedative effects but my pharmacy messed up my prescription and been told on sunday I need to wait till thursday which is tomorrow. Its been the only medication thats helped me with my anxiety which went haywire months prior and I was basically crippled with sickness, insane nausea that strong anti emetics couldn’t stop and I didn’t sleep for nearly two weeks, those final days I went into cardiac arrest and was hospitalised i’d say that was my lowest point thinking that was it. The mirtazapine felt like it saved my life because it made me sleep and my sickness vanished, when I was still getting use to it I always thought it was too good to be true but over time felt better when it started to take effect. My dependence makes the withdrawal so much worse for me feeling I can’t function or i’ll collapse into wonderland. I’d say i’ve been lucky with it not getting any side effects from taking it but I wish I was lucky enough to be like people who didn’t suffer from withdrawal.

    Hi mate, I’ve found your videos so helpful.
    I got started on mirtaz after 1 week of panic attacks and tried coming off because it didn’t help after 5 under doctors guidance and suffered terribly, still not got rid of withdrawals even after reinstatement. So I wanted to ask; how did you taper from 15 to 7.5? As I tried doing the half dose and after three days I had severe withdrawals and akasthesia symptoms, and from all the communities, you really bring me hope I can recover from this mistake.

    Mirtazapine at low dose (approx 7.5mg) causes far worse withdrawal than higher doses 15mg etc, it has dose dependant properties. Hence why there is a conflict of opinions concerning withdrawal.

      around 3 - 3 and a half years, mainly at 7.5 - 15mg. I stayed on 7.5mg and 3.75mg for a long time, and then liquid tapered.

    Im tapering down off mirt 15mg now. Im down to 7.5mg at the moment. Feel really weird right now tbh. Dont know whether to just fuck it off altogether now or continue tapering?. Is it just dragging out the inevitable or is it reducing how bad it would be if i wasnt tapering down gradually?

    • @aphenex
      @aphenex  Рік тому

      Where are you at now?
      I couldn't give advice on what you should do unfortunately as it will really depend on the person. Many people cut off at 7.5mg, so you could give it a try. If you struggle then you could always taper, but personally I kinda feel like I wished I came off sooner so my opinion is biased.

      @aphenex  Рік тому +1

      In my opinion it would be better to try to taper the z-drugs, without relying on anything else. You'll get some nights without sleep, but it will be worth it long term.
      That said may be worth having an OTC sedative such as promethazine for emergency use. I used 25-50mg promethazine on my 3rd day without sleep after coming off mirtazapine, but only used it once or twice in the last 4 months.
