This is amazing! I have my Grandmother's shuttle and look forward to 'blooping' with it. Thank you for your patient explanation and visuals. I'm so glad I learned how to crochet, but held onto her shuttle hoping to use it one day. She died long before I was born so it is very special to me.

Girl! Can I hug you? This video saved me. After a dozen I was looking for to solve the knot thing. I was struggling with my left finger, as was impossible make it relax and transfer the knot to the shuttle thread and your explanation so simple is over the moon. Actually, I have to repeat your rhythm , saying out loud "the boop" when you're about to transfer the knot was a game changing and I got the success hahaha. Bless you.

This is exactly what I was having trouble with. I had taken a class at a fiber festival and could never get what the teacher called "the flip" or the transfer. This really shows it so clearly!!!

I'm so excited! I've been wanting to re-learn how to tat (my grandmother taught me many years ago) and I've watched experts try to make "beginner" videos, but I don't think they realized how basic their videos needed to be. When I was in grad school, my major professor always had the least experienced student teach the next. Having to teach someone else solidified teacher's knowledge and they knew how to get down to the level of a rank beginner. Your video is a prime example of that. Well done!

A few years ago i immersed myself into tatting, with youtubers as my teachers. I came in a few weeks as far as tatting w two shuttles or one ball of floss started the ball in the middle. Halfway my beautiful snowflake the floss broke and i didn't find a youtube to rescue me. One day i pick it up again. Sooner then 10 yrs! You are such a good teacher. The analyzing, repetition, the refrein. It makes it so much more understandable. Thks!

You can do single thread tatting with the shuttle thread still attached to the ball. It's just not used for special stitches. That's part of basic tatting.

Hi Alyssa, didn't get to be at the Live Chat but if You've ever done Macrame then You would remember that what You're doing is called a Larkshead knot. Maybe other people inthe chat tomorrow night may be able to relate to that. Thank You for Sharing this craft, I hope that I'll be able to get to the Live tomorrow night!

I am going to try to teach myself needle tatting. I was told years ago that I hold a crochet hook like a tatting needle. Looked up information and feel like I could learn it. I have been trying to find something new to do and broke down and just ordered supplies. I watched videos and it seems like needle tatting is easier that using the shuttle.

The first shuttle is a bobbin shuttle and the second on is a post type shuttle.

QUESTION. I remember i had difficulty to know what my last movement was, first or second part of the knot. Could you show us, please? Read the last movement by eye, or some other reference. (Sorry, not seen your video 2 yet.)
