Iv only ever been to monaghan Town centre once in my life and that was back in the 1990s my da was born in scotstown in1925 but moved to the UK in the 50s but he never forgot his roots,he sadly passed away 24th December 2020 aged 95 😔😔

I've just received my ancestry DNA results and it's telling me I'm over half Irish and that this place is where my family are from. Being English by birth, at first I wasn't too pleased about being genetically more Irish than English but I'm willing to embrace it, haha. Looks like a beautiful place anyway. I guess I'm now a proud Irishman. :)

I'm sure some of my ancestors where from here MONAHAN YES someone or some official changed are spelling lol,, Ryan Patrick Michael Monahan , 💯 AmeriMick,, my family is mainly RYAN'S, MONAHAN'S, SULLIVAN'S, DONAHUE'S.my first name came from that side etc.

Some do but the % is becoming smaller as time goes on it's hard to say the ratio but if I had to guess I'd say somewhere between 25-35% of the town is foreign national

my last name is monaghan. my great great great grand father came to the US back in the late 1800's early 1900's and ive always wondered if my name came from this town somewhere. but i also know that there are many diffrent ways to spell Monaghan.
