When I started back on antidepressants they put me on sertraline and I had awful side effects. Mainly with my stomach. Then they switched to citalopram and I've had different ones. Every time they upped my dose I had more. Apparently I'm really sensitive to side effects! It took a good 4-5 months to get me on the right medication and dose and feeling ok. It really is worth persevering. Keep in touch with your doctor regularly and get some kind of counselling too.

everyone has a different experience with side effects - one of my best friends is the same as you and has terrible reactions to medication without ever seeing much benefit

I've just come off citalopram because of side effects and I've started sertraline today! It's nice to hear I'm not the only one. If you don't mind me asking - how did you go with the transition to another medication?

I’ve decided to start antidepressants for the first time but I’m scared shit that it’ll make my depression worse. Watching your video though along with talking to people I know about their experiences has helped reassure me it’s worth a shot🙏🏽

I have been on 50 mg of sertraline for over a year, and I recently abruptly had a week without my medication due to a mishap at the doctors, and I have never felt so desperate and horrific. I'm so happy I got more today. I hope things continue to get better for you

I live in the US and this is my biggest fear about taking meds! I hear lapse in meds can be very difficult. How often has this happened to you? And how did it affect you?

Thanks for the vid. Going to the doctors this afternoon to see if I can start taking anti-depressants for the first time. I've been struggling with anxiety and depression for almost 8 years now and even though I do everything I can to manage it without medication (daily yoga, meditation, exercise, spirituality, counselling, self-help CBT and books), I'm still really struggling and need a different type of intervention. This video made me feel a little less terrified about taking anti-depressants. I found you covered all my concerns and I particularly liked how you videoed yourself throughout the journey, that really helped me a lot. Keep up the good work :)

Thank you for making this video! I just started antidepressants for my anxiety and depression. Ive been also sleeping lightly and waking up with really high anxiety and that only happened to me once before, before I was on the medication. Now it seems to happen every night. Im relieved to see Im not the only one. Im hoping it will be back to normal soon..

My depression has got really bad. Previously, I didn't want antidepressants for the same reason you described (fear of being misdiagnosed and fear of the medicine changing me). However, I've been hallucinating too. I didn't think I'd ever class myself with severe and psychotic depression. but I guess that's along the lines of what it is? I definitely need medication I think, but my Mum doesn't want me to be on any pills ever.

i try to think of it like this: my brain isn't able to make the chemicals that it needs so the medication does what my body can't do alone. Other people depend on those chemicals too, but their body makes them for them. There's nothing wrong with taking medication to help your body do what it needs to do

First off , you're really pretty ..okay , so i was diagnosed with OCD, major depressive disorder , and generalized anxiety last Thursday and put on a cheaper version of Lexapro. I felt the effects immediately, dizziness, feeling really happy and excited , feeling calm , not being able to concentrate on more than one topic , vivid dreams . I heard horror stories about extreme nausea and weight gain . I oddly lost 5 pounds between last Thursday and this Thursday . The only terrible side effect I've experienced was heavy bleeding and cramping while on my cycle . I stopped my medication myself ( bad idea , I know ) but I couldn't risk going on the hospital again for that kind of excruciating pain . I haven't experienced any withdrawals yet ..just feeling a bit zombie like , calm, and tired...

    • @joymechell277
      @joymechell277 7 років тому +1

irionna holman a bit better . My psychiatrist discovered that I was bipolar an left me on lexapro for my anxiety and put me Trileptal as a mood stabilizer . It's starting to work somewhat , but for a long time it just made me super tired all the time and really reckless . Like I'm obsessed with hurting my self and doing stuff that could lead to injuries , like walking into traffic or beating myself up. My mom makes me eat more than one meal a day , and scolds me whenever she sees me hurting myself...she stays she might admit me ...so who knows

irionna holman I'm good at the moment . I'll be 21 in October , but for now I'm 20 , looking 14 . And yeah , I see my psychiatrist Tomorrow. It's up to him what the next will be. My granny has had it up to here with me and watching me all the time to make sure I don't anything stupid , especially since I've been wanting a cast really badly .

irionna holman thanks . My appointment is at 10:45 this morning , so I haven't gone yet . But I'll tell you how it went and if he's going to leave me on this medicine or not when I get back

    • @joymechell277

irionna holman it went alright. I lost a pound ...( they weigh me every time I come ) I've been taken off if lexapro and Trileptal..he wanted to try me on another anti depressant, but when I told him about self injury , he put me on abilfy and wants me monitored for 30 days . I'm also supposed to be watched to see if it makes me manic again , suicidal, etc.

Great video and your experience managed to push me to take my first SSRI and i've been denying myself from it for so long due to it's scary side effects from the story i've heard. I have adhd pi, anxiety and depression but mostly anxiety so my doctor prescribed me with Luvox to treat my core issues which is anxiety. I have no idea what to expect but i hope the side effects will be manageable and i won't be put off from the side effects despite how hard it might be in the first week.

I was on an SSRI for anxiety and panic attacks. At first it really did help but in the long run it wasn't working as well and caused terrible digestive, and hormonal problems, plus I gained about 50lbs! I was also not very happy. I've been off of it for about 6 months and I'm so happy! The withdrawals were TERRIBLE but I'm glad I held through. I still have some residual issues, mostly with food but everything is slowly going back to "normal" and I've lost a ton of weight! I think people should follow their gut and do what's best for yourself. Do a lot of research too, good luck!

I was suffering from mood swings. I went to a doctor who said it was anxiety and depression. Meanwhile my mood swings involve euphoria (big indication of bipolar). The idiot dismissed that and put me on fluoxetine. At first I was getting the shakes and I was tired but then it worked well until about 4 months in. I was manic, I didn’t sleep more than two hours a night. I felt like I was on cocaine and waking up in hot and cold sweats.
I was told to stop immediately due to risk of psychosis
I’m well now but if only the doctor wasn’t so foolish

Thank you so much for this video. Im currently coming off Sertraline, and im experiencing the worst withdrawals. I feel absolutely awful, and just in a terrible amount of pain constantly.
Do you go to therapy regularly? I haven't watched all of your videos so I apologize if you've mentioned it previously, I've just been rethinking antidepressants because of how terrible the withdrawal has been.
Would you say that its worth it to go back on it? Im coming off my meds more as an experiment because I havent been able to find the correct medication for over a year and kept having to increase until the maximum dosage and then when that wasnt working the doctor would change me to a completely new medication. So Its just been an awful up and down experience. So I decided to rather just come off everything and see if Im not perhaps able to manage without it. Im hoping I can because I'd prefer not to be on the medication.

Please research Robert Whitaker before taking any antidepressant medication. He was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize in his work on the subject. Antidepressants can work up to three or four years and then you’re worse off than you were and dependent on medication and now with side effects. His evidence based medicine research is world renowned and published. He has two books. ‘Anatomy of an epidemic’, and ‘mad in America’. Please read and be informed before doing this to your brain and body.

Slow down. The speed at which you talk and in fact the whole presentation of this video is immensely stressed and agitated. Meditation and exercise and getting out into nature will help you. ADs are not the longterm answer for someone who is locked into their head as most of us are. Try to divert your focus to other things too, when you get good days. Good luck.
