For all you wondering why they put the breaks of random silence in the song, it is to represent and show us that truly "words are all we have". Because as soon as they take them away, if even for a few seconds, we feel confused and like something is wrong.

For me I interpret this song like this:
The book is her diary. As she walks through the streets, holding it in her hands she reminds what she wrote down, what she's been through. And because she wants to forget these bad memories, she buries them in a forest. Or that she wants to let go of her childhood by burying her diary.
I don't know if thats the message of this music video, but thats how I interpret it.

    Words are all we have

    We'll be talking
These words are all we have
    We'll be talking
And I hear you calling in the dead of night
Oh I hear you calling in the dead of night
    You lean towards despair
    Any given opportunity you're there
But what is there to gain?
When you're always falling off the fence that way.

My take on the video is that her life used to be really messed up, and she smoked and stuff, but things have since gotten better, but it still comes back to haunt her sometimes. It's all written down in that book, all the bad memories and stuff, and so she's burying them. Except then, of course, she'll have to dig them up, because the next song is Flaws

I feel this is a song about crippling depression and how people can try to resist it, but slowly the words and nightmares from it seep into your head and drive you deeper into the void of depression. This also goes along with the irony of the title "Overjoyed", since people with depression often try to conceal their symptoms behind a wall of fake joy.

I'm having trouble with friends at school but as soon as I put the ear buds in my ears all the worries and feeling I have wash away. it makes me feel empty inside sometimes which feel nice because you don't have to worry about anything until you take the earbuds out and your back into reality. hmm, i don´t understand why you´re mixing pop stars with indie artists.
or at least, make it a bit reasonable - comparing bands with bands.
i don´t know where have you been all those years, but pop stars are easily marketable in the mainstream, so that´s why they´re getting so much air play and therefore have more fans.

She wakes up in the middle of the night because of a dream/vision she had @0:03 - 0:10 in her sleep. @0:18 you see her book/diary which tells us that she was dreaming about it. She knows what she has to do and has been putting it off for several nights (maybe even years or months). She finally decides to stop making excuses and to just do what has to be done. It’s very late out and dark but she’s just so determined that she doesn’t seem to care. @0:43 we can see her new book/diary that she hasn’t even touched yet because she’s not ready and doesn’t want to write another word about the same dark thoughts and memories in her life. The new book has flower petals on it to represent peace (and a new beginning). The scenes of her with lipstick and smoking cigarettes is what she’s afraid of becoming when she grows up. And the vision she gets once again @1:38 is what she dreams/hopes she’ll become. The book she’s holding represents her life and her dark thoughts and she’s struggling to leave them behind (that’s why she walks so slow and takes a long time to get to the forest). By the time she gets to the forest it’s daytime. She slowly sits down to bury the book because she’s very afraid of what she’s about to do. She’s very afraid to start anew and bury all of her bad thoughts and memories and leave her entire old life behind. When she buries the book you can see that it has deep scratch marks on it @2:24 maybe symbolizing that she was abused or had a ruff life. Or maybe it means that her internal thoughts were severely dark and twisted and her own thoughts are killing her because of how sad and depressed she is. She finally buries the book and the second her long overdue task is completed, she feels a new life and is overflowing with power and spirit @2:35. You can see that she’s finally letting go (and facing) her old life/memories like the doll @2:52 which represents her childhood, her in her room at night @2:56 which represents her sleepless nights, and her smoking cigarettes @3:00 representing her fear of becoming worthless trash in life. All of her negative energy is released and she can finally rest. It ends with her by the lake looking up at the sky @3:25 (like her vision she had) showing that she’s looking forward (not planning on going back home) and ready to begin her brand new beautiful life.
This is just how I took it. Sorry if I went too deep!!😅😅

This video was very much inspired by the show 'Twin Peaks' (as was Bastille's song 'Laura Palmer'); it captures the atmosphere really well :) It's hard to explain without spoiling the series for you, but when you have seen it, the main character in this video reminds you very much of Laura Palmer. It might be my mind playing tricks on me, but to me the actress in this video at certain moments even looks like the actress playing Laura Palmer.

The thing about Bastille's videos is that they don't represent the story of the song, they make up their own story. If you watch the videos in the right order, (the order they were released) they are all connected to one another, making up their own storyline :)
