That sounds a lot lovelier than anything John Green made in this episode! I would actually drink that.
Man, I had forgotten how funny this Mental Floss video was! 😁
I got a Crash Course ad on a Mental Floss video. COINCIDENCE?! I THINK NOT!
Haha, definitely not.
I love him mixing up the drinks, and showing how easy they are.
I believe the point of the Tom Collins trick is that you tell a person that Tom Collins is outside now, and was in here a minute ago talking smack about them, then when your friend goes outside to find Tom Collins, you drink your friends drink.
What you in America call a "Screwdriver" we call Vodka-O in Germany. The O simply standing for orange juice.
Yeah, I am a lot less hesitant to order some of these drinks now that I understand what they are. Brilliant!
I love that you tell us what's next, keep it up.
Alabama Slammer == Sloe Gin + Southern Comfort + Amaretto + OJ
I would like to have seen him make a LI Ice Tea, which is the five white, balanced with sour mix (or lemonade) and Coke.
bloody mary.. perpetually late girlfriend.. i see what you did there.. lol
Oh thanks! Cause everything is just about fun ain't it? You're such a delightful human being and quite a witty one at that. We are such GREAT people!
Best John Green video to date.
Figures Hannah missed hosting this one due to Hangover, Still love her though
The second time I watched it I realized that the cooking jokes were intended to be done by Hannah Hart... Lol
By far the best mental floss ever!
1. I like the way John makes drinks: very similar to my style.
2. The Bellini was the only drink mentioned that I hadn't yet heard of (or tried), so yay, I learned something.
The Irish Car Bomb HAS been given a new name by Mamrie Hart of You Deserve A Drink. During her segment Alcoholidays for St. Patrick's day, she renamed it the "Piss Me, I'm Irish" It has not caught on yet, but it should.
+Emily C Proof that girls shoudn't drink .
that would've been funny if you drank all the drinks so through the video you'd progressively be getting wasted.
this was honestly the best one yet
Thanks for saving the day John.
Ah jaysus! A perfectly good pint of Guinness ruined!
Fun fact: Anything without gin in it is not a martini. Go home, ladies.
What do you mean?
Fun fact: Gin is actually pine-sol and should be avoided.
THANK YOU!!!! ANOTHER PERSON WHO ACTUALLY USES THE CLASSICAL PRONUNCIATION!!!!
Also, people saying "j" when they mean a consonant "i" gets annoying.
Bravo to you, sir.
John intro to #1 with coconut was very funny. I needed a good laugh!😚
I only have a guy named jerry to cut up my fruit for me. will my sangria still taste the same?
I cant do the drinks. I dont have a Marc.
no mate , what you don't have is humour
Rayen3350 I haven't got your sense of humor maybe.
believe me when I say u can't
No. I won't.
yeah that's what I said
Representing Wilmington NC with the freaks!! I have so many of those things, they are the best bottle sweaters ever. Ever.
i just re-watch john and hank videos while i do 'productive work' just cause their voices have a calming effect
Just saying, but didn't John say that he doesn't drink in an earlier video? And yet... he has a hangover...?
Ludvig Aarflot
soco is whiskey?
my friends and family drink alot and i drink on rare occasion, but i still tell people i don't drink alcohol. I can drink alot, but i don't like feeling pukey and out of breathe so i rarely drink. i only drink once every few months. I had a shot last night for my friends b-day and took a sip and tossed it when he wasn't looking. and he drinks like a fifth in a night. i wish that was an exaggeration.
Hi john. You appear to be missing a button.
He was hungover, remember? It happens.
+Samantha Port ssshhh it happens
That is the best episode so far
I love your show!
You're so talented at making drinks, John
This is a great episode.
this is one of my favorite episodes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you for this episode. I never laughed so hard. Funny and educational!
Needs a lot more follow ups. I don't even enjoy alcohol but the history of the drinks is so cool!
this is my most favourite episode so far from the vlogbrothers
This was awesome thank you!
great job John !
i just started bar-tending and this is so fascinating and helpful! thanks john!!
i feel like a john version of non alcoholic drinks would also be incredibly entertaining
Having been a bartender, I am loving this episode lol
The first 17 seconds remind me why I love John Green so damn much.
This video induces many memories from college.
Thank you for your helpful list of what to avoid at all costs.
John is the best bartender I have ever seen.
It is now my goal to at least have a half serving of each of these drinks in one night. I hope you realize you just started something amazing!
I'm having a party this weekend knowing all these combinations is going to be fun!
Red dye comes from the beetles mentioned, but their habitat is in prickly pear cactus, and there are even little farms full of these and they live in little toilet paper tube rolls attached to the cactus...Thanks John, welcome back!
For sangria: "What you do is you get Mark cut up some fruit..." ha ha, loved it.
Thank you mental_floss for posting a video about 26 alcoholic beverages on June 26th, my 21st birthday. Serendipity :)
The first 43 seconds of the video make my day.
This is one of the most useful videos ever... *bookmarks for parties*
Oh my goodness this was excellent. ♥
best one yet
LOL the intro was awesome.
This is easily my most favorite Mental Floss episode. Hungover John is fantastic.
Dear John (in the unlikely even that you read this): We need to see more of you being hungover. I know it's not good for your liver, but we all have to make sacrifices for my humor (except me of course, duh).
i love his method for making drinks
After watching this, I feel like an ancoholic. I knew almost every brand of the bottles John showed.
Fun fact: When I was a preteen and involved in oil painting lessons, my teacher would make all three of us young students (together on a Friday late afternoon/early evening) fuzzy navels, and it quickly became one of my favorite drinks. Throughout my teen years, Mom would allow me to consume the occasional fuzzy navel at home. Fast forward to today and I can tell you I've never been inside a bar, only a pub, only ever gotten drunk once in my life, and I've had an unopened bottle of gin in my fridge for a few months, just waiting for me to eventually want a gin and tonic (which is one of the few alcoholic drinks I'll consume today, and it HAS to be made with Canada Dry tonic water).
he's back!
LMAO The best Champagne your gas station has to offer...
Ooh! I'd nearly run out! Thanks for the extra supply.
Awesome I learned a lot of history here
I appreciate the inclusion of sources!!!!!!!!!!!
dude you are awesome!
you've helped me achieve the "you learn something new every day".. :)
Well done!
funniest episode so far
youve just inspired me to make one of these for lunch aaaaaaaaaand now im day drinking.
Hahaha, I love that John Green and I had the exact same reaction to Amaretto.
John and Henry and Hank! Wow! Nice call.
Good work Lad.
That's a pretty cool coincidence (and happy birthday!).
"You want the best champagne that the entire gas station has to offer", I had to pause the vid because tears from lulz.
Now I am going to make these drinks all the time. :)
I think I took more notes in this one than any of the other videos.
I'm turning 21 in 3 days, this is very useful! Thanks!
This video is hilarious!
Posted the day after my 21st?! Thanks, Mental Floss!
Now if only I wasn't a featherweight. . . .
I'm originally from Martinez, I grew up there. All my life, my mom and grandparents told me that the martini was invented in our town. And while I don't necessarily believe that, I always assumed the rumor was just a local thing. My home town has a lot of stories, and I guess I just never imagined that those rumors flew farther then the ears of the towns youngest generations. Thanks for making my day, John :3
Drunk, hung over, rain, sleet, hail, raising newborn humans (aka not sleeping for 6 - 9 months)... John Green delivers.
I'm pretty sure this was recorded before his paternity leave, but it's nice to have him here in spirit. Haha, spirits.
I love that Hannah called in hungover and then John called her out on it. Like, who hasn't missed a morning at work cos they were rough.
lol
needs a part two
Awesome job!!
Fun drink fact: that dye that you mentioned at the end is used in the production of Campari, a classic Italian aperitif.
John's a trooper!
"Hazel and Augustus, now coming to your local liquor store. With hints of Holland, and paper."
I am impressed that you ripped that coconut in half.
Okay John - not that you'll probably see... here's your drink:
1 scoop of ciao bella sorbet (I like passion fruit)
4 oz pineapple juice
top off with sprite.
Yes, there is no alcohol in this drink. You will actually remember what you did the night before drinking this... and most likely have diabetes if you have to much. Also - no hangovers.
After a day of victory like this, I need a drink.
I turn 21 in six days. I am really happy to be watching this video right now.
this is the best
that is aawesome !!
is that a Charlie Brown Bottle Cozy!? that explains so much!!!
Just because of this video, I am going to Trader Vic's for lunch, the original tiki bar. Thank John.
It makes me happy to see I'm not the only one who thinks a Bichon mug is adorable.
I feel like a dummy....i commented on another video of yours that you remind me of hank on scischow (my favorite presenter, btw)...today i figured out why by simply googling it... The guy with 2 thumbs, is a goof.
Anyway i love these videos! And both of you guys are very entertaining!
I started working at a liquor store a week ago. This will be very useful. :D
