The channel assignments are saved along with the Mix settings. The Mix settings are saved with Sequences. Thus, you can change the channel output assignments within a song by using the Channel Assign, Define Mix, and Mix Change features together in Song mode. You can then save all of this with Disk 1 "Save Sequences" or Disk 9 "Save All As." 43:10
1:44:30 Thank you for creating this tutorial, and for the nice shoutout too!
You're welcome and thank you for the additional notes, and times, added below🙏🏻
We recommend either keeping the preamp at "+20" or inserting something into the Monitor output (which can be a headphone adapter or a cable, and it doesn't need to lead anywhere) to avoid hearing a shift in the sampling input's signal level at the Mix Out. 13:24
This solves an issue I was struggling with. Loud surprises indeed.
Best way to get around the limited sample time is running your sample sources through a machine that enables time stretching or pitch / speed shifting. I would definitely use my SP404 and speed up the sample via the PITCH/ SPEED option and sample that into the SP1200. The SP1200 will record it in memory as that sped up length but you can slow it down within the SP1200 without taking additional space after the fact.
Spot on man! I'm about to go get my ASR10 from storage finally and start seeing how much muscle memory is available, if any. I've had it for years and I know I'm still barley scratching the surface.
May have to try and find some more 💾 floppies ✌️😂
The only thing with that… the faster the sample u have less control of the fine tuning
you can also speed the record player up to 45 RPM instead of 35. its one of the easier methods if you don’t want to spend more money on an SP 404 or ASR10 but you can do what ever you want
Thank you for this!! 💯💯💯
I’ve been waiting for this video to drop for a while and I know it's gonna be amazing! So glad you added thumbnails too. Thank you very much!!!
Cheers Michael, hope it stops all guessing from here on in 🙏🏻
Awesome tutorial ❤
Perfect timing. Mine is to arrive tomorrow 🔥🔥🔥
Right on! ✊🏼
@tonelab wow man you are amazing man -the amount of accuracy and effort put in to make these is truly remarkable! You will go down in history for these. Thank you again and again -respect
Excellent tutorial, sir! Value for years to come for new and established SP users. Respect!
Thanks E! ..I hope there's less confusion and more creation as a result 🙏🏻
Thanks for this amazing video!
Just ordered an unit and I’m more than happy to get to know every detail before it arrives!
You're welcome 🙏🏻
great video! thank you 🙏
Thanks Nicolas, much appreciated 🙏🏻
unreal damo. can’t wait to learn this machine with the help of this tutorial. you put alot of work into this!
You're welcome! ..and thanks for the loan 😉 🙏🏻
@@tonelab ok, this tutorial is unreal. answered all my questions so far!
I’m gonna watch your video once again
Cool 👍🏼 It’s there for as long as you need ..just tear off a piece and come back once you’ve digested it.. there’s quite a bit there to take in ‘one sitting’🙏🏼
1:39:20 SubSong or Insert are both great for adding an introduction or something at the beginning without having to reprogram an existing Song.
I will stay with the MPC all day!! Do love the sound of the SP1200 and it’s a hip hop staple, so is the TR808!
5:38 great video 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thanks! Hope it helps the work flow🙏🏼
The power supply is only 3A. We wrote 5A on the rear panel (oops) but it's actually more than is necessary and we only ship 3A supplies which are more than sufficient. 9:49
10:12 I’m back great video 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Please back up your files. 38:10 Thank you TONELAB for the reminder again!
Please back up your files. 31:00 Thank you TONELAB for the reminder!
Amazing video! I regret buying and flipping an early emu😢..got a mc707 but what a menu dive..with work it's hard to get to spend with any videos or advise 🤙
Thanks very much! 🙏🏻👍🏼
Inserting a cable (or just a jack or a headphone adapter, that doesn't necessarily need to lead anywhere), into the Monitor output will remove this signal from the Mix Out. 6:55
TONELAB MAN PLEASE DO A ENSONIQ ASR 10 TUTORIAL IT WOULD BE AWESOMEEEE ❤❤❤
Funny you asked.. just prior to this Rossum, arriving at my door.. I was just about to shoot the first episode of the ASR tutorial 'series'. In other words... it's next! 🙏🏻
big love for the history and sound of the sp-1200 and wanna give it a go for myself for fun but ive never setup a studio before - question: once u learn to make a 'song' is it somewhat easy or complicated to transfer and record it to a familiar playable format like mp3, CD, etc? do you need a lot of other equipment or can the sp-1200 output directly to a CD recorder for instance? thanks in advance
Just like in the old days of Tape Machines.. you connect the audio outputs up to an audio interface, or hard disk recorder.. if you prefer doing it that way, then record what ever you created on your SP 🙏🏻
How can you record the SP in Daw and create stems these days
thanks this tutorial
it is excellent
just a question I would like format a another sd card for backup
it is possible
thanks for all
fred to paris
You're welcome 🙏🏻
You can mount just about any SD card in a Mac or Windows PC and format the card using MS-DOS / FAT32, it will be ready for use after that 👍🏼
What I do is sample from vinyl and I speed it up real quick this way I could have more of the sample
That's the ticket.. you can push it a little further if you're able to 'double' the original speed, of 'play back', of your audio-source.. then use the 'Init Tune/Decay' option found under the Special menu - There's a detailed clip on how to do that here 🙏🏻ua-cam.com/video/I3DGc0WIOsw/v-deo.html
I couldn’t watch the whole video because I do take care of my mom
Peace. So they imposed the 2.5 sec sample limitation on the Rossum too!? If so that sux
In the sound files, do you already have the system in .HFE?
HFE's are provided with the SP1200 Kits, specifically for Lotharek/Gotek loaded SP1200's 🙏🏻
Can it re-sample a sample internally within the machine without cables? Can it be achieved at all?
No 🙏🏻
do you know if your SD card sample packs will work with an HxC SD floppy emulator on an original SP-1200? the file extensions for the virtual discs are .hfe... or am i stuck with sysex? and thanks for the great video!
I'll be getting my hands on a SP1200 with HxC shortly.. then I'll add those to the MIDI packs - so you get both via the MIDI pack 👍🏼
@@tonelab awesome! 😃
@@tonelab hi again. there's an issue with one of the new sample packs, but there's no contact information that i could find. sorry, but is there a way to email you or something?
@@god-of-gamblers Yeah, I'll have your email on file - what's your order # ? 🙏🏻
@@tonelab thanks! it's 57735.
Are they identical sounding ? The emu and rossum? And filters ? How close are these two ?
Judge for yourself 👍🏼 ua-cam.com/video/7LSyWT8T0fA/v-deo.html
i cant figure out how to get the highpass filter on the outputs, with a stereo trs cable, ring = highpass right? and should that be in the filtered output or the regular?
It's only on channels 1 & 2
@b so it’s not the same as on the OG sp? I’m aware of the low pass filters being on 1&2, but I thought that if you insert the cable halfways, output 3,4,5 and 6 should give you a highpass right?
The Rossum has variable filters on 1 & 2, unlike the E-mu. A half inserted jack will bypass the filters. 👍🏼
I didn't know someone made a new sp1200. Initially thought it was the 2400
Yeah.. and that 'someone' is Dave Rossum.. the original designer/engineer of the Emu SP1200 👍🏼
@@tonelab i thought about getting the sp2400 but i couldn't make a practical justification, especially since I already have an sp404mk2.
How?
@@BobbyGeneric145 they are not even similar hardware. Try them all out.
@@BobbyGeneric145sp2400 sucks. This is the real deal
Will this play along with my d.a.w via midi??
Yep, you can put the SP1200 into External MIDI mode, via the Sync section @22:01
@@tonelab Thank you very much very very informative
I don't know why, no one talks about the SP1200 system disk! Where can I get it? Would someone give me a copy? 😟
Do you need the physical floppy disk or.. are you using a Floppy Emulator?!
@@tonelab Tony, first of all, thanks for your help!
I need to create a "floppy disk" with the SP1200 system on the PC, my SP1200 only has the "floppy disk drive".
I have the HcX program. What formatting does the SP1200 use? I know it's FAT 12, but which one?
Thanks again! 🙂
Neither, it uses it's own proprietary format.
PS. Be sure to use Double Density floppy disks, rather than High Density 🙏🏻
@@tonelab, thanks for your help!
If you need an OS image try the Facebook SP1200 forum 👍🏻 facebook.com/groups/2889232950
This has too many wierd filter output channel 1 to 6 I just use regular gain 7 and 8.
With the latest firmware you can bypass all the channel filters
@@tonelab awesome so it's software option now
$4k is ridiculous. should in s2400 price range.
Sooo no ground wire connector as the live X have.. which meaning you have to buy a dj mixer😑😑😑😑😑😑😑😑😑😑😑😑😑$4000 man come-on..
Well, it is a re-issue.. there was no ground on the original 🙏🏼
4k for a machine that will last until you die isn't a bad investment
@@playitloudstudiouk3367 yeah true. Still going to invest in this gem brother 💪
@@tonelab reissue with a SD card and no ground wire 😭🤣
Emu had amazing gear in those early days even late 80 90's loved the warm filters I got sampling out of those old rack mount floppy 💾 's made it interesting..found a emu 32 with the upgraded calaminy I think they were called and have hardware to convert to usb in a box in basement 😅🎉
