Yea it has been significantly upgraded, instead of the noise that you hear on the HI's its much more tame and clear when it comes to the mid and bass. You have a jewel in your hand and cant wait to hear what you come up with.

The price point to me is good considering the build quality and believe me it will last for at least 30 years, so divide that 3k over years months weeks For me tho the best thing about the sp1200 series is the actual fun it is using them, the layout, the ease of use, it all just feels great. With that being said, different strokes for different folks just enjoy and kill it Thanks again for the video - )
I hope this encourages a new generation of kids who aren't afraid to create a new sound again. This video reminded me of the early days of UA-cam and being able to find new cats making beat videos using all kinds of samplers. MPC's, ASR's, etc..
This aesthetically looks dope as hell, and I’ve been contemplating getting one. To settle this shit once and for all, we need a side by side of an original SP1200 with the SSM2044 chip, a later model SP with the SSI2144 and an Isla S2400, which also has the SSI2144. Then we can all decide for ourselves which sounds the best. You had 2 of them side by side, yet we get an off camera comparison. Let’s see it in real action.
It's already known that the SSM2044 chips are still the best and you can listen to SSM2044 vs SSI2144 side by side and there's a noticable advantage with the SSM2044 , but I honestly can't hear any difference In this video. You can hear It In the new Prophet 5 reissues vs the original Prophet 5's which have the SSM2044. New SP1200 sounds close enough that's all that matters , imo It really sounds 100% exact even though It's not because It's using the new 2144 chips and they aren't exact. Better to spend $4000 rather than 8k on old potentially unreliable originals , that's alot of money to gamble with.

No, the SP-1200 reissue does not heat up noticeably like a classic vintage instrument. You can comfortably touch any part of the case, for example to reach over the back to adjust the filter sliders. All of the vents have been removed as they are no longer necessary. Also, the power brick uses a locking XLR-style connector that won't come loose during a performance.
Hey CS, please make a video where you show us your equipment, hardware and everything else to make hard boom bap beats like in the old goldschool era :) It would be very interesting for all who want to start with producing and for all who love that oldschool era. I gave my SP1200 away.....Got the s2400...only for the fortcoming SP1200 disks Transfer -ism. ( external USB disk...rrrr.rrrrr.rrrrr.....loading ready )
While I agree that it is better than the OG one thing to remember is the longevity of the uint and while this new one is built better with more robust casing likely better sliders and knobs and an external power supply you must also consider that the new one has certain components, which can be view on the board at Dave's site, that are surface mounted and while these components are no doubt reliable future repairs or replacements on tiny surface mounted components can only be done by an expert tech with years of skill, it's not something a layman can do at home with a basic soldering iron. Most companies simply replace the board when these items go bad which is not going to be an option here. Yes it can be repaired but you have to go to a specialist.
@@cookinsoul As far as I know he hasn't updated the midi implementation on this, really wished he added that as it wouldn't make a big departure from the OG. I think I am right in saying it's pretty limited and by that I mean the OG. I don't think you can use a pitch wheel? Let's say you were playing a bassline on a synth and you want to add a pitch bend to a note which is something I may find myself doing without thinking about it. But still with all this said it sound reigns supreme to this day, nothing and I mean nothing beats it for drums IMO, and the new one is just as good. All this means is I have now to buy one now. Hopefully should get an order in before the end of the year.

I remember the original sp1200 was like $12k when it came out, so this is a steal....especially an upgraded one. I always love the circuitry in units like this. It makes a difference in sound.
Love the sound, but $4k is a little steep. I know the OG's run about 3x that price, but I could buy another MPC Live 2, Maschine+ and SP-404 Mk II for that price.
Yeah, $4k is unattainable. It’s a bummer. I’d rather invest in an Ableton Push or an MPC. However, if the SP-1200 was $1k, it would definitely be my first choice.

No because the new exposed LED ‘s which are like the SP-12. The lexan overlay would have to be modified to fit the Rossum. The LED section in particular.
The original is going for $15,000... 2 years ago they were 5 to 8 thousand. It'll be interesting to see if those prices drop now that you can get the same thing for $4,000
I would say no, if you look at the minimoog reissue. Prices were Goin extremely up for vintage. Even behringer bringing out there model d clones doesn't changed anything on the market.
I would honestly sell my OG for 5-6k and buy this for $4400 after taxes and shipping. They don’t actually even sell for more than 6-7k and eBay/reverb takes their cut. 15k isn’t what they are going for, just armen the jerk seller on eBay asking fantasy prices. Once I sold him an OG black reissue for $1300 and he claimed there was a slight issue and demanded a $200 refund
