Lord and Miller's Solo: WTF Happened to this Unmade Movie?

- It’s safe to say that since Disney bought the rights to Star Wars from Lucasfilm, the road toward producing a series of Star Wars films that would appeal to generations old and young has been bumpy. Tales of behind-the-scenes turmoil plagued Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, but the most infamous project remains Lord and Miller’s Solo. The film, which was to be a Han Solo origin tale, was to be directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, two talented directors famed for their 21 Jump Street reboots and their creative animated films like Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. Lifelong Star Wars fans, they seemed like the ideal choices to helm the film, but the two were shockingly fired from the movie after four and a half months of shooting.
Why were Lord and Miller fired from Solo? The rumour was that their version of the film was too light, with them departing from the script by Jonathan and Lawrence Kasdan. There were also concerns about lead Alden Ehrenreich’s performance, with him having the unenviable task of replacing Harrison Ford as the title character. Whatever the case, Lucasfilm and Disney were nervous enough that Lord and Miller were unceremoniously dismissed and replaced by Ron Howard. A legendary director in his own right, who memorably made Willow for Lucasfilm, Howard came into the project with a few strikes against him, as folks resented a Hollywood establishment figure taking over for two young up-and-comers. Howard did his best to make a good Star Wars movie, but the film was a notable flop in the end. The worldwide gross was good, but with reshoots factored in, the film cost so much money it ended up losing tens of millions. To add insult to injury, Lord and Miller went on to be involved with Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which earned raves as an instant classic. Who knows how good (or bad) their version of Solo might have been?
In this episode of WTF Happened to this Unmade Movie, which is written by Brian Accardo, edited by Paul Cooper, and narrated by Bronwyn Kelly, we take a deep dive into what went wrong on Solo: A Star Wars Story.
Do you think the Lord and Miller Solo would have been better? Sound off in the comments!

Phil Lord and Chris Miller were kicked out for having a mind of their own
Cause heaven forbid there should be some originality in Star Wars
I mean Star Wars was own by Disney so….
That’s why she got on so well with roundhead Rian Johnson. He did everything that she wanted like an obedient poodle.
@@wlsmojoif you think Johnson made the movie that the Disney Machine was hoping for, then you’re crazy. He shook up far too many things for what we got to have been what they were thinking of. Hence the hardcore course correct of throwing J.J. back into the mix for round three and then having him undo every good thing Johnson did, leaving us with a shit-hot bag of trash that is easily the worst film in the entire canon.
Release the #lordandmillercut
Having seen their output (Into the Spiderverse, Lego Movies) , I highly doubt they were screwing things up as claimed .
And now Across The Spider-Verse. Disney really shot themselves in the foot firing them.
@@rommix0Disney really fired them because Phil Lord and Christopher Miller wanted to make the movie better and to make it even sweeter for both of the writers now, they not only won the Oscar for best animated film in 2018, but they also about to win it again in 2023
@@ParisPK Oh definitely.
Lord and Miller: King’s of making amazing films built on premises that should never work
We all laughed at the idea of a LEGO movie, but those two found a way to make it one of the most beloved animated films in the last couple of years.
@@michaelstrong5383either of the Jump Street films should be as amazing as they are and yet the first one is a slam-bang hilarious spoof of buddy cop movies and the second is maybe the most brilliant example of metafilmmaking so far in history. Spider-Verse shouldn’t have worked out at least not as well as it did and yet, they created another one of the most creative animated films of all time along with The Lego Movie and now we get to see how they can again blow us away with the Spider-Verse sequel. So these guys might just truly be the current kings of taking thankless jobs and making them all-timers, which just makes me even more sad that we’ll never get to see their full unadulterated vision for Solo.
I’ll never forget how I somehow missed the news that Lord and Miller were fired, and found out A MONTH later. That never happens with me. I’m always on it with news like this!
It wasn't even called A New Hope in 1977
Thandie Newton has said that she never worked with Ron Howard as all her scenes had already been shot with Lord and Miller. This means that any scene with her in it was not a reshoot. This also means that the best scene in the film, the train heist, is all Lord and Miller
Why do you have a train in a world full of flying things?
@@chasx7062 You never played shadows of the empire?
I thought it was a nod to that level as you play as a Han Solo character
@@geesterfunk Still as dumb as the walking AT-AT's LOL
So why didnt they get directorial credits?
No it doesn’t mean that.
Thandie Newton’s character is entirely separate from the rest of the characters during the heist and is barely involved.
Almost the entirety of that sequence could have been reshot without her if it came down to it.
Lord and Miller are one of the most fun and creative directing duos working today and not seeing their version of Solo: A Star Wars Story is still one of those unmade films I'll never get over. Probably would've been better than what we got even if Ron Howard did deliver a pretty okay film himself.
Honestly, I think the problem wasn't the firing, but the hiring. I'd be willing to bet that Lord and Miller could have written and directed a magnificent, weird, funny, and of course, strangely moving Star Wars film. That's just what they do. But as hired guns brought in to service that particularly uninspired script, I just can't see how it could have worked.
More to the point, I don't know if the Star Wars film they wanted to make would have been received well by the Star Wars fandom. Star Wars has an assertive tone, and Lord and Miller have an assertive authorial voice, and I'm not sure the two would line up in a way that would satisfy both Lord and Miller AND the die-hard fans. Personally, I find the die-hard fans exhausting, and I'm sick of their constant griping, and even their self-righteous praise. So I think these ambitious, brilliant directors were better off being fired than missing the very narrow window that makes Star Wars fans happy.
Anyway, Miller and Lord make good live-action movies, but their genius has always been in animation. We have enough brilliant live-action directors, and far too few animation directors that elevate the form the way they do. I think their energy is best spent in that direction. But that's just my two cents.
@The Creator I mean, in theory, there's no such thing as a bad idea or a bad character, just bad execution. And certainly, there's nothing so wrong with Han Solo that his origin story is inherently going to be dull. It's just that the choices they made with this film were bad ones. And I think it's because, while they were taking massive risks with The Last Jedi, they were trying to make Solo 100% safe, comfortable fan service.
Over the last 30 years, Kasdan has earned his place, both as a screenwriter of some amazing films, including Raiders of the Lost Ark, and as a Hollywood player. But when a successful writer gets to the point they no longer have to prove themselves, no one can hold them to their highest standard, and their work often suffers. It happened to Lucas more than anyone. But even Spielberg suffers the same problem to some extent. And now, Kasdan seems a little out of touch.
The thing about Solo is that there's nothing really wrong with it. It's a perfectly serviceable film with a serviceable plot, characters, twists, etc. All save one glaring flaw, a half-baked protagonist. And again, there's nothing wrong with Young Han Solo. But there just isn't enough to his character to carry a film. His story, so far as I saw of it (I got bored and left the theater around the end of hour 2) was never greater than the sum of its capers.
Han Solo has always been a hapless would-be adventurer that manages to fall ass-backward into greatness. In Star Wars, when he turned the Falcon around and dove head-first into a doomed combat situation, that decision instantly defined the character forever. It's a scene we didn't even see, yet it carries more emotional charge than the entirety of the film Solo.
@@rottensquid it's reminiscent of Edgar Wright and Antman.
@thecreator2073 My thought has always been that we didn't need a Solo movie.
@@Mcowling Right. That breaks my heart, less because I think Antman would be better directed by Wright, and more because I think Wright's time and talent was wasted. I feel like he'd be further along in his career had he not been dragged into that morass.
The actor described this movie as ace Ventura in space.... I would of loved that!!!
Phil Lord and Christopher Miller went on becoming great filmmakers in those Spiderman movies it even got them an Oscar
Even though I liked Solo, despite it having some problems, I really wanted to see what Lord and Miller would have done if they stayed on
One of the things I appreciate about this movie is that it establishes, through Qi'ra, Teräs Käsi as a canon in-universe martial art 🥋
My OH was filmed as a specialist extra for Solo while L&M were the directors (a real musician pretending to play a fake harp like instrument--the prop is visible in the sticker book without a person playing it). All of that footage was cut except perhaps 1 second, backlit background at about 60 minutes in. Got well paid all the same, and got featured (playing a piano) in the "Denny's Diner" Solo tie-in advert (easily findable here on UA-cam)
The strings on the prop weren't "playable" although the instrument possibly could have been made to sound if strung with real musical strings (steel, nylon or sheepgut).
The main reason why SOLO failed, in this fan's opinion, is the fact that it was released six months after the aforementioned most divisive movie in the STAR WARS franchise, "The Last Jedi." THE LAST JEDI left a sour taste in fan's mouths, and that bled over to SOLO. If SOLO would have been released in December of 2018, it may have done better at the box office
I didnt mind solo.. it felt like a story that didnt need to be told. I liked the underworld aspects of it and didnt really like all the here's how this beloved fan tidbit happened moments. Which I guess is what was the sticking point between Kennedy and Lord/Miller.
To be honest I actually liked the movie SOLO. And I especially like the fact that Chewbacca apparently is a pilot and apparently Wookies are like Vulcans and can live for hundreds of years.
Just a thought, you guys could do a video about Iron Sky 3. I watched part 1 this weekend and suddenly remembered there was supposed to be a part 3 out ages ago. I think it's even finished, but they lost their copyright and went bankrupt or something. Could be interesting to explore.
great video as usual
In retrospect, I think the fact that Kathleen Kennedy was his friend, should've told us that Happy Days were not in our future.
I love Lord and Miller's stuff, and find them extremely talented. However, if Kasdan wanted them to stay closer to his script, which was a passion project for him and he has been credited to writing the definitive Han Solo, then they should have respected his script. Kennedy should have got this earlier than she did. The blame shouldn't be put on one person here because we all love Lord & Miller and the internet just loves to crap on Kathleen Kennedy.
First off no fans wanted to see a Harrison Ford-less Solo movie. What an idiotic concept! Second, Kennedy should have never hired Lord and Miller if she was not going to let them have the film. Not only did her firing of the directors cause the film to go even more over-budget than it was, it undoubtedly watered down the film and turned it into the box office bomb it became. What an abject failure that all Star Wars movies had to be canceled because Kennedy is so terrible at managing Lucasfilm. She's just lucky that WB has an endlessly rotating cadre of even bigger idiots screwing up WB/DC films or she would undoubtedly be under more pressure to resign.
Andor is what Solo should have been. Both their character arcs are similar. I did not mind the movie, but Solo's character should have been darker. And finally, the lighting director should have been fired. So dark you couldn't see anything.
Bring back Lord and Miller to Star Wars, and have them make a "Tag & Bink" movie.
They're too busy with the Spider-Man franchise.
I was underwhelmed by this film when I saw it, and anytime I rewatch it I get that same feeling. I wish Disney had just made a Lando movie instead, with Donald Glover still in the role
He was the best thing in the movie! I'd love to see a Lando movie.
My biggest gripe with Solo, as well as the other live action Disney Star Wars productions, is just how bland and boring everything looks.
Makes me wonder how much better Colin Trevorrow would have handled Star Wars IX, as a nostalgia-packed (but still original) conclusion to that franchise's sequel trilogy, building off the new directions Riann Johnson tried to chart in VIII, rather than JJ Abrams' loveless paint-by-numbers product.
Lord and Miller have a strong authorial voice, one of the strongest and most distinctive in the business. So it sounds to me like the issue was that they were trying to put an authorial stamp on the script they were given. It may even be that they were not allowed to change a word of the script, so the only way they could change the dialog is through actor improvisation. This ballooned the budget, which is why Lucas claimed they were fired. But it could also be that they were fired for wanting to change the script in the first place, and doing it the only way they could. Whatever we may think about their choices, the film we got, aside from casting, color choices, a few cute scenes, and the rough idea of the droid character, was Ron Howard's workmanlike servicing of the script he received. And it would seem from general reception that this workmanlike script made for a serviceable but unexceptional film.
Let me be clear, there's nothing wrong with serviceable. Obviously, many, many hardcore Star Wars fans, including people I count as friends, look to Star Wars not for exceptional cinema, but comfort food. And Solo filled that bill admirably. But comfort food that costs twice its initial budget and makes half its initial projected gross is no one's idea of a success. We all enjoy a decent cheeseburger, but the five star restaurant shouldn't be surprised when its ambitious fusion cuisine chef wants to put his personal flair on it. And they shouldn't be surprised when, after firing that chef and hiring a short-order cook to knock out a no-frills burger, they don't exactly get a five star review, except from those who consider cheeseburgers the last word in cuisine.
We'll never see their cut. Only two ex-director's cuts come to mind, the Snyder Cut (which was only kinda) and the incredible Richard Donner Cut.
But it would still be neat to see a Lord and Miller Cut. Here's hoping!
How many times does Kennedy get a pass for getting it wrong? I agree with Academy Award winning editor Marcia Lucas in that Kennedy just doesn't get Star Wars...
Considering the garbage that 7, 8, and 9 were. Maybe his cut would be way better than whatever they've putting out these years.
I can't say whether or not Lord and Miller's Solo film would have been good. But I am glad Qi'ra and Crimson Dawn are doing a lot more in the Star Wars comics rn.
A Lord and Miller SOLO movie would've been fantastic.
👍👍
It’s funny that Phil Lord and Christopher Miller made Spiderverse and Solo the same year. After they got fired from Lucasfilms, they made Spiderverse and won an Oscar, yea Disney really lost
I liked it... I still believe most people didn't go see it because they were still pissed about The Last Jedi
The only movie that got a remake without ever being completed.
My biggest problems with *Solo* were its connect-the-dots script, and its paint-by-numbers direction.
As such, I’d pay good money to see Lord & Miller’s version, as they apparently also realized that the script was, to be blunt, reeaalllly lame.
Solo suffered from being the film after The Last Jedi, which really sunk the franchise from a fan perspective and from what I remember online, there was also a backlash against the 'woke' (not my words) tone of the film from a certain quarter. Personally, I really enjoyed most of the film and rate it as the second-best modern Star Wars film.
I liked Solo. It wasnt perfect, but it was fun and it did the job. I think if it had come out in 1987 and starring Harrison Ford, people would think of it more fondly
I literally just rewatched solo last night for the first time since it came out lol what a coincidence
I know it’s played out to be the guy who says “I actually like this movie”..But for real it’s pretty good..There’s some bad.Like how Han gets his last name. But there’s good too..I found it to be the most fun of all the Disney SW Movies
I liked it too. Yes it has its faults but its still a decent movie. Its the trendy thing to bash anything you don't agree with these days.
In retrospect, passing on The Flash to make Solo sounds like dodging a bullet.
I feel like the Lord-Miller Solo movie would have been pretty good. Too bad it will never be released.
One big problem with this movie: It was written as if a sequel or two were a given. If this had been a standalone story from the get-go, then you would have seen Jabba, Boba Fett, Greedo, and the like.
The other issue I have is that the story alone is forgettable. If all the Star Wars connections hadn't been there, and if it were just some original sci-fi adventure movie, I don't think many people would be talking about it today.
how about an episode on Parker Lewis Can't lose
I for one did not intensely detest or even dislike Solo. But, yeah, the initial Lord & Miller version might have been a better tale.
All Disney, Lord, Miller, Kennedy, and Howard had to do was READ the Brian Daily Han Solo Trilogy from the very early 80s, which STILL is a better story, and adapt it to the screen and the would be FLUSH with cash.
Star Wars is a shadow of it's former self! It sucks....
The version of Solo that released was so bad, it actually lost money. You know Disney screwed up when a Star Wars film loses money.
This Lord and Miller version couldn't possibly have been any worse.
Disney worried about days going long and having to pay overtime. But ok with reshooting 85% of the entire film….
I love this movie and had a great time on its release. I blame the disappointing box office turn out on Rian Johnson and TLJ. That movie really fractured the fandom.
@The Creator Yeah. I don't think so.
@The Creator You can keep saying that all you want but firing Lord and Miller is not the reason why Star Wars is the way it is now. I doubt much of the fandom is that attached to those directors to decide they were the reason to sit this one out. And when you have Ron Howard and Lord and Miller to choose from, come on man, Ron Howard is the better choice every day of the week. I don't really care about them not completing the movie. I know that TLJ put a bad taste in the mouth of the fandom and Solo had the misfortune of being the follow up. And fans let Disney know how they felt by not supporting it.
I enjoyed it more than any of the sequels.
‘A New Hope’ was NOT released in 1977! It became know as that DECADES later, yes, but the movie released in 1977 was simply called, ‘Star Wars.’
I think that you should take that up with George Lucas. He's the one who changed the name as soon as he was able to.
This Is Is the true hit we Will never see, the studios are afraid of risk.
Grimy color pallet? This dang movie is so friggin dark it’s almost unwatchable on some plasma screens. God dang Barry Lyndon was shot exclusively with candle light in the 1970s & it’s easier to see. In my opinion this production was doomed from the start. Nobody was asking for a new Han Solo without Harrison Ford.
What I wanna know is who was responsible for making it some Imperial army recruiter that gave Han his last name.
To compare Kathleen Kennedy with Kevin Feige...I don't know.
Feige is worse. He only deals with Yes-Men. If he was in charge, L&M wouldn't have even got in the door to pitch.
Lord and Miller seem to have dusted themselves off and moved on, and Emilia Clarke seems to be absolutely invulnerable to flops.
But poor old ALDEN Ehrenreich's career seems to be stuck in the mud ever since.
CORRECTION:
He is in the next Christopher Nolan movie, who he adds to a cv that includes :
Ron Howard,
Warren Beatty,
Francis Ford Coppola
And the Cohen Brothers.
He's doing fine!
Sony should let Phil Lord and Chris Miller in charge of their live-action Marvel movies
They can save it from AVI ARAD, just like they did with SPIDER-VERSE
Lord & Miller are the most creative duo in Hollywood. Disney kicked them out so they could make the blandest Star Wars film ever.
I really enjoyed this movie. Was fun and entertaining
The sequel trilogy was received about as well as Alderans new moon.
If Marc Webb doesn't return for TASM3, then Sony should let Phil Lord and Chris Miller direct and produce it
They can save it from AVI ARAD
Solo and Rogue One were bad ideas to start with so Lucasfilm and Disney were onto a loser from the start. No matter how you present Rogue One, the characters had to fail in their mission or Star Wars would've never have happened so it's a redundant story. Similarly with Solo, it was such a pointless story with way too much fan service. Solo needed to have a story that wasn't an origin story to make it fresh. The biggest issue was it was made 30yrs too late because Harrison Ford is the only person who can play Han. I'm still kinda baffled how poorly Lucasfilm has managed the Star Wars IP since Disney bought it. Nothing seems to be very well thought out...hence the hiring and firing.
Solo was fine, I seen it twice. The Spider-Verse movies are awesome!
The Most Unnecessary movie ever...
Tbh I didn't hate this film. It's a shame they didn't make it on budget.
Never would have thought I would not only skip going to SW films. I wouldn't watch them at all. I haven't seen anything past episode 8. I'm done. I just don't care for Disney SW. I can't see the movies. Only the choices they made on the screen.
Here's a good idea for a future
"WTF Happened to This Unmade Movie?":
The original version of the *"TITANIC 1996"* 2-part TV Miniseries. It was
written by Ross LaManna (the story creator of *"Rush Hour")* with a full runtime of four hours. Francis Ford Coppola and Fred Fuchs *("Dracula 1992"* and *"Frankenstein 1994")*
were also meant to be the Executive Producers.
The problem was...and in many cases continues to be....Kathleen Kennedy. She was given a position of power and she chose to alter the direction of the franchise. Whether you agree with that direction or not, the truth is that "new direction" was NOT monetarily lucrative. Which....is what matters to the investors more.
So...will we ever see their cut of the film? Only if Kathleen allows it and Disney thinks they'll make bank from it. I would do it, just to make some money off it.
Solo is my favourite of the Disney Starwars which is saying something... The only problem I really have with the movie is that the story makes no sense and Woody's sudden heel turn at the end after him telling everyone all the way through that one didn't betray Dryden or else. Combine that with him betraying them at the worse possible time etc. WHat makes things worse is the story could have been great... all they had to do was hint that Woody was after revenge for the loss of his love during the train job and that his betrayal was for her and the movie would be great. I really hope someone can figure out a way to use deep fakes and voice simulation to do a fan edit that fixes these massive plot holes. I just can't believe they let the film go out like that.
I always pretend "Solo" is some guys story he's telling about "Han" in some SpaceBar... Because it's Rubbish.
I bet it would've been better than Ron Howard's. Ugh.
Ron Howard did the best he could. I blame Disney
@@chasehedges6775 *Kathleen Kennedy
The only thing I didn't like in Solo was Landos droid. Terrible. I'd rather Jar Jar was his Co pilot.
Solo needed to be a tv series, not a movie.
The Joke is Solo isn’t even the worst movie in the Star Wars Franchise. It just had the rotten luck of having to follow the most divisive Star Wars movie ever made that caused hardcore fans to Boycott it
@The Creator: it really isn’t, not when you have the likes of Rise of Skywalker, Clone Wars, Last Jedi. Hell, even The Forcs Awakens has aged terribly since it’s release
And Lord and Millar are frankly some of the most overrated directors working today and the way their fanboys hang on everything they make like a gospel are hilarious. Good directors, nothing special.
When people are trying to big up the guys that made Cloudy with a chance of meatballs/Lego Movie and 21 jump street like their Nolan I can’t help but laugh a little. Yeah that’s a great resume haha. Spiderverse was very cool though
I don't think you can call her the Kevin fi.....guy or whatever, he did a great job for ten years, Kennedy was a dumpster fire from the start.
Everything Kennedy touches has issues.
Star wars More popular than it's ever been because it's under Disney...okay
Wait wait how do people know that Han was speaking to Chewbacca with a broken accent what kind of nerd do you have to be to figure that one out
My issue with SOLO is that in A New Hope, Han Solo is a selfish, conceited a**hole who only cares about himself, Chewie and making money. He only redeems himself at the end of the movie. In his origin movie he's too nice and only alludes to what a bad boy he is, (apart from killing Beckett, of course). I can't imagine ever watching it a second time.
My issue with his arc in Solo is the end. If he had gone from being nice to him being a selfish a-hole then you have an arc that fits with where he starts ep IV. instead you have him go from nice to nice by way of nice.
The main reason for Solo's failure wasn't the film itself, it was the backlash against The Last Jedi and the social media campaign at the time against Disney Star Wars that wad at its height.
yeah....also it was a crappy movie.
I think Kathleen Kennedy plays it too safe, Lucasfilm needs new direction overall
WTF Happend to stargate? :(
bad narrator
Zero new here.
Would rather see Colin Trevorrow's Duel of the Fates thanks
@The Creator incorrect!
“A New Hope” wasn’t released in ‘77. The movie you’re referring to was called “Star Wars”. That new hope crap came 20 years later.
Literally NOTHING is a putrid as prequels.
They should've hire Anthony Ingruber in the first place
@thecreator2073 He was a fan favorite cast at the time and he could attract more regular viewers just because of his likeness to young Harrison Ford. That wouldn’t change some other bad decisions, but it would change this movie to be a bit more acceptable to fan base and a bit more curious to others, I dare say. That’s an okay movie. But it could not deliver the feel of it’s titular character. With all respect to Alden Ehrenreich. I also remember that this fabulous duo of directors have mentioned in some interview that they’ve just pick the first actor auditioned. They’ve mentioned this as a joke. I might be wrong, but such kind of carefree playfulness of creative executives ruined sequel trilogy. So… That could have change A LOT.
Lord and Miller are good writers though. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is amazing.
@thecreator2073 Sadly, we’d never see their version of the movie. But I don’t think that their creative vision would save the situation with obvious miscast of the titular character.
As far as I'm concerned anything after the original Star wars sucked
Solo came at a bad time for me. After seeing the Last Jedi, I had no desire to ever see a Star Wars movie in theaters again. And this is coming from one of those crazy fans who camped out to be one of the first to see the movies. The Last Jedi broke my fandom. Plus, Solo didn't look that good. The main character, well, to put it nicely, he's no Harrison Ford. I didn't like them trying to cram all of Solo's backstory into 1 movie. "Hey kids! 'member the Kessel Run? 'Member Chewbacca? 'Member Darth Maul?" It was hokey fan service that was more like a cheesy fan film than an actual movie.
It was a mildly entertaining movie but we don't watch movies just to be mildly entertained. The problems were in the script and the lead. It doesn't deserve the flop, but it doesn't deserve any big praise either. It was just "meh".
I really enjoyed this movie! Don't know why it gets so much grief. A solid sci-fi heist and comedic romp. Sure, nowhere near the quality of Andor. But lightyears beyond The Last Jedi- a film so bad, it actually made me embarrassed to be a Star Wars fan.
@The Creator Is there a way to view the Lord & Miller cut? Haven't seen it.
I would have preferred this one as a D+ mini-series with a brighter color palette. Some of the early scenes are just ugly
Basically they tried to pull an end around on Kathleen Kennedy. She hired them to make one movie, they turned around and went to make another movie, either way this movie was never going to work. Seeing the finished movie, they probably would have been better off going with Lord and Millers take, but I don’t know if there’s a way around the fact that Alden Ehrenreich cannot act. Hell they even had to bring and acting teacher onto the set of Solo because he was having trouble delivering his lines.
Here’s the thing….It was a Pretty Good movie…I really enjoyed it
What happened? Poor casting to start.
@The Creator I'm not blaming him as The Reason.
I don't think he or Donald glover were good casting and the script needed help.
Replacing Harrison Ford's nuance and charisma is a huge challenge that next to no one can really do.
Largely well received???? In what world do you live in? These movies are trash and most people hate them to the death. Specially SW fans
@thecreator2073 last jedi is worse.
WTF happened ? Kathleen Kennedy happened
Sooooo 9min lost to learn nothing. Got it
What was this nonsense, who are you, & what did you do with the JoBlo’s? 🤔
Solo like everything else disney, disrespected the lore and cannon of Lucas starwars. Starwars is a dead horse and disney is trying to forget the smell...
Not to start anything, but I find it ironic that you mention the "cannon of Lucas", when he was clearly making everything up as he went along. Darth Vader didn't become Luke's father until the second film, and Luke & Leia weren't siblings until the third. He shoved R2-D2 into the prequels with a fairly major role, but Kenobi doesn't recognize him in the '77 film? Chewie fights side-by-side with Yoda during the Clone Wars, but is as dismissive about the Force as Han is in "A New Hope"? Lucas didn't care about continuity, why should anyone else?
@@THE_bchat if you didn't want to start something then why even comment...
So I will indulge your But... the difference is Lucas is the origanal creator so what he does even with the flaws become cannon, he can make changes and has gotten flak for it. Disney didn't make small changes to cannon they shat all over it that's the difference. Oh and Disney's plan was just as incomplete as George's was with the origanal trilogy...
Kathleen Kennedy is what happened to this movie!
Lord and Miller are.
