Live gigs will always be worth playing only if it's just for the fun of it. I used to play in an Irish folkband so we used to play a lot of renaissance fairs. The moment we asked for a wall of death during our Alestorm cover and seeing all those people all dressed up slamming into each other was just awesome.
TP here in PA is getting serious. $23 for an 8 roll pack at Rite Aid and all the other stores around (6 or 7 of them) are all sold out. If it's similar in your state, someone probably robbed him for it lol
As somebody who played constantly in my 20's, then didn't play for many years. Got back into playing live in bands in my late 40's and now halfway into my 50's, … there is NOTHING better than a positive reaction from a live audience. It's amazing.
'I want my band to sound like this'. Yeah. I remember way back in the 80s, a band came in and the drummer asked, 'Can you make me sound like Phil Collins?' I can't remember what I said, but I remember thinking, 'Can you PLAY like Phil Collins? It turned out the answer was no. No he couldn't play like PC, and no, there was nothing I could do to fix that.
Ohhhh man. Had this debate with someone not too long ago. Where he asked what it would take to sound like my guitar playing. I then went on that he won't. Even if her ran stereo like me, had all my pedals, amps, cabinets and everything was set to the exact same levels... He still won't sound like me. Seeing the chance for an argument, he jumped on it, as to why, "Because you play a Les Paul?" Well, yes, but even if he grabbed a Les Paul which looked like one of mine, it still wouldn't work, due to a number of fun little "rabbit hole" tricks I've done along the way. Where I use medical grade power cables for my amps and pedalboard, then cryogenically treated cables for all the pedals and speakers. In the Amp, there are upgraded valves, additionally, the pins of the valves have been treated with a silver solution for conductivity and said valves also have polyurethane dampeners on them. Then, on the guitars themselves, the "gold" on the one is all brass and the "nickel" looking hardware on the other two are all titanium. Where my pickups on all of them are custom made and drilled into a brass bar bracket holding them firmly to the wood of the guitar, not by the mounting rings. Then, on the inside, all the electronics have been upgraded, like the selector switch, 500k pots, orange drop capacitors, a four directional input jack and ground wires connecting everything... With aerospace grade conductive shielding paint on the inside of all the cavities. In addition to metal (Brass/titanium respectively) back plates... As I heard somewhere that those helped like the paint (They actually kind of do... Subtle, but nevertheless). "OK, so if I do allllll of that..." leaving me like "You're not going to do all of that. It's too expensive, too gimmicky and too well researched, there's a reason it took me about a decade to get to this point." However, I then went on that if he did, it still wouldn't work the way he thinks it will. The example I used was that I could jump onstage at a Guns 'N Roses concert, pickup Slash's guitar, right there off the stage, with his entire setup hooked to it and belt out every note of November Rain perfectly... And I still won't sound like him. Because I'm NOT Slash. I don't play like Slash, so I won't sound like him, no matter how much I tried. "So, knowing a pointless endeavor when I see it, I decided to sound like whatever I wanted to. Call it mine. You should do the same."
NEVER stop taping quarters to the kick if thats the sound you like! I like the danmar thing, but sometimes when you live on an island where they fight against science, its hard to order things like that and all you got is a quarter
Troy Hulber...don't waste your breath man, only a metal head can understand. Some people listen to classical to find their happy place. Some listen to pop. Those make me feel tense, literally, after a time. If I'm feeling tense or angry, I break out some great metal. Within a couple songs I feel the tension melt away, and my mood improve greatly. Plus, the mental health benefits of a little head banging are real and quantifiable!
Clinical study shows that even if you listen to negative or agressive music while feeling depressed or angry releases chemicals in the brain that help you feel relaxed. So yeah metal or even country or other emotional music helps alot of people.
Some local shows ive played has been literally just bands playing for the other performing bands. No one else in the crowd other than girlfriends and wives. Lol. And honestly theyre some of the funnest shows ive played.
I remember living in Vegas, where there was this venue called... I don't know, something "Saloon" or such, there on Fremont Street, toward the "Experience" from LVBD. There on the left. Anyhow, I went there because it was my friend's birthday and she was a huge fan of the group playing. No joke, there was like 12 people in the audience. So they put on a show like the place was packed. Then the show ended. Due to it ending, the place was closing down. Along the wall to the left, there was a door to the parking garage, where the lead singer was like "Give us like 20 minutes!" Due to having only enough time to do half their catalog, they actually did a whole other "concert" of the rest of their songs, for us dozen people, there in the parking lot next to their vans. It's funny because the cops were called and everything. Even though due to the place being closed, the parking lot was empty, save for the band's vans. Admittedly, that was pretty trippy. I don't recall the name of the band, but they were a Punk one. I'm not a Punk fan, per se and it it was somewhat awkward being one of a serious twelve people in a venue which could hold... I don't know 750 to 1000, once out in the garage, it was actually rather cool.
I left my band about 5 years ago due to health problems but we would play a "show" every weekend or every other weekend and what we had was, as you say, just bands and no one else. Those were the worst and saddest gigs I did in my life. Never again. I don't know if it is due to me living in a different country now and just not understanding the mentality of people around or is it that the times had changed. I remember when I was teenager back home, we would play a gig once a week and the place would be packed full, or at least had 50-60 people that are not related to the bands no matter what the line up was.
Glenn, is it possible to get a sub kick sound with only having a normal kick mic? My idea is duplicating the original kick track but dumping all high end ( like 1k or 2k and higher), boosting low end, and then blending with the original kick.
I’m an aspiring metal musician and my dad suggested that I’d sell out and play music I don’t like for a while in order to make some money and then play what I want. I said hell no.
Yeah, dont ever do that, you only have one life (if even that), you need to do the things that you want to do. The same goes for ordinary work, far to many hate their work and still spend most of their life there, try and find something you like to work with and your life will be so much better.
What is the largest track count project that you've worked on? Lately I've been falling in love with big production wall of sound style records (Chinese democracy/Radiohead/Ammeranthe/ Linkin Park's reanimation ) Lots of overdubed/ larded parts and editing thats used as almost a musical instrument and large count vocal tracks. What are some records you would recommend checking out to get into that style of production and what are some things i could watch to learn? Also ps totally just got an assistant engineer Job at a studio my buddies wanting to build, my job would basically be to record bands and write jingles for commercials. Much love from Alabama!
Glen, you mentioned the closet bass traps, what do you think about a closet iso booth for a speaker cab? I'm talking a small walk-in size. The plan is to do the room within a room thing and cover the whole inside with acoustic fiberglass board (like 703). Waste of time? I like micing a real cab and running my Marshalls loud.
Would you recommend using a cabinet isolation box for recording in rooms with no sound treatment. I've considered building my own box and lining it with sound cancelling material to stop microphone hiss from late/early reflections. If so what sound cancelling material would you recommend?
Started recording at a studio that uses analog tape. I love the authentic classic sound but I’ve realized recording vocals is extremely tough. Obviously there’s no auto tune, no complaints there, but there are no real effects you can add other than your standard reverb, delay, reverse reverb, Etc. Everything is recorded pretty raw and I just wanted to know what your advice would be for making vocals fill out more. Double the vocal lines or harmonies?
Wow a million views a month?? You deserve it, your show is great! This one of the only channels I watch the video all the way through every week! I wonder what it's like to have that size of a channel? Do you just spend all day answering comments?? Not sure I'd want that size of following, like I'd ever get it! Ha!
I tried for Orange (I'm a bassist). They responded like this... As a player we'd have you in a second, but you don't have a big enough footprint. When you increase your footprint on social media, please reach out to us again.
I would like to see a comparison of pros and cons for running all your gear in the rack mounted format vs all pedals . A lot of companies make the same piece of equipment in a rack console or effect pedal chassis: such as noise gates, power attenuators, effects proccecors, other gear used for studio or live playing. Which is better? Rack or pedal? Besides the obvious size difference
Now that is something I struggle with almost every day. On the one hand I love the tones from all the people using the darkglass + dingwall stuff, on the other I do not want to loose my individual sound...
Hey Glenn , any opinions about the whole Coronafest ? and would you have any tips on mixing virtual drums ? i m using FXPANSION BFD... any tips ? it never comes out so good :(
Some of the biggest thrills in my life were gigging large venues and huge outdoor shows when we had a couple of top 40 songs on the air in 1989 / 1990 (they're not metal or anything close to that, so don't bother looking them up :-) ...). The feeling you get when people are not only digging your songs, but singing along to them, is incredible. You should continue to, or look to play live gigs, if for no other reason that to hopefully experience that someday.
Glenn: My band went to the studio a couple of weeks ago, and recorded our first single. After the drummer did his take, the audio engineer started to quantize drums. Our drummer, who while being a very good musician, forgot his sticks and a tuning key🙄 didn’t notice what was going on, and once I told him, and said to go stop him if he wanted, he chickened out. When we were leaving, the audio engineer also said he was going to pitch correct the vocals, though wouldn’t have to much since the singer was on pitch. When we started to object, the audio engineer explained that it was “studio policy.” 1st, how do you deal with an audio engineer who claims that editing is studio policy, when you’ve already done the recording and have to pay? 2nd, does the drummer have a right to be upset if he thinks the drums lack soul since he didn’t say anything? The song still sounds really good, the drums don’t really sound too produced, and the singing sounds the same as it did before it was edited. It does sound a bit poppy though, which is ok, since we’re a pop punk band with one guitar, and metal/jazz influences for our rhythm section, where I (the bassist, who knows the most theory, having played jazz for a while, and actually practice), play more of a lead guitar with pocket style on bass
the engineer is trying to help. ask him to print a copy without those two changes (pretty easy but throw him a few bucks) just for your own interest, and play them for others blind and ask if they notice or what they prefer. don't get too hung up on it.
What are some amplifiers that you would recommend for their reliability? I can run models for the pre-amp if the tone isn't to my liking but I need something to drive the speakers (Orange PPC412A), whether that be a standalone power-amp or a standard head with a loop. I have 2 tube amps (Carvin Legacy and Bugera Trirec) and they are both PCB everything, and they keep crapping out as soon as they get fixed. They cost a lot to fix because of the boards. I'm half tempted to get a JCM 900. Thoughts on the JCM, and do you have any other reasonably priced recommendations?
Funny, MY singer insists on playing a gig tomorrow even though no one will come out during the pandemic scare; I hope I don’t catch anything! 🙏🏼 you’re right Glenn fire the noob singer with stage fright..
Dear Mr.Fricker. Greetings from Argentina. Marcelo here, huge fan of your guides and videos. I just got an AT2035 + Behringer UM2 for recording vocals (mostly practicing with backing tracks). For big part of my life I used my trusty Beta58, but I never got an usb interface. Would you upgrade to a Focusrite or the UM2 would fit me needs for now? Compressors: I would describe my voice like a 80's metal Air Supply. Any all-around cheap/free compressor that you think it would work for me? I am using LevelingTool VST and Molot for now. Regarding your issue with headphones: Have you trye'd Yamaha's? I have HPH-MT5 and I am quite happy with em. Great for 100usd studio headphones.
I owe you a big thanks. Seriously. The regular content of your channel is highly informative and very entertaining. Here is the shocker. You have been the catalyst for a change in my life. Sounds a little smarmy I know but true. I’m losing weight and keeping it off. Fairly easily, doing what you have done. Your “If I can do you can do it” approach kicked everything off. Keep doing what you are doing. Thanks.
Hey, Glenn! What's your opinion on keyboards? I don't recall seeing any keys on your videos, but I've not seen them all so I might have just missed them. I'm a pretty good keyboard player, and even though I do play guitar, I'm nowhere near stage level on it whereas I've played keys in a band long ago. Thanks, and FU from GA.
I wonder if some death metal musicians who's bass players have disappeared have considered that there's a certain percentage of bass players that go full Chick Corea and never contact them again.
@@AnthonySforza Chick Corea is this jazz artist that influenced a lot of death metal or heavy artists in one way or another like Death, Beyond Creation, Obscura, Cynic....
Hello Glenn, On my ad feed on facebook I got a lot of the Soundbrenner ads, concerning the metronome watch. They communicate a lot about it, but honestly, for having it on my arm, for drums or guitar or bass... Even on max force, I don't get it right. Plus, I sensed that it did not keep the rythm. Do you think of trying it on your Fearless Gear Review ? Cheers from(age) France !
Man, I still remember my first gig (and I was the vocalist there) - it was supposed to be a gig for just "some friends" and turned out to be a gig for over 200 people. I wasn't "scared" but when I saw all the people at the stage I was just thinking "dude, just don't fuck this up...". After few first songs we were rocking the place. Man, it was one of the greatest parties in my life :) On the other hand, a friend of mine (he was playing the guitar at the time) was so "scared" he got some pills to keep calm so later on while the rest of us were drinking beer watching other bands play he could drink just water or juice :P
About the live gigs, recently, I played my first live show with the band I recently got in. There were 10-15 people there. But just playing up there, interacting with the public, and seeing everyone enjoying what you’re doing, it’s just fucking amazing.
You kind of make me sit back and think about my band situation, I usually play shows that have between 200 - 500 people and I have not really be happy with the direction the band is taking but I guess I should voice my opinion and make the best out of it and just enjoy the fact that people want to come see me and my band play.
I literally played gigs where there have been more people on stage (5 piece band) than in the audience. Mostly because of lacking of advertising the gig. No newspaper ad, no poster, nothing. We played those gigs and had a blast anyway.
Aaron Patey I really don’t have much experience with the stage, so I’ll give you the advice the guys from my band gave me(it’s a quite big band, and they have a lot of experience with the stage). Don’t be afraid to move on stage, and don’t be afraid to make mistakes. You can be playing perfectly, but if you’re just standing in place, the audience won’t really enjoy it, and neither will you. Move A LOT on stage, look at the audience, make faces, interact with people. That’s what I did, and it worked with me. Best of luck to you man!
Thanks for looking at my question about Traynors- I've always felt they were great but never see people using them- thought maybe my ears were crap. ;-)
To Glenn or anyone willing to help. I have purchased some recording gear as well as some studio monitors recently. I want to record bass and guitar and vocal at home and then go into the studio for the drums. The problem I'm having is I can't get a decent sound at all micing things up. I am very hard of hearing so when I dial in a sound that I like everyone tells me it hurts their ears and is very tinny. Is there a way to record direct and then a producer can get a tone later? Is that what reamping is? I'm so confused and this new world of recording is daunting. Sorry for the ramble and any help would be greatly appreciated.
1:21 that's honestly not only a slap in the face to the band, but SJC as well. I've been on their factory tours, and the guys were nothing but chill and honest. It's pretty fuckin horrendous to buy a brand's gear just to exploit them for an endorsement, and if you are going to do that then *YOU* should be the one paying for it. Not your band, *YOU*
Hey Glenn, I’ve been doing Nail the Mix for 2 months now (and bought a couple of the past ones), and I’ve been trying my best to avoid using the samples at any cost. However, some of these seem to have been made for sample replacement. Some of these high quality finished products are almost impossible to get a usable drum sound without samples. Do you think as a mixer, when you have no control over the recording process, that you sometimes have to use samples? Like the Lamb of God mix as well as the At the Gates can stand by itself without samples, but the Knocked Loose and Suicide Silence mixes lack any strength without them. I love the channel so much, as someone who started by just watching the stupid musician texts videos without knowing or intending to know anything about mixing, you made me want to pursue a career in sound rather than trying to make it as a musician (the place I’m going in Arizona after high school also gets you certified for film sound, so I think I’ll do alright), so thank you much
Regarding online instant mastering services, I haven't used Landr, but I have been using CloudBounce, and here's my take: I wouldn't trust it for any kind of real tone shaping, it's limited at best simply due to the nature of the service, but I have found it useful for final loudness mastering (one of my weaknesses!). You just have to make sure that you've got your "pre-master" track sounding "mastered" aside from not being at a level consistent with similar styles of published music or with other tracks in the package if you're publishing an album or EP.
Cheers Glenn! That record means the same to me, nothing really came close, even their own stuff! cool I got my dogs face on your show too! nice one mate 👊
regarding the speaker breaking-in question. i read that EVH would leave it on full feeding back, then go out for a bite to eat, then come and they be “there”. not really good for the rest of us, but worth a shot for your test
THE SHOW MUST GO ON!!! Don't cancel just because 1 person flakes out. Play anyway. Sing the parts yourself. Do whatever you have to do. Personally, I would play by myself if I had to and I think the singer wasn't the only one who chickened out.
Hey Glenn! So I’ve got a question I’m sure lots of guys can relate too. I just moved to a brand new city and I’m having a tough time getting a band together! I jammed with a few bands and although they were into me and seemed like nice guys, all due respect I just wasn’t personally too into their material. What are some good tips on finding new bandmates when you’re the new musician in town?
Hey Glen Im studdying Audio production and i need to do an internship to compleate my studdys . Im from live audio land mostly but i want to get into the sutdio again. Any tips what should i expect ?
I know it's probably in the pipeline, but could you do a video on mixing free drum VSTs like MT Power DrumKit? I'm trying to use it to write, but it sounds so thin and small that my head just keeps saying "That's not the sound"
Dude i agree with you so much about "sounding like yourself" the world would be a better place if everyone started to pursue it's own identity and finding their own sound. Cheers!
Hey Glenn, Im a novice at doing D.I recording, I am using a Lexicon Interface with Mixcraft 6 and using a combination of plug in software. Do you have any tips to get a more professional sounding mix without spending a ton more dollars? Thanks in advance.
In response to the guy who said his parents suggested he stop playing metal and go with more pop stuff. Glenn you answered that question without knowing one very very crucial part of the issue - instead of saying his parents are wrong, the kid should play what he likes. We need to find out if the kid is telling his parents that; he wants to be a hugely successful artist, that he wants to make a shit load of money with his music That he wants his music to be played on radio stations all over the world. If a musician is indeed wanting this type of a career, well then I guess they should join with the pop or country or rap world because right now those are the only ones that all 3 of the things the kid "wants" can happen. It's like a lot of these biker bar bands, the lyrics in their music and/or the very name of the band is stopping them from being more successful. I saw an interview with the lead singer/rhythm guitarist/founding member of a biker bar type of band and he was saying that when he was a kid he wanted to be the next "big thing" but as he got older and out of his teens he decided that wasn't for him and he just wanted to make the kind of music he does and let the chips fall where they may. The music they make is "OK", some songs are certainly to risque for public radio play lol but it was the name of the band that no matter how good a song is, they will not get any air play or booked in any usual venues for bigger bands. The band's name is "Nashville Pussy" and their album titles and song titles play on that name in many variations lol. Overall, they are an average band, he is the lead singer and i think they should consider getting someone else lol. They sort of have an AC/DC type of a sound and his wife who is the lead guitarist is indeed a great guitarist, but like I said about the kid who sent you that question - they had to decide if they wanted to make "their" music or stuff that could be played in public and on public radio and such places. They chose to go with making their own music and damn the consequences.
I remember seeing Prong play a tiny place several years ago here in St. Louis and there were maybe 50 people there (it was on a Tuesday or something like that but still...) and they were great. Super awesome energy playing like they were in front of 1000 people. A mindset I have always had is play like you mean it no matter how many or few people are there. Hell, one band I was in literally played for the bartender and a guy sweeping the floor but I still hit it.
As for performing, because of various situations in my life, when I do get to play live I'm busking. I do enjoy it, and I often do it in the New York City Subways. And the crazy thing is as a solo artist I make more money busking than I do playing in coffee shops. I imagine most metal players don't go busking though.
the JST comment is funny, those are often very monotone and kinda making it obvious they are only trying hard to sell you something. it doesn't mean the product are bad but not really reaching someone in a intimate way. I find your videos have a actual examples something those videos actually have very little. I have noticed there is some more seemingly sponsored content but the fact that you have a bunch of examples allows us to make our own decision. people have to eat so keep at it man great stuff.
Glenn, I'm looking at getting some new monitors. Pretty much looking at the kali's, the rokit 7 g4, or the iloud minis. Smaller bedroom kinda in the corner so not the most ideal. What would you suggest. I know you usually recommend the kali's but some reviews say the hiss is rediculous. Thanks man. PS the cheap Rockville amp monitors are total garbage. If anyone sees this, don't get them. I had to send them back. Got a new set there was chips out of the wood on the second set. I said screw it cause at least they worked but now a few months later the right speaker is blown to shit and I've never turned them up anywhere near halfway. Emailed them and they won't send me a new one cause the warranty is up.
Also, live music is an obsession of mine. Hell just last year I think I hit somewhere around 30 or 35 shows of all genres (from punk to metal to ska to bluegrass and they were all fantastic...big shows and small indie shows just love it).
3:30 ya you're right. In the last week I've watched a live version of Hiroshima Mon Amour by Alcatrazz about 100 times. Yngwie Malmsteen was such a badass dude and showman back then, it was amazing. He uses the monitor and cabs to rake slide the strings, and just has this overall bad ass persona on stage. This attidue is missing from live shows these days.
I have something I want to hear from a producer himself. What language should I use to describe what my vision for the mix sounds like when I'm taking to the engineer?
When I first got my EVH cabinet brand new the speakers sounded a little bright to me. Still sounded great, but a little stiff and bright. Fast forward a few months and I swear the speakers sound a bit warmer with a bit more growl to them. Did they get broken in overtime and caused this? I don’t know. Maybe, maybe not. But they do sound a bit different to me. Maybe it’s just because I’ve gotten used to the tone of the cabinet. Confirmation bias perhaps?
God- that one comment reminded me of a show I went to years ago. Forget the tour name, but it was Joe Diffie, Mark Chesnut; and another guy. Downtown War Memorial Arena 7500 seats- and maybe 500 people... It was a fantastic show, all 3 artists did full sets, then came out together, sat on the edge of the stage, and traded first verses and choruses of other hit songs not on their set lists, along with a story or two to go with. They all busted each others balls all night, too. I felt bad for them. These guys were nailing it, and nobody bothered to show up. Those of us that did were treated to a great concert, and fun time.
Id recommend at least looking into Ceriatone. Incredible, incredible company. I have their OTS20 and on its own, does some of the best clean/crunch Ive heard. As a pedal platform, it absolutely smashes high gain modern metal too. $725+whatever shipping rates are at that moment. Only amp thats piqued my interest is the revv g20. I still might end up getting a g20 used, but I cant say I feel much more than curiosity. The harley benton 2x12 vintage cabs (with V30's) are great deals too, and its easy enough to convert/mod it for open back if really wanted.
If you can find and afford one get a Mesa Mark IV head. They can do anything in the rock and metal spectrum. As far as cabs go there's no real specific cab to get. They're all pretty similar. Just make sure it's well built and you'll be fine. Get a 4×12 or 2×12
I know Mark, last time I saw him play was in Kingsville... He played in the band Helix. Hope I spelled it right. HE IS A GREAT MUSICIAN AND A GREAT GUY! Anyway say hello for me. Thanks Glenn... YOU ROCK!
Please do a breaking-in test with a cab, with a before and after sound clip as well as an IR. Why an IR you may ask. Well those two IRs can be subtracted from one another so see which frequencies have actually changed by the breaking in process. Looking at Guitars/Basses my experience is that there is a noticeable difference in broken in instruments compared to factory new. So why should this not occur with speakers as well. Looking forward to the results and Leck mich Glenn.

"Metal is anger" Haha, I'm 44 and my wife asks me how I listen to Emmure etc, without getting mad🤘I feel it's a way to get the anger out!
I always find that question bizarre. When I hear folk music I become as violent as John Belushi in animal house!
@@nicolasortiz5534 Can you cite any of them? Please don't use "studies show" if you can't point to any in specific.
@@MechMK1 I understand that misinformation can be detrimental lol can't remember the name. I'm sure ppl could find it if they want.
Either Glenn got new lenses for his camera or he stuck to his diet really well.
Congrats either way mate!
Its definitely the lenses
@enlightendbel why not both?
The bass player got new strings, yeah.
If "new strings" is his new code word for weed.
i dont buy new strings i just buy new basses ;)
damit yall calling me out
Some local shows ive played has been literally just bands playing for the other performing bands.
Of course I know where my bass player is. He's me!
But do you know where you are?
Me too haha. Cheers.
I was wondering how to have a bass player as I am my bass player, drummer, guitarist, synth player, vocalist and mixing/mastering engineer etc.
YOU'VE BEEN AT GUITAR CENTER FOR 3 DAYS!!!
@@henrydouberly3950 BE GONE ZUCC!
Glenn, is it possible to get a sub kick sound with only having a normal kick mic? My idea is duplicating the original kick track but dumping all high end ( like 1k or 2k and higher), boosting low end, and then blending with the original kick.
Bass player decides to go buy strings and catches a COVID-19 infection.
Yeah, get a day job if you have to, but don't let your ART suffer because someone told you to. Good art is never a compromise.
That's how most people end up playing stuff they hate cuz it blows up and gets very popular 😂
@@Metaldad87 Yeah, what could be even worse is getting famous for a cover version of a popular song and people hardly knowing about your own songs.
0:36 - My favorite part. Thank for the vid! Even if I don't need to know anything about what your sharing, you're entertaining as heck!
Hey Glenn, where would you recommend starting to hybridize an electronic drumkit? Hi-hats? Cymbals? Cheers!
Ha!
If the bass player hasn't been seen in more than 7 days. Then he probably got hit by a bus trying to buy weed
Great advice on endorsements, Glenn! It's hard enough for established artists to get endorsed, let alone newcomers!
Always love your shows bro! Your an inspiration. Keep up the good work!
Glenn as twisted as you are I will check back. Hope your ok. Do not go CoV-19 on us.
Love the channel! Can you talk about panning instruments in 5.1 or 7.1 pros and cons?
Glenn! You've lost a LOT of weight!
Well done my man !!
Finally got to make an SMG premiere. I am going to do a metal cover of that premiere music and see if I can fix it. haha 🤘🔥
Funny, MY singer insists on playing a gig tomorrow even though no one will come out during the pandemic scare; I hope I don’t catch anything! 🙏🏼 you’re right Glenn fire the noob singer with stage fright..
Yes, fire the singer.
There won't be much competition, take advantage of that ;)
You won't catch anything...until the after gig party in the band house.
It's probably more Corona fright than stage fright, but that's just how I took it
Dear Mr.Fricker.
Thanks.
You're looking good Glenn. Keep up everything you do.
Chick Corea?
@@AnthonySforza Chick Corea is this jazz artist that influenced a lot of death metal or heavy artists in one way or another like Death, Beyond Creation, Obscura, Cynic....
Awesome shirt, where did you get that one from?
Hello Glenn,
On my ad feed on facebook I got a lot of the Soundbrenner ads, concerning the metronome watch.
Man, it was one of the greatest parties in my life :)
On the other hand, a friend of mine (he was playing the guitar at the time) was so "scared" he got some pills to keep calm so later on while the rest of us were drinking beer watching other bands play he could drink just water or juice :P
Ive noticed a diffrence in bass response with studio monitors breaking them in at low volume
DUDE...i need that shirt...where did you get it?
Ever tried out one of the older marshall dsl100s? Better know as the jcm2000?
I work with SJC and I'm an unknown drummer but they have posted about my band and helped us out with alot of things so it's not entirely impossible.
But I also bought my own drums bc I dont take my bandmates money👀👀
Cheers Glenn! That record means the same to me, nothing really came close, even their own stuff! cool I got my dogs face on your show too! nice one mate
👊
I've messaged John Custer about helping us find out how....
regarding the speaker breaking-in question. i read that EVH would leave it on full feeding back, then go out for a bite to eat, then come and they be “there”. not really good for the rest of us, but worth a shot for your test
A guy at Guitar Works told me that a kick drum mic would be good for low instruments like tubas and bari saxes. Is this true?
Hey Glen Im studdying Audio production and i need to do an internship to compleate my studdys . Im from live audio land mostly but i want to get into the sutdio again. Any tips what should i expect ?
Our band will have its first show in less than a week. I hope to God it isn’t canceled.
It will be cancelled.
You should cancel it for your own and other people’s health even tho it sucks
Felken my band was going to play Sunday in Boston.
I canceled the show.
Cheers!
Where can I find that Jedi Priest shirt?????
Thanks again Glenn for all the vidz! \m/
Hey Glenn, Im a novice at doing D.I recording, I am using a Lexicon Interface with Mixcraft 6 and using a combination of plug in software. Do you have any tips to get a more professional sounding mix without spending a ton more dollars? Thanks in advance.
In response to the guy who said his parents suggested he stop playing metal and go with more pop stuff. Glenn you answered that question without knowing one very very crucial part of the issue - instead of saying his parents are wrong, the kid should play what he likes. We need to find out if the kid is telling his parents that;
he wants to be a hugely successful artist,
that he wants to make a shit load of money with his music
That he wants his music to be played on radio stations all over the world.
Glenn! Please do a video about re-amping snare drums. I don’t want to use samples but this seems like an interesting way to compromise.
how was I not subscribed, watched this dudes stuff for years.
Haven't heard Dance Of The Dead in a long time. Used to love it when they would play the video on Headbanger's Ball.
Also, live music is an obsession of mine. Hell just last year I think I hit somewhere around 30 or 35 shows of all genres (from punk to metal to ska to bluegrass and they were all fantastic...big shows and small indie shows just love it).
Hi Glenn , what is a good sub kick mic ?
3:30 ya you're right. In the last week I've watched a live version of Hiroshima Mon Amour by Alcatrazz about 100 times. Yngwie Malmsteen was such a badass dude and showman back then, it was amazing. He uses the monitor and cabs to rake slide the strings, and just has this overall bad ass persona on stage. This attidue is missing from live shows these days.
What do you think about Fishman pick ups?
Bass player was sent out looking for tp and hand sanitizer last Friday and still hasn't returned.
Wow, haven’t watched in a while. Super stoked with the weight loss. Keep it going!!!
Hey Glen, what's your opinion about Ross Robinson? He's production philosophy is to get the most visceral sound as possible.
Hey glenn any opiniin on kings x?
Hey Glenn, I'm planning to graduate from combo amps into guitar tube amps. Which is a great app head and cab for versatility?
Get a 4×12 or 2×12
I had an old 100w Traynor for years! I was playing in a thrash metal band at the time, it sounded great being pushed by a boss super overdrive pedal!
Glenn, when is your next mix review? I've gotten the best live drum mix for our new EP I've ever achieved. 11 mics used!
You’re not a looser. You have grit. The key component to success.
In reference to your last question, Glen. Are you saying that you don't use reference tracks etc?
I know Mark, last time I saw him play was in Kingsville... He played in the band Helix. Hope I spelled it right. HE IS A GREAT MUSICIAN AND A GREAT GUY! Anyway say hello for me. Thanks Glenn... YOU ROCK!
What is up with your latest video? It's not playing, says private...
